Lanna, 30.06.14

After a little a little early morning rain, fifteen CMSG’s and one guest went out on a very nice Lanna golf course. even after the rain the course was in great shape. It might have been a little wet in some areas but no standing water anywhere. John Barrett and Lennart Larsson both tied for third with 34 points each but Lennart took it on count back.  Second went to Julian Wing with 36 points. Gary Walker was up to his usual good game and took first place with 37 points. Congratulation to the winners.

Next Monday we’ll be playing our  usual stroke competition on the 3 & 1 courses at Lanna. So come on out and test your golf stills.

Mae Jo, 27.06.14

This Friday we had (21) members testing their golf skills at Maejo.  Today the course had li, Julianttle play and we were allowed to tee off from both the #1 and #10 tee box under overcast skies.  As the round progressed the sun came out at times making it extremely hot coupled with high humidity.  Today most groups completed their respective round in a little over (4) hours. The competition today was a Stableford Nassau which resulted in some high scores.   Taking 1st  place honors today was Calvin Davis posting a score of (37) points.  The front nine was won by Ted Taylor with (21) points and the back nine being shared by Dizzy Reeve and Keith Taylor both scoring (21) points also.  It should be noted that we had a 5-way tie for overall standing of (36) points each.  Keith Taylor’s back nine score was impressive as he had to pick up on the #13 (par 5) hole due to losing (2) balls (2-golf balls that is).  The reason for his (21) points was that Keith also had (2) birdies on the back nine.  Hat off to all of today’s winners!   ???????????????????????????????

Dizzy, Calvin, Keith, Ted

Also we wish Calvin Davis a safe trip back to work and we look forward to playing with him again in August.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday where the competition will be Stableford.   Tee off at 8:00 AM

Twenty seven plus one guest (Jack) who is now a new member of the CMSG’s came to play golf and say good bye to Sr. David Urlwin, our longtime friend and golfer. Most of the time David play’s very good golf but Monday wasn’t his day and I think we all can relate to those kind of days. The weather was nice and warm with a little breeze to make it even nicer. The scoring was on the warmer side too, with Terry Redding just edging out Lester and Joy by one point with a high of 24 points to take the front nine. Smiley (Peter Haddon) was smiling after taking the back nine with a high of 20 points. We do have to say that Gary Walker had a higher score of  24 on the back nine but had to settle for the overall high score of the day with a total of 43 points edging out Terry by one point. Congratulations to all our winners and to those who came so close to winning too. Next Monday competition at Lanna will be Stableford competition once more. So come on out and join in on the fun

Mae Jo, 20.06.14

Another great turn out as we had (26) members and (2) guests teeing off for another Friday round of golf at Maejo. The start of the round could be classified as organized pandemonium as number score cards were submitted with no names entered. Regardless we re-grouped and teed off on time. Also, all our (7) foursomes had to tee off from #1 tee box due to a large group of golfers having reserved a 10:00 am tee off time. Relative to the weather the front nine was on the hot side but the back nine was played under cloudy skies and cool breezes making our 4-1/2 hour round more bearable. Today the format was Stableford Nassau and the winners were: Stuart Leckie winning the overall with (43) points, Keith Taylor and Joy Gariano winning the front nine with (19) points each and Mike Reeve taking the back nine with (21) points. A special recognition goes out to our overall winner Stuart Leckie in that he posted a fantastic gross score of (73) or 1 over par. Stuart now holds the low gross score GMSG record at Maejo with his gross (73) score.  Congratulations to Stuart and to all the other winners! ???????????????????????????????

Today’s winners: Keith, Stuart, Joy & Mike

Our next schedule competition is the Chiang Mai SSSG vs. CMSG scheduled for this coming Wednesday (June 25, 2014). As reported previously a number of tee-times have been reserved prior to the official competition for those members not entered but want to play on Wednesday. Also, formal pairing will not be made and those wishing to play prior to the official match have to form their own groups.

