Match Reports July to September 2014

Lanna, 29.09.14

On a cloudless and warm Monday morning 18 CMSG and 1 guest headed out on the Lanna Golf Course to see how many points they accumulate in Stableford Competition. We welcomed back Mark Morris from Jolly Old England, good to have you back once more. Mark brought a friend with him this time a golfer by the name of Dell, welcome to Chiang Mai Dell.

Maybe it was the blue skies that made the scoring on the low side for the early groups of golfers. But as the old saying goes, save the best for last. As it was the high score for the day was 31 points but that was before the last group came in with some respectable points. Gary Lyon’s came in with 32 points to take third, Bob Green took second with 34 points and Keith Freeman came in first with a total of 37 points. Maybe playing in the last group isn’t so bad after all. Congratulation to our winners.

Since next Monday is the first Monday of the month it will be Stroke Play at Lanna, starting on the Pony side of the course.

Mae Jo, 26.09.14

Today we only had (9) members participating in another round of Friday golf at Maejo. The reason for the small turn-out could be attributed to many members playing the previous day at the Gold Canyon scramble coupled with the heavy morning rain prior to today’s scheduled tee-off.   The (3) three-some’s all teed off the number one tee-box in a light drizzle of rain as the downpours stopped (5) minutes prior to our teeing off.  Basically, having the course all to ourselves, we all completed our respective rounds in 3-1/2 hours or less which was one of the fastest rounds over the last few months. Relative to the weather we had a combination of light rain to no rain and also a few clear skies making it a good day to be on the links. Also, most of the today’s members could be categorized as our low handicappers except for yours truly.

Concerning the Nassau Stableford results they were nothing to write home about as we had a 3-way tie for “Overall” winner with a grand total of (33) points each being shared by Frank Schwarz, Nigel Stubbs, and Stuart Leckie. The front nine winner was Harry Nieuwland and Gary Cooke took the back nine honors. Based on the numbers one can imagine that the competition payout today barely could pay for ones lunch. In closing, it turned out to be another great day playing golf.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday October 1, 2014 for a Nassau Competition with a tee-time at the usual 8:00 am.  Let all be there at least (30) minutes to the scheduled tee time to facilitate the pairing.

Mae Jo, 24.09.14

Another beautiful day with light overcast and little sunshine. The course was in good shape except some of the Greens which have been aerated and therefore the Ball speed varies from Green to Green. Today we had 18 Players and one guest which I tought was a great turnout considering that 17 of those 18 are also playing tomorrow at the September Scramble at the Gold Canyon Golf Course. We had some great Scoring which did not effect the team Handicap for tomorrow. The Winner with 40 points was Graham Adams, in second place with 39 points was Gary Cooke and with 38 points in third place was Robert McPhee. Congratulation to all Winners. On Friday we have a Stableford Nassau format with the usual starting time at 08:00 am. Winners Maejo 24.09.14

Lanna, 22.09.14

On another fine Monday morning at Lanna with the weather perfect for golf, 17 CMSG and 1 guest headed out on the course for a two person best ball completion. Speed of play was good with all teams completing there rounds in about four hours. Most of the greens had been aerated so they were a little bumpy but should be in great shape for the clubs annual tournament next month.

With seven teams in the competition and being two person teams only first and second prizes were given out. Leading the field with 48 points was the tram of Ric Cameron and Gordon Langtry to take first place. The team of Darrell Pinney and Allan Gariano came in a close second with 46points. Congratulation to the winners and to all the golfers for a great round of golf. Next Monday at Lanna we’ll be back to plane  old Stableford Competition.

