Alpine Golf Resort 11 June 2013
The first annual challenge for The Challenge Cup took place yesterday at Alpine Golf Course and was a huge success. Each Society fielded 20 players on a rainy day. Despite the objection to playing in the rain by some players (including myself) the game went ahead and I must admit that the very cool and wet weather conditions were a pleasure to play in. It seemed that everyone had fun and enjoyed the challenge. Sherman and myself were there to check results as they came in and it was so close that the winner of the Challenge Cup was not known until the last group submitted their cards. With 18 games completed, CMSG had won 9, SSSG had won 8 and one game had been halved! We waited with anticipation for the final 2 games to finish. So with the score standing at 9.5 to 8.5 in favour to CMSG, we waited…………..the final 2 matches completed, both won by SSSG. The final result was therefore 10.5, 9.5 in favour of SSSG. I would like to thank all CMSG who participated in this event, you all were exceptional and are to be congratulated for fighting so hard and achieving such a close result on the home course of SSSG. This was an incredible outcome. Well done to everyone and special thanks to you all for supporting your Society.
All players met at the ThaiSwiss restaurant for food, drinks and the presentation.
CMSG provided prizes to all nearest the pin winners on the day and players collecting these prizes were: Ron Hill, Don Bishop and Yung Beece who collected two prizes. Congratulations to you all.
It is hoped that after the success of this event, that it will become an annual event. Next year we hope to hold the challenge at Mae Jo Golf Course with an early tee time.