Mae Jo, 18.06.14

This Wednesday we had (16) members and (2) guest participating in a 2-man best ball competition at Maejo. The team pairings today we selected by a random draw of score cards resulting in a real mix (handicap basis) of teams. Today we all completed our round of golf in (4) hours or less under overcast skies with continual light cool breezes making this one of the most temperature wise enjoyable round of golf. The following are today’s result 1st Place:   (2-way tie)      shared by :     Don Bishop / Gary Cooke      and      Jeff Crosthwaite   /  Jack Kuzina         Net 61 2nd Place (2-way tie)       shared by:       Ron Hill / Frank Schwarz     and       Yung Beece /  Graham Adams            Net  63 It should be mentioned that Don Bishop shot a fantastic round of 95 (gross) and if there was a count back in place his team would be the sole owner of 1st place. Congratulations goes out to Don and all of today’s winners!   ???????????????????????????????

We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday (June 29 2014 @ 8:00 am start) for a Stableford Nassau competition

Lanna, 16.06.14

On a nice overcast morning 17 CMSG took on the number 1 + 2 course at Lanna on a two man team Stableford competition. The weather might have been on the cool side but the scoring wasn’t. We had four teams soring in the 40’s, but sorry to say only three teams can be in the money. With two teams tying at 42 points we had to do a count back once more. The team of Frank Schwarz and Lennart Larsson ended up in third with the team of Richard Massey and Barry Ochitwa taking second. First place went to the team of Gary Lyon and Graham Best with the best score of 46.  Congratulation to all our winners and players for a great round of golf. Let’s not forget next Monday at Lanna we’ll be having a going away get together after the golf outing for our good friend David Uriwin-Smith. Food will be provided but drinks are on you.   All Winner Lanna 16.6.14

Mae Jo, 13.06.14

This Friday we had (19) members and (4) guests showing up at Maejo for a Friday round of golf. The weather started off fine with overcast skies and cool temperatures but as the round progressed we experienced a light rain shower followed by extremely humid conditions with the temperatures increasing under sunny skies as we completed our respective rounds. Today the groups were formed by arrival times (1st come 1st off etc.) and we all teed off on schedule off both the #1 and #10 tee boxes. For some unknown reason our first group off of Tee #1 slowed down play for the remaining groups playing behind them; but we still all completed our respective round under 4-1/2 hours. Today’s competition was Stableford with Mike Reeves taking first 1st place honors with (36) points followed by a 4-way tie for 2nd place being shared by Frank Schwarz, Robert Green, Lennart Larsson, Jeff Crosthwaite.  Hats off to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Today’s winners: Frank, Mike, Robert ( Jeff and Lennart not present )

We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday – June 18, 2014 for a 2- man best ball competition (teams to be assigned the morning of match)

Alpine Scramble, 12.06.14

Mae Jo, 11.06.14

Another strong turn-out as we had (22) members and (2) guests playing another round of Wednesday golf at Maejo.  The morning started off extremely warm and humid but later on a light rain cooled down the temperature so that the final (9) holes for most groups were more bearable.  Everyone arrived on time and we had (3) foursomes teeing off both the #1 and #10 tees.   The groups teeing off of #1 tee box had no one in from of them so they all completed their respective round in approx. 4 hours.  The last group that teed off #10 tee box were slowed drastically as (2) groups of golfer were allowed to tee-off right as our last group made the turn to the 1st tee box subsequently having the last group completing their round in 4-3/4 hours. Today was our monthly stroke play competition with Kim Anderson shooting a 86 gross 67 Net to take 1st place honors.  Taking 2nd place honors today was Nigel Stubbs posting  score of (78) gross – (71) net.  with Ron Hill taking 3rd place with a score of (92) gross (72) nets.  Hats off to all of today’s winners! We look forward to seeing all of our members this coming Friday June 13, 2014 for a Stableford competition. ???????????????????????????????

Today’s smiling winners:  Ron, Kim & Nigel

Temporary rule modification:  On those holes were the fairway is under repair with square of new grass and where a “Ground Under Repair” sign is not present a free drop will be allowed if one’s ball lies on the recently planted patch of grass.