Mae Jo, 19.09.14

This Friday we had a total of 21 players turning up for today’s Stableford Nassau format. Khun Nah as the starter for today said we all have to go off Tee # 1 because of some players coming in the past of # 18 going to # 1 and than waiting for groups which are just teeing off (at their booked Tee Times) and complaining about it. Today it was a great decision because when we came from # 9 going to Tee # 10 we saw a huge group of Golfers just getting ready to tee off. If our groups would have made the turn at that time, well we would be still waiting for those at the Caddy Shak. We teed off in the order of arrival with three 3-Balls and 3 4-Balls. The atmosphere was great between the players and we all turned in after rounds of around 4 hours for the 4 Balls. As for todays Winners, Best overall Score was Noi Taylor with 38 points (Keith not playing today), the highest front nine Stableford points had Robert (Bob) Green and on the back nine tied for 19 points was Dennis Byrne and Frank Schwarz. Congratulations to all Winners and see you at Mae Jo next Wednesday for a Stableford format. Winners Maejo 19.09.14

Mae Jo, 17.09.14

Today we had 21 players and the 6 groups all had to play from the first hole. The format was medal (Stoke play) under a covered sky with a pretty high temperature and it was quite humid as well. Mike Pattavina shot his 5th handicap card and will be in the competition next time. We welcome back Gordon and we are looking  forward to play with him for the next 6 months. Today we had a two way tied for 3th Nigel and Harry. A two way tied for second were Ram and and Graham. Finally captain Frank shot a very good net 71 for the win.

Lanna, 15.09.14

On another fine morning of golfing weather 21 CMSG teed off on Stableford Nassau competition at Lanna. As usual the course was in good shape, fairways good, but the greens could have been in better shape. With a little luck they’ll be in top condition for the clubs Annual Tournament on the 20th of October. It’s that time of year again when we start to see more of our members returning to Chiang Mai for our not so cold winter months and great golfing weather. It was good to have Ric Cameron back and it’s our understanding his back for good. Also back is Ashley Kim Sing but sorry to say only for a short time this time. Barry Ochitwa has returned from his vacation in Canada and not all to soon for it snowed right after he left B.C.. Good to have everyone back safe and sound and ready to play golf. Now back to golf. Scoring was low once more for most of our golfers but one golfer showed that Lanna isn’t all that hard. Peter Hadden (Smiley) won the overall high score with 40 points. The next highest score was 35 points. Once again we had to use the count back system to determine the front and back nine winners. Richard Massey got the front nine with 18 points. John Barrett took the back nine with 19 points. Congratulation to our winners.

Next week at Lanna we’ll be play two Man Best Ball. Pairing will be picked by random as you come in.

Mae Jo, 12.09.14

Another sunny day at the Mae Jo Golf Course. A fantastic 31 members came out to enjoy the fresh air and the clear views, agh and the Golf of course. A warm Welcome back to Ric Cameron and Dennis Byrne. We teed off in usual fashion on the front and back tee. Unfortunately for the second, third and fourth group coming from the back nine going to Tee # 1, because they where slowed down by three 4 Ball Koreans teeing off. The average playing time was still within the four and a half hour period, so it was not all that bad. I want to mention an incident which happened on the 5th hole. Ron Hill had a side hill lie near the end of the Water Hazard on the left side of the fairway. After he hit is Ball he lost his balance and stepped back, the thing was he stepped into an empty space and fell down into the little canal. Luckily he did not heart himself to bad. He had some cuts on his arms but no broken bones. He decided to call it a day after his mishap. We wish him a quick recovery and hope to seem him back next week. Todays format was Stableford. The Winner with a total of 41 points was Steve Metcalf, coming in second with his best Gross performance (76) at Mae Jo this year was Nigel Stubbs with 39 points and in third place was Dennis Byrne with 34 points. Worth mentioning is also that this was the first time for Steve to brake the 90 mark. Congratulation to all Winners and a big thank you for everyone who came out today. Winners Maejo 12.09.14

See you next Wednesday for a tee off at 08:00 hour for our monthly Stroke Play event.

Mae Jo, 10.09.14

On this glorious Wednesday morning with Temperatures reaching quickly the 30 degrees Celsius we had a total of 25 members playing a 2 man Best Ball format. A warm welcome back to Larry Richard. The course was literally empty and we played of the split tees which helped to finalize todays Golf for most groups in around 4 hours. As to the Winners, first place was a tie with 45 points between the team of Graham Adams and Kim Anderson and the team of Ron Hill (fantastic solo from Ron) and Frank Schwarz, in second place alone with 44 points was the team of Michael Kuzmich and Anton Buys. Congratulations to all Winners. Winners Maejo 10.09.14

This format does not qualify to used for the Handicap system nor the Player of the Year points. A big thank you to everyone for coming out, we hope to see you again on Friday to a regular Stableford event at the usual time at 08:00 am.

