Scramble September – Gold Canyon

On Thursday, September 25, 2014 we had a total of 56 Players starting in the 3rd Scramble of the year. All teams arrived on time. When we left Chiang Mai in the morning it was raining heavily but as closer we came to the Golf Course as dryer it got. The Course received obviously some rain in the early morning but was in a very good shape, thanks you Khun Gavin and his crew.

Ashley Kim Sing slipped and hit his head on the concrete border of the side of the cart path near the Putting area just before the scheduled Tee time, but thank’s to a well equipped Medical Kit by the Golf Course he was able to proceed to play only with some Gaze on his head. A special Thank you goes out to Dizzy Reeve who applied first aid and took care of the cut on Ashley’s head.

Today we reinforced the slow play rule by asking all groups that if they fall behind the group in front of the them with one hole empty between these groups that this team has to have the following team to play through. If the rule was not applied than a two stroke penalty would be applied for each hole the rule was ignored. Subsequently we had groups playing through and the pace was good for everyone. I wan to thank all participants for honoring this rule.

After the round, I only received positive feed back about the course the format as well the “fun” everyone had. And that is what this is about. It is not about the winnings or payouts, it is about the fun and the sharing this with others.

We had on all 4 Par 3 the closest to the Pin contest, and the Winners are:

Competition Rules for SCRAMBLE

Each team consists of four players. All players can tee off at each hole. The nominated team captain then selects the best drive and marks the position with a tee peg (not nearer the hole). The other players then retrieve their balls. A minimum of three tee drives (only par 4 and par 5) per player is to be used. The second shot and third (and so on) can be hit by all players. The players play within a score card distance of the tee-peg (not nearer the hole). Note! Golf balls shall be placed on closely mown areas and dropped if the chosen ball in play is in the rough or a hazard (one penalty shot). Par 3’s are played by all Team members and do not count as Drives. The above method of play is followed until the green is reached. On the green the same method applies. The chosen ball is marked and players putt from the same spot in turn. Each player must mark the ball after putting. Play continues -from each chosen position until the ball is holed. If a player misses the Putt and taps it in without giving his team members a chance to putt than this is the final score. The score is the total number of shots from the chosen spots (including the tee shot). As for the Score calculation, the combined Handicap of all 4 players will be divided by 8 and that will be the team Handicap (numbers will be rounded up and down with .5 being the decider). If a team consist of only 3 players the divider in 6 and each player must have at least 4 drives counted for the team. At the end of the round the total for each hole is added together and the strokes received subtracted to give the total net medal score for the round. The winning team will be the one with the lowest net score. All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play”. Rule 14.2. (assistance) will be ignored for the Club Scramble.