Lanna, 09.06.14

I’m sure because of the nice cool weather (more or less) 21 CMSG members came out to Lanna for a fun day of golf. Even with a little more golfers than norm and a little rain near the end of the round all golfers made it around in good time. The scoring was on the cool side once again. Richard Massey and Kim Stogner tied for third with 33 points but on count Richard took third by one point. Our old friend Gary Walker took second place with 34 points. For the first time in the winners circle Joy Gariano took first place with 36 points. I’m sure it wont be the last time we see her here. Congratulation to all winners for a job well done. In two weeks (23 of June) at Lanna we will be holding a going away get together for David Smith after our round of golf. If you don’t know by now, David is headed back to cold old England and then it’s off to the U.S. to pick up his little sail boat for the adventure of a life time sailing the waters of the world. So come on out and wish him good luck on his adventures.

Mae Jo, 06.06.14

Another good turn-out as we had (22) members and (2) guests teeing off for another Friday round of golf at Maejo. The course was virtually empty with no groups playing ahead of us and slowing us down as we all completed our respective rounds in (4) hours or less.  The start of the round was played under overcast skies making it somewhat comfortable temperature wise but as the round progressed the sun broke through subsequently resulting in another day of unbearable heat.  Also, for the first time we made up the pairing by drawing various colored ball resulting in a completely random mix of groups. At this time we would like to thank Keith Taylor for losing his marbles (or should I say donating his marbles) for the random draw. In addition, we again request that our members arrive (30) minutes prior to the scheduled tee-off time in order to facilitate future random pairings. Relative to the scores and winners Nigel Stubbs took 1st place honors with (39) points followed in 2nd place Harry Nieuwland scoring (37) points. 3rd place was shared by Gary Cooke and Joob Schillemans both scoring (36) points. Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Harry, Nigel, Gary & Joop

We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday – June 11, 2014 for our monthly Stroke play competition – Tee off 8:08  – arrive by 7:20 at the latest Courtesy Notice: As a common sense reinforcement we request that all of our members always be courteous to the Maejo Caddies and  staff. At times we may become frustrated with  our caddies and/or possibly the staff but we must remember that possibly due to language barriers they might not fully comprehend our requests. On the most part (99.9% of the time) all the Maejo staff completes their jobs on a most satisfactory manner which at times dealing with us might be very trying and difficult on their part. So lets all remember to be courteous and understanding  toward all of the Maejo Staff. Thank you!

Mae Jo, 04.06.14

This Wednesday we had (28) members and (1) guest teeing off a Maejo under extremely hot and humid conditions. Today most of our members arrived on time so that the pairings were easily completed except for a couple of late arrivals which caused some confusion but nothing to worry about. Today the competition format was Stableford and the results are as follows: 1st Place:                Harry Nieuwland                                                                                      (40) points 2nd Place:              3-way tie being shared by –  Yung Beece, Kim Anderson, Calvin Davis    (38) points 3rd Place:               3-way tie being shared by-   Ron Hill, Ted Taylor, Jerry Buckley               (37) points Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners! Please note that future grouping on a monthly rotational basis will be decided as follows: A) Random draw of numbered golf balls B) By similar handicap for stroke play competition C) By arrival time – early arrivals grouped together and also tee-off first Further information will follow upon the formal publishing of the grouping sequence We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday for a scheduled tee-off at 8:08 am  –  Stableford Nassau ???????????????????????????????

On a very humid and warm morning 17 CMSG tested their golf skills in stroke play competition at Lanna. Even with the course being on the damp side after a night of rain, something we’ll just have to get use to since it looks like the rainy season is back once more. That didn’t stop most of the golfers from scoring close to their handicap, with a few exceptions. One of our new members Ashley Kim came in third with a net 73. Keith Freeman who’s name seems to be mentioned a lot these days had a net 72 to take second place. The hot golfer of the day was Barry Ochitwa who had a net 65 to take first place. Congratulation to all winners.