Lanna, 08.09.14

It’s the rainy season but you would never had known it Monday morning at Lanna with nice blue sky’s and warm temperatures greeting 18 CMSG or should I say 17 members and one new member. Ralph Hamilton from Canada so when you see him say hi and welcome to our golf society. We also want to welcome back to Chiang Mai, Gordon Langtry and family, good to see you again. The course was in good shape as always. Some of the fairway grass was a little longer than usual of the rain but they were out mowing as we played our round. The competition of the day was Stableford and with warmer temperatures  the scoring was a little warmer too than what they had been in weeks past. Keith Freeman took first places with 39 points. Once more we had a three way tie at 35 points. Darrell Pinney, Gary Walker and Joy Gariano all came in with 35 points.  But with our count back system that we all love Darrell took second with Gary just beating out Joy for third. Congratulation to our winners. Next week at Lanna our competition will be Stable – Nassau so come on out and test your golf stills at Lanna.

Mae Jo, 05.09.14

Today we had 23 players with 3 groups starting from the first tee and 3 groups from the tenth tee. The weather was pretty nice with a covered sky when we started our round but after 9 holes it got really hot and humid and the sun came out. All the groups weer quite fast so every arrived at the caddy shack about the same time. Frank announced that from the 3 December on to the end of March the Mae Jo golf course will give us 8 tee times, 4 from the front and 4 from back nine. The tee times will be earlier starting just around 7:12 – 7:20 am. Keith Taylor won the front nine, Steven Bjorge and Bob Green were tight for the win on the back nine and Frank Schwarz the overall winner with a 45 points. Today 24 players starting under dark clouds but no rain on Tee # 1 and Tee # 10. After a couple of holes the sky turned blue and it was more on the warm side.Only one Player beat the course today. Due to the heavy rain is the past days we allowed lift place and clean through the green. The format was Match Play against the course which proved once more that Mae Jo is not easy to conquer. The soft course conditions might had also something to do with the scoring. As to the Winners: First place with a +1 was Yung Beece with an excellent round, tied for second place were a family affair with Noi and Keith Taylor at -1. Congratulations to todays Winners. Winner Maejo 03.09.14

We see you again on Friday with a Stableford Nassau, starting at 08:00 am.

Lanna, 01.09.14

In a very light rain 13 CMSG showed up at Lanna to play Strike 3 Stroke Competition. But one went home when he started to melt in the rain so only 12 went out on the course. Glad to say the light rain only lasted for about four holes and then the sun came out to warm things up and the humidity went up a little too. Strike 3 Stroke Competition is just normal stroke competition but at the of your round you deduct 3 holes form your score card normally the worst 3. As it was the scoring was good, three golfers came in a net 58 with the other close behind. So after looking and talking over everything, Bob Green took first with Gary Walker taking second and the left Darrell Pinney holding third. Hats off to the winners and to the other golfers that don’t mine a little rain. Next week at Lanna we’ll be back to Stableford Competition, rain or sine so come on out and see how many points you can score.   Lanna Winners 01.09.14

Another good Friday turn-out as (22) members and (1) guest participated in another round of golf at Maejo.  Today we played almost the entire round under light rain but at least relatively cool temperatures.  Our groups again teed off from both the  front and back nine holes and most groups completed their respective round in (4) hours. The competition today was Stableford and taking first place honors was Richard Brown posting a great score of (41) points.  Taking 2nd place today was Ted Taylor completing a good round by scoring (37) points.  Last but not least, was Don Bishop capturing 3rd place with a score of (35) points.  Hats off to all of today’s winners!