On another nice day for playing golf with a covered sky for at least the first 9 and thanks to the nightly rain a pretty good temperature we had 24 players. 21 players were in the competition for the big money and Bob Green played his 4th Hcp card.  Four groups teed off at the hole nr 1 and two groups on nr 10. There were a few players on the course so everybody arrived within a short period of time at the caddy shack. The format was Stableford nassau with some very good scores. The overall winner was Nigel Stubbs who came in with a score of 39 Stableford points. He did beat Jeffrey Himel who had the same score but one shot more on the net score compared to Nigel. On the front nine there was a tie between Richard Brown and Jeffrey Himel with 21 Stableford points. Joop Schillemans won on the back by himself with 20 points. Congratulation to all the winners.

Another great day for Golf. 24 members made their way to Mae Jo today to participate at the monthly Medal play. It was great to see Ron Hill back in the office.

There was also a group of 4 members (Jim Hopkins, Stuart Duncan, Larry Richard, Don Bishop) playing early to avoid the heat of the day, they left the Scores at the 19th hole, and we want to mention that Stuart Duncan had a great round with 42 Stableford points. The heat was not the problem today but the humidity is getting higher which requires a towel for most of us almost as important as the 14 Clubs we carry. As for the Stroke play competition we played in two Categories, A 0 – 19 CH and B 20 – 38 CH. We teed off in the order of Handicaps and had 2 groups of Tee # 10. The course was almost empty and everyone made it around in 4 1/2 hours. The Winner for the Low Net in Category A was Ram Taylor with a great 68, and the Low Gross was Nigel Stubbs with a 81. The Winner for the Low Net in Category B was Michael Kuzmich with a 70 and the Low Gross was Ron Hill with a 94. Congratulations to all Winners and thank you for coming out in those rather warm and humid condition. Note: We want to mention that the Mae Jo Golf Course has changed the Out of Bounce on Hole # 13. The OB line is now directly left of the cart path. So if your Ball is heading left from the Tee Box please hit a provisional Ball to make sure you do not have to get back to the Tee Box when you find out that your first Ball is in fact OB. Lanna, 26.05.14

On another warm and sunny day at Lanna 18 CMSG played a fast round of Stableford Golf. The course was in good shape as always. Some of the greens were on the soft side so the golfers were able to get the ball to stop on the greens with good chip shots. The scoring was on the warm side too. the only hot golfer of the day was Keith Freeman who had 41 points to take the overall high points for the day. On the front nine we had a four way tie at 18 points. After a long discussion on how to do Stableford count-back (thank you Richard) Gary Lyon took the front nine. The back nine wasn’t much better with a two tie at 21 points and doing the count-back correctly John Barrett took the back nine. Congratulation to all the winners. Next Monday at Lanna it will be stroke play on course 3 & 1 so come on out and test your golf stills. DSCF5104

Today was a special day becauce  not only the rules of golf but a lot of other rules were in play since yesterday. We had a turn out of 13 players, 12 were in the comp and Rob Green played his second handicap card, 88 strokes well done Rob. The format was the old boring stableford. The winner with an extra ordinary amount of points of 42 points was or much beloved captain Frank. Tied for second came in The Reeves family, Ted and Nigel all with 36 stable ford points! We had to say goodbye to Dennis, who will be back in about four month.  Have a save trip Dennis! Hope to see you all on next wednesday.

Mae Jo, 21.05.14

Today was a special day because one of our members turned 60, Sam Torr, and together with Stuart Duncan who’s Birthday was on May 12, they invited all players for drinks and food after todays round. Sam also requested to play a 2 player Best Ball Stableford format. We had playing in teams 34 members and one member outside the competition (just returned from Australia). We were allowed to go off split Tees which is always very appreciated by the Golf course especially with a bigger group. Sam & Stuart had 2 Mystery prices for the team which predicted before Tee off their final Score and the team with the lowest combined Stableford points on all Par 3, those Mystery prices were not explained before playing so we had a couple of surprised players when they received unexpectedly Baht 1.000. The weather was kind to us, it was partially cloudy with some breeze and therefor the temperature was tolerable. At the 19th hole everybody seem to have a great time (no Wonder free Beer and food) and this point also want to thank Ron Hill for getting up a 3 am and backing a cake for Sam & Stuart. As to the final results: The Winner with a stellar 46 Stableford points are Noi and Keith Taylor, in second place with 45 Stableford points Yung Beece and Joe Albright and three teams tied in third place with 44 Stableford points are Dizzy and Mike Reeve, Harry Nieuwland and Larry Richard, Gary Cooke and Lennart Larsson. The Winners of the Mystery price with their exact prediction are Ram Taylor and Pranee A. Buckley, the Winners of the second Mystery price for the lowest combined Stableford points for all 4 Par 3 are Graham Adams and Jack Cooper. Congratulations to all of todays Winners. Thank you to all members who came out to support our Birthday boys and this great game of Golf. And again, Sam and Stuart, thank you very much for a great day, good company, great generosity and we all wish you both the best and good health for a long time to come. Winners Maejo 21.05.14

Lanna, 19.05.14

Under cloudy sky’s golfers headed out for a fun day of golfing at Lanna and as luck would have it the sun came out to make it a nice warm day. The golfing format of the day was a new one for the golfers which numbered 18 two of them were new members. Bob Green from Australia and Ashley Kim from England, welcome to the CMSG. The Golf format was a skins game with a low net prize as well. In the end there were 6 skins won by 6 different golfers each skins was worth 165 bht. Going to Peter Brown, Gary Lyon, Lister Twigden, Allan Gariano, Terry Redding and Keith Freeman. Low net went to John Barrett with a 72 and took home 410 bht. not bad for a day of golfing. Even though it was a different format than what the golfers where use to, all had fun and we’ll be playing it again but not on a monthly paces. Next Monday we’ll be back to Stableford play so come on out and enjoy the fun at Lanna.

Mae Jo, 16.05.14,

Another rather warm and humid day, but 22 members made their way out to the Mae Jo Golf Course to battle the elements. Toda y’s format was a Stableford Nassau. 3 – four Ball teed of # 1 and 2 three Ball went of # 10. All players finished in decent time. Ron Hill came over for a refreshment and it was good to see him in good sprits and health, he told us he will be back when the temperature will drop 10 degrees, Joop Schillemans came also to the 19th hole as he is feeling a bit better with his back pain. As for the results: Overall Winner with a supping 41 points was Kim Anderson. Tied for the highest Stableford points on the front was Christian Friis and Lennart Larsson. The back was won with 20 points by Graham Adams. Congratulation to all winners and thanks to all of you to come out and play. Winners Maejo 16.05.14

Today we had 25 players, good but a bit humid weather with nice views on the hills. The format was stableford. On first place, the winner was Lennart with 40 points from the reds. Second came Nigel and Frank shared his third third place with Gary. Well done guys! Please look at the website for the line up next week for Sam’s birthday and the away game at Highlands.

Lanna, 12.05.14

On a warm and sunny morning at Lanna 18 CMSG teed off for another good round of golf. A late morning breeze kept it from getting to hot but the scoring was a little on the cooler side with 37 points being the high for the day which was shared by three golfers. Since we only give out three places the money was divided among the three of them. After a quick figuring and looking at the back nine scoring Terry Redding took first place. The Commodore Sr. David Uriwin-Smith taking  second, leaving Gary Lyon in third. We would like to welcome back Gary Cooke from Team Ferrari, good to have you back. Next Monday we’ll have a new competition format SKINS so come and join in on the fun.

Maejo, 09.05.14

This Friday the numbers were down somewhat but we still had (22) members and (1) guest playing in a “Best Ball” competition. We all teed-off on schedule from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes with everyone completing their respective round in approximately 4 to 4-1/4 hours. In addition, it appears that the polluted air has left us as we played under clear skies coupled with extremely hot sun shine for the 1st nine holes with some light breezes picking up during the 2nd half of our round. Relative to the completion the following were today’s “Best Ball” winners: 1st Place:          Frank Schwarz and Jeff Crosthwaite –  Net  61 2nd Place:          Allan and Joy Gariano                          –  Net  64 3rd Place:           Mike and Dizzy Reeve                          –  Net 65 It also should be mentioned that Anton Buys and Gino Wernikoff finished with Net 66 as rumor has it that Gino was driving the ball off the tee similar to Bubba Watson.