??????????????????????????????? Today’s Winner Circle:  Don, Richard, & Ted

As the norm,  most of us headed down to the Caddy Shack for some needed refreshments coupled with our usual socializing and random, but at times interesting conversations.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday September 3, 2014 at Maejo.   As a reminder, scheduled tee-off is 8:00 am so please be at the club house at least(30)  minutes prior so that groups can be formed.

Mae Jo, 27.08.14

This Wednesday we had (28) members teeing off a Maejo on another ideal day for golf.   Our round started off with overcast skies and soon after we were playing under sunny and hot conditions which then changed to light rainfall , and ending again with sunny skies.  For some unknown reason the weather could not make up its mind!  Relative to the pace of play some of our groups  were slowed after making the turn from the 18th to the 1st hole,  but we still  completed our respective rounds in 4 to 4-1/2 hours. As to the Stableford Nassau results Graham Adams posted an impressive score of (42) points which included (4) birdies to win the overall total category.  Winning the front nine with (23) points was Ron Hill  that included (5) pars and (1) birdie.  Ron just edged out Noi Taylor who posted a front nine score of (22).  Also posting (23) points ,with a birdie on #18 ,and taking the back  nine honors was Kim Anderson.  Hats off to all of today’s winners.  Great scores!

At this juncture we are taking this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to new members Robert McPhee and  Michael Pattavina.

In closing, it should be noted that during lunch, after our round, there were discussions on some  rules infractions that took place today.  It was also noted that these rules infractions were not discussed with the player at the time of the infraction and also not mentioned during the round, only after the round.  To facilitate, clarify and possibly help educate our members any noted rules infraction should be discussed and reviewed at the time of the infraction.  This process would subsequently assist, and as stated educate our members on the rules of golf.

We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday where the competition will be Stableford.   Let’s all be there 30 minutes prior to  the 8:00 AM  tee-off in order to facilitate the pairings.

Lanna, 25.08.14

On a very nice warm and sunny morning at the Lanna golf Course 14 CMSG headed out for a fun game of Stableford Golf. The fairways where nice  but the greens could have been in a little better shape and as usual the trees played a part in why the scoring was once again on the lower side.  As it was four golfers tied at 33 points so the count back system was used to break the tie. John Barrett came out on top to take second place with Lennart Larsson left with third. The other two golfers with 33 points was Gary Lyon and Gary Walker, sorry guys that it didn’t workout for you this time. The top golfer of the day was Keith Freeman with 34 points. Congratulation to all.

Mae Jo, 20.08.14

This Friday we had only (13) members and (1) guest playing another Friday round of golf at Maejo. The low turn-out can be attributed to the previous day’s (Thursday ) away match at Doi Inthanon. For a change we played under sunny skies and not the recent norm of the combination of clouds and rain. As usual, we started our round off both the #1 and #10 tee boxes with all the groups completing their round in a little over (4) hours. Today we are pleased and proud to report extremely fantastic scores. Taking first place honors today was our President Frank Schwarz posting a remarkable (35) Stableford points. Taking 2nd place with an outstanding score of (32) points and not dropping out of the “Buffer Zone” was Steve Metcalf. 3rd place honors goes to Anton Buys by posting a score of (31) points. Due to time and space restraints we at this time will not report the scores of today’s non-winners. As one could imagine, these scores could possibly qualify all of today’s players a substitute position on the upcoming Ryder Cup.

Our pre-shower winners from left to right are Anton Buys, Frank Schwarz and Steve Metcalf.

As usual, tee-off is 8:00 AM.

This Wednesday (15) members and (2) guests participating in our Monthly Stoke Play competition at Maejo. The heavy early hour rains again stopped prior to our scheduled tee 0ff time making it another good day on the links. Due to the conditions of the fairways we have recently been playing “Lift, Clean, & Place” for all fairway balls. Again the starters allowed us to tee-off from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes and all our groups completed their respective rounds in approximately (4) hours. Relative to the results today we had a tie for 1st place being shared by Steve Metcalf and Gary Cooke both posting a net score of (73). Taking 2nd place honors was Calvin Davis finishing with a net score of (75) and 3rd place today goes to Yung Beece with a net (76). Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners!   ???????????????????????????????

Today’s Winners: Gary, Steve, & Calvin

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at Doi Inthanon for our monthly away match and to seeing everyone this Friday at Maejo for a Stableford competition.

Lanna, 18.08.14

24 CMSG and 1 guest (21 in the competition) went out Monday morning at Lanna and I must say the weather was great for golfing and the course was in great shape too. It did rain well after the competition was over or maybe it was just the skies crying in sympathy for the golfers. For on this day Lanna showed just how hard it can be on any given day. Out of all the golfers only 5 had points above 30 and with only a high of 36 which would normally be on the low side if placing at all in Stableford Competition . Guess it was just one of those days that the Golf Gods where having it there way. The Competition for the day was Stableford Nassau. Keith Taylor took the front nine with 20 points. The back nine went to another Keith, Keith Freeman with 18 points. The total high points for the 18 holes went to Jomo Mac Dermott with 36 points. Good game guys and congratulation.

Mae Jo, 15.08.14

With heavy rains in the early hours of Friday morning  only (13) members and (1) guest decided to get in another round of golf at Maejo.  Luckily and surprisingly the rain stopped (5) minutes prior to our scheduled 8:00 am tee off time.  Today all the groups started their round on the front nine under cloudy but rainless conditions making it weather-wise a great day for golf.   The course was extremely wet after all of the recent rainfall so we decided to play lift, clean, and place on all fairway balls.  The only drawback today was that it took us more than 4-1/2 hours to complete our round.   Relative to the completion the 2-man best ball format was cancelled due to the low turn out so we played Stableford.  Taking first place honors today was Nigel Stubbs scoring (38) Stableford points.  2nd place today was shared by Robert Green, Graham Adams, and Tom Berger all posting a score of (35) points.  We also had a 2-way tie for 3rd place with (34) points each by Steve Metcalf and Richard Brown.  Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Today’s Prize money winners:  Robert, Tom, Nigel, & Graham

We also wish Tom Berger a safe return to work and look forward to seeing him again next November. As always, we look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday where the format will be our “Monthly Stroke Play” – tee off at 8:00 AM

Mae Jo, 13.08.14

This Wednesday we had (19) members and (1) guest teeing off at Maejo.  Everyone arrived on time so we all teed off on schedule off the #1 and #10 tee boxes. The weather today was ideal for golf as we had mostly overcast skies and constant cool breezes.  Nothing unusual to report except for Yung Beece wearing (2) different shoes.  I guess, for Yung wearing an odd pair of shoes is considered normal.   Relative to the results we had some extremely high scoring today.  Taking 3rd place with (42) points was Gary Cooke. Hard to believe, but (43) points today only earned 2nd place being posted to Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich.  It should be noted that Kuzie also had a (2) stroke penalty for hitting the wrong ball on hole #2.   First place honors goes to Noi Taylor posting a fantastic round of (45) points.  It appears that Noi’s game is steadily improving as she has been in the winners circle a number of time in the past few weeks.   Hats off to today’s winners and their great scores! Lanna, 11.08.14

Seventeen CMSG teed off at Lanna on a competition of Match play against the courses itself . But only fifteen completed the round. Wet condition, re occurring injury and mental break down all lead to a tough day at Lanna. Sounds like the 96th PGA Championship that was played over the weekend. Lanna did live up to it being a tough golf course and opponent in Match play. As it was no one actually beat the course, but in this case a tie was as good as a win. Peter Brown come in with a score zero, yes that’s right a zero to take first place. Peter won as many holes as did the course so it was a tie. Gary Walker and Kim Stogner tied for second with a score of minus 3 (-3). That’s right the course beat them by three holes. Looking over the sore cards in actual Match play only one golfer would have made it to the eighteenth hole and that would have been Peter. Congratulation to peter and all the other golfers that came close.