We had a stable ford nassau. The overall winner was Dennis Byrne with 42 stable ford points, the front nine was won by Dizzy Reevee with 22 and the back nine by Ram Taylor. Well done lady’s !!!

Lanna, 05.05.14

There was no golf at Lanna today, WHY you may ask after we were told that it would be sports day price for us even though it was a holiday. Well to make a long st ore short the Lanna manager was over ruled by the Lanna golf Committee and told him he could not give us the sports day price. So that is why golf was canceled at Lanna this Monday. Now for some good news, Maybe? I was told by the office people that the Lanna Manager is trying to get the Lanna Golf Committee to let the CMSG play at Lanna every day at the sports day price (800bt). That would be nice if it comes about for those who likes to play Lanna. Some more Lanna news. From the first of May until the end of June you will be able to play golf at Lanna for 1000bt that includes 18 holes of golf, caddie and cart. Like I said before not bad. Cheers and take care Lanna Captain

Maejo, 02.05.14

Today we had a record turn out of 31 members and all on time (thanks for that). We had 5 groups teeing off #1 and 3 groups teeing off #10. The course was quiet busy for this time of the year and we had to deal with some slow 4 Balls and 5 balls but all in all we made it around in 4 1/2 hours. We have a recent strong showing of our Ladies which is nice to see. The format today was Stableford and because of the high number of Players we have 4 Winners. Coming in 4th place with a good 36 Stableford points was Dizzy Reeve, in third place with 37 Stableford points Noi Taylor, in second place with 38 Stableford points and in 1st place a super 40 Stableford points was Kim Anderson. Congratulations to all Winners. ???????????????????????????????

The next coming competition in Maejo is on Wednesday (May 6, 2014) for a Stableford Nassau competition – Tee off: 08:08 Am

Maejo, 30.04.14

Another strong turn-out as (28) members participated this Wednesday at Maejo. Again, the starters allowed us to tee-off from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes subsequently allowing most of our groups to complete their respective rounds under (4-1/2) hours. Some our groups were held up by slow play which was attributed to our own members. It also appears that the heat wave of the last few weeks is ending as we played in hot but more bearable temperatures. Relative to the competition Rob Grootenhuijs took the overhaul honors in our Nassau competition posting a great score of (41) points. We had a 3-way tie for the front nine with Noi Taylor, Pranee Buckley and Anton Buys all scoring (19) points each. The back nine winner was Dennis Byrne who scored (20) points. Hats off to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Lanna, 28.04.14

On a warm sunny morning 15 CMSG and 1 guest played the Lanna 1 & 2 courses  in four hours with everyone finishing in a timely manner. A little breeze kept it from getting to hot which made it even nicer. Scoring was good Barry Ochitwa and Gary Lyon both had 37 points to share third, Keith Freeman had 37 points to take second and for the second week in a roll Allan Gariano took first place with 41 points. That should take his handicap down a little. Next Monday is a  holiday but it will be golfing as usual at Lanna (sports day prices) and since it’s the first Monday of the month it’ll be stroke competition on the 3 & 1 courses at Lanna so come on out and test your skills in stroke play.

Maejo, 25.04.14

Another great turn-out as we had (25) members and (3) guests participating in a Friday round of golf at Maejo.  This (28) person turn out must be close to a record number for a Friday.  One reason for this high number is based on Keith Taylor inviting (5) players to join us with his Maejo  birthday coupon.  We also would like to extend a belated Happy Birthday to Keith.    Relative to the golf our groups again teed off both the #1 and #10 tee boxes with most of the groups completing their respective round in a little over (4) hours under extremely hot and sunny conditions.   Hopefully in a few weeks the rainy season will start; subsequently cooling down the temperatures to more bearable playing conditions. Today the format was our monthly “Stroke” play wilth Steven Bjorge taking 1st place honors with a net score of 70 (gross 91). Alone in 2nd place today was Ram Taylor finishing with a net score of (71).   3rd place today was shared between Harry Nieuwland and Steve Matcalf both shooting net (72).  Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners!