This Friday we had (23) members participating in a Stableford Nassau competition at Maejo.  We teed off both the #1 and #10 tee boxes on schedule and under partly cloudy skies.   As our round progressed the weather turned to the hot side but luckily we had constant light breezes coupled with sporadic cloud cover. Relative to the results Tom Berger took the overall honors with (36) stableford points.  Dizzy Reeve, in the winners circle again, won the front nine with (21) points.  We had a tie for the back nine being shared by Gary Cooke and Nigel Stubbs both posting a score of (19) points.  Hats off to today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Today’s Winners:  Nigel, Tom, Dizzy & Cary

Also it should be re-enforced to all our members to always abide by the requests of the Maejo staff; regardless if you agree or not!  Rumor has it that one of the current Maejo starters has stated that she will not allow the GMSG to tee off from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes in the future.  The reason for this  is based on one of our groups, making the turn and proceeding to the #1 tee box, not following her requests to let a different group play first.  As stated, in the future please abide by the Maejo starters request and again regardless if you agree or not!   We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday August 13th where the format will be Stableford with a scheduled tee-off time of 8:00 AM

Mae Jo, 06.08.14

Today we had a total of 25 members playing Matchplay against the course. The weather was very cooperative with a solid overcast and only a few light showers it was a very pleasant temperature. We had 4 groups going of Tee # 1 and 3 groups off Tee # 10. The front groups were slowed down for the most part of their front nine by a ONE BALL (yes only one Player playing only one Ball). The groups playing of the back had a quick first 9 holes but were slowed down by some groups starting of number one in front of them. Todays Tee off order was determined by the order of arrival. Some voiced their concerns about this format due to the difficulty of that format. But the result showed that nearly 50% of all players today played the course at Even or better. As to the final results, the run away Winner was with +5 Graham Adams, three players tied for second place with a +2, Jeff Crostwhaite, Yung Beece and Frank Schwarz (Sorry no picture) Congratulation to all Winners. See you all on Friday for a Stableford Nassau. The Result list below shows you the relevant Scores for the Handicap purposes only.

Lanna, 04.08.14

On a very muggy Monday morning 17 CMSG headed out for a fun day  of stoke competition on Lanna’s number 3 & 1 courses. As always golfers in stoke play most play to their handicap or close to it to win. Maybe it was the humidity being so high that most golfers didn’t do so well or was that just me that felt the heat. Paul Coppen was the only golfer to have a net score under par which was a 71 to take first place. Keith Freeman was next with a 72 to take second place. John Barrett took third with a 73 OPPS sorry John the computer says you had a 74 so you tied with Bob Green for third. Way to go guys. Next week at Lanna it will be a Match play competition, your opponent  will be the Lanna golf Courses and it should be fun.

Lanna, 28.07.14.

The numbers were low at Lanna only 13 True CMSG came out on a very nice day to play golf. Maybe it was the rain the night before and it looked like it might rain some more but never did. Or was it just it that a few of our golfers are out of the country at this time of year. I’ve been told that golf has only been called off because of rain two or three times in the past ten years, so there no real reason not to come out just because it looks like it might rain. With the courses being on the wet side one would think the scoring would be on the low side and they were. Two golfers tied for second place with 34 points. Mr. Yukio Doi who just returned from a four month absent showed us he was still in his good golfing form, welcome back Mr. Doi and Peter Brown. Peter took second pla, OPPce by count back by one point. Our winner of the day Lennart Larsson with 41 points showing us that even in wet condition you can score high. Congratulation to our winners. Next week at Lanna will be stroke competition on courses 3&1 so come on out and test your golfing skills in stroke play.

Mae Jo, 25.07.14

Today we had (22) members teeing off this morning for another round of golf at Maejo. All our groups had to start on the front nine due to the course being booked later on as numerous professional golfers were getting in some practice rounds prior to next week’s Singha Chiang Mai Open tournament. The (2) young pros who teed off right before our 1st group slowed down the pace of play substantially subsequently taking us more than 4-1/2 hours to complete our rounds. In addition, making it worse was that we played under sunny skies making it extremely hot golf day. Today the competition was Stableford Nassau and taking 1st place honors with another stellar performance was Dizzy Reeve scoring (41) points. The front nine goes to our birthday girl “Noi Taylor” with (21) points. We had a 3-way tie on the back nine all with (21) points each being shared by Harry Nieuwland, Mike Reeve, and Richard Brown. Richard Brown whose overall score was (40) points but had to share in the back nine winnings took home a total of 200 baht – sorry Richard. Hats off to all of today’s winners. Also it should be mentioned that Sam Torr playing on a non GMSG match day made his first ever hole-in-one on the 17th hole at Maejo.  Congratulations Sam! ???????????????????????????????