We look forwards to seeing everyone next Wednesday ( April 30, 2014 ) for a Stableford Nassau competition:  Tee-off  8:08 AM

Mae Jo, 23.04.14

Another hot and sweltering day at Maejo as we had (23) members and (1) guest teeing off for another round of Wednesday golf.  At this time we all extend a welcome back to Tom Berger and also a Maejo Welcome to Mike and Dizzy Reeve who will hopefully soon become regulars at Maejo.   Regardless of the morning rumors we teed off on both #1 and # 10 tee boxes which thankfully allowed most of the groups to complete their respective round in (4) hours. As far as the results go, after it was announced in error by the captain that the format was Stableford Nassau, it was corrected to Stableford with  1st place finishing in a tie between Michael ( Kuzy) Kuzmich and Mike Reeve both scoring (40) points.  2nd place goes to Noi Taylor with (38) points followed closely behind for 3rd place being shared by  Steve Metcalf and Anton Buys both scoring (37) points.  Hats off to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Lanna, 21.04.14

After a two week layoff of golf at Lanna 17 golfers took Lanna on once more. The weather was hot and sorry to say golfing was a little slow for some of us. A good pace of play must be maintained so all golfers can finishes in a timely manner. All group must stay up with the group ahead of them. We had one guest and soon to be member playing with the CMSG, Tom Burdeaux from the U.S. He spends about seven months out of the year here and enjoys playing golf in the Chiang Mai area, so the next time you see him say hi. Like I said the weather was hot and a long day of golfing sorry to say I the captain will have to do some adjustment to the prize money next week. As it was Peter Hadden (Smiley) came in third with 37 points. Peter Brown took second with 38 points and I Allan Gariano for a change took first with 39 points. No photos of the winners, like I said it was hot and I just plane forgot to take a photo of them. Next week at Lanna it will be Stableford play once more so come on out for a hot game of golf and good friendship. For information Lanna has a special for next Monday which will be the last Monday for the special . 18 holes of golf, caddy and cart for 1000 Bt. Not bad at all.

Mae Jo, 18.04.14

This Friday we had (16) members teeing off for another round of golf at Maejo. Everyone arrived on he time, for a change, so subsequently we teed off on schedule off the #1 and #10 tee boxes. Today the temperature reached the 100 degree F (38 C) mark resulting in an extremely hot and sweltering day on the course. Luckily we all completed our respective rounds in approx. (4) hours and proceeded to re-hydrate with liquid refreshments of all forms and type at the Caddy Shack. Today the format was “Match Play against the Course” where in most instances the “Course” won. We did have a few members beating the course as 1st place went to Gerry Brimacombe and Graham Adams both finishing with a great score of +3, 2nd place went to Stuart Duncan and Stuart Leckie both finishing with a score of +1. Hats off to today’s winners. ???????????????????????????????

As the “Piss Heads” completed their tournament yesterday we only had (15) members teeing off at Maejo for another Wednesday round of golf. All the Chiang Mai Social Golfers who participated in the “Piss Heads” tournament unanimously agreed that it was an extremely successful and most enjoyable event! Concerning our match today we all played under extremely hot conditions but luckily completed all our respective rounds in approx. (4) hours. Today we had a tie for 1st and 2nd place (Stableford) with Harry Nieuwland and Jeff Crosthwaite coming in first place with (37) points each followed by Gerry Brimacombe and Nigel Stubbs taking 2nd place honors with (36) points.  We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday where the format will be “Match Play against the Course” – Tee off 8:08 am

Mae Jo, 11.04.14

Not a bad turn-out this Friday as we had (12) members and (2) guests joining us today at Maejo.  The low turn-out is attributed  to the annual “Piss Head 2014” tournament that has a scheduled start at Royal Chiang Mai on Saturday morning.  Many of our  members participate in, and enthusiastically support, this popular tournament. Today’s match was played under extremely hot conditions which is typical for this time of the year  as we head into the start of Thailand’s Songkran ( New Year) holiday season.  Also, a few of our members were given the standard Songkran blessing by their caddies with cold water being poured down their backs, which today was refreshing to say the least. As for the results Stuart Leckie took overall  honors with (35) points with Leslie Mullen and Ken Nalder winning the front nine with (18) points each and Stuart Duncan winning the back nine with (20) points.  Congratulations goes out to today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Leslie, Stuart D, Stuart L, Ken

We look forward to seeing all our members for next Wednesdays Nassau Stableford match with another 8:08 tee-off start

Mae Jo, 09.04.14

Regardless of the hot weather and the smoggy air we had (23) members teeing off at Maejo for another round of Wednesday Golf. Typical for this time of the year  course was virtually empty and the starters let us tee off from both the #1 and #10 tee box. As our round progressed it appeared that the temperature was raising exponentially and by the time we completed our rounds it must have been close to 100 degrees F. Today the format was Stableford and taking first place honors with a great score of (40) points was Yung Beece. Second place honors goes to Jerry Buckley posting (38) points followed by Jim Hopkins and Gerry Brimacombe tied for third place with (37) points. Hats off to all of today’s winners. ???????????????????????????????

 Jim, Yung, Gerry & Jerry

Please note that based on the expected low turn out for this Friday match the format will be Stableford Nassau

Again,  tee-off is 8:08  – please arrive at least (30) minutes prior to tee-off

Mae Jo, 04.04.14

Another good turn out for a Friday as we had (22) members teeing off at the 8:08 starting time. Today, the Maejo Starter let 2 four-somes tee off the #10 tee box who completed their respective rounds approx. 40 minutes ahead of  the remaining (2) three-somes and (2) fours-somes teeing off from tee box #1. The reason for the front nine initially playing slow was that a group of Japanese teed off ahead of us subsequently slowing our play substantially. Concerning the weather, it was again smoggy in addition to being muggy with  high humidity coupled with some sunshine. As far as the results, the winners of the Stableford Nassau competition were Larry Richards taking the overall total score with (38) point. The front nine with (20) points went to Craig Morriss and the back nine went to Gerry Brimacombe and Stuart Leckie with (19) points each.  Hats off to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Gerry, Larry, Craig

Also Larry Richards had great timing as he won on his last day prior to returning to work.  We look forward to seeing Larry when he returns.

Next scheduled match is Wednesday April 9th at again 8:08 with a Stableford competition

Mae Jo, 02.04.14

Another good turn out as we had (24) members participating in  a 2-man team best ball. The course was virtually empty but for some reason lately the Maejo starters are requesting that all the groups only tee-off from hole # 1. Again the weather was on the warm and humid side complete with the current smog conditions that we have been experiencing over the past 2-3 weeks. All of our groups teed-off early and most of us completed our rounds in 4 hours. Relative to the match results taking first place honors with a net team stroke score of 62 was Jack Cooper and Lennart Larsson. 2nd place with a score of net 63 went to Frank Schwarz and Craig Morriss and 3rd place honors goes to the team of Stuart Leckie and Steve Bjorge posting a score of 64. Congratulations to all of today’s winning teams.

??????????????????????????????? Stuart, Steve, Jack, Lennart, Frank, Craig

Also please be advised that on May 21, 2014, as per the request of Sam Torr, we will schedule another 2 man best ball match (Stableford) complete with a prize for the closest to the pin on hole 7 coupled with Sam providing our post golf lunch and refreshments. Select/ Form  you team now -additional details to follow.

We look forward to seeing everyone this Friday for a Stableford match – Tee-off 8:08 – Please be at the course and ready to play 30 minutes prior!