Todays winners:  Noi , Richard, Dizzy, Mike, Harry

Our next match is scheduled on August 6, 2014 as the Singha Chiang Mai Open is schedule the previous week. The format will be “Match Play Against the Course” with our standard tee-off time of 8:00 AM.

A complete August “Weekly Events Calendar” will be posted in the near future

Our groups started their round from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes under overcast skies coupled with light breezes making it an ideal day for golf.   Today we also celebrated a belated birthday for Yung Beece and the future birthday of Noi Taylor. A delicious cake was shared by all the players who attended lunch at the Caddy Shack! Relative to the competition Rob Grootenhuijs took first place honors with a fantastic score of (45) stableford points. Our 2nd place winner was Dizzy Reeve continuing her steady performance by scoring (38) points. Last but not least, 3rd place was won by Frank Schwarz posting (37) points. Hats off to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Lanna, 21.07.14

Under cloudy skies and with a little breeze that made it a great day to get out and play golf. 16 hardy CMSG were out on the number 1&2 courses at Lanna in a 2 man Best Ball Stableford competition. The kicker was that the teams would be randomly picked after the completion of the match. As it was the team scoring was very good with just about every team sores being in the forties. The team of Peter Hadden and John Barrett had 44 points to take third place. Once again we had a tie at the top for first place with two teams each having 47 points with the outcome being decided by count back. After the count back the team of Roscoe Butler and Lister Twigden took second place leaving the team of Kim Stogner and Terry Redding in first place. It would not be right not to mention the great game Roscoe had as an individual with a high of 44 points. Way to go Roscoe and congratulation to out winners. Lanna golf bid farewell to Barry O and Hok as they are headed back to Canada for a few weeks. Have a safe trip and we’ll see you in September. That sounds like an old song from the sixties if your that old to remember it.

This Friday we had only (12) members teeing off at Maejo. The low turn-out is attributed to many of our members golfed-out due to playing at our monthly away match at Green Valley the day before. All (3) four-somes teed off from the #1 tee box under overcast skies coupled with light breezes making it another ideal day for golf. There was minimal play at the course today so all our groups completed their respective rounds in approx. (4) hours. The scheduled 2-man team best ball was changed to Stableford Nassau due to the low number of players. Taking overhaul honors with (37) points was Frank Schwarz. The front nine went to Captain Jack Kuzina who won by default with (18) measly points. The default win was based on Dizzy Reeve also scoring (37) points but did not enter into the competition today. Our handicapper, Harry Nieuwland won the back nine with (21) points. Harry’s game did not go wayward during his recent junket to the Philippines’ as he worked out daily doing various sorts of golf exercises coupled with numerous relaxation therapy sessions similar to yoga. ???????????????????????????????

Lanna, 07.07.2014

Under cloudy skies which soon turned to a little rain didn’t stop 18 CMSG and 1 guest from a good round of stroke competition golf at Lanna. Our guest today was Jimmy a friend of Smileys from England. It looks like he’ll be around for awhile and will becoming a member of our society in the near future. Even with a little rain it didn’t stop some golfers from having their usual good round of golf. As it was Richard Massey had a gross 107 with a net 73 to take third. Peter Brown with a gross 94 and net 72 came in second. Our winner of the day with a gross 99 and net 70 was Barry “O”. Congratulation to all our winners. Just a reminder that all you golfers are responsible for the scores that are turned in on your score card. So make sure you check your cards to make sure they are correct. There will be no golf at Lanna next Monday, July 14th another Thai holiday. So see you all on the 21st of July  at Lanna.
