Match Reports January to March 2015

Lanna, 30.03.15

15 CMSG and 1 guest headed out at Lanna this Monday morning under clear shies for a change, you could even see the mountains too. Format for the day was Stableford just plain old Stableford. All groups made it in under four hours which made it nice to relax and socialize after the match.

Scoring was good lots of scores in the mid to high 30’s. Robert McPhee took third place with a score 37 points. Barry Ochitwa came in second with 39 points. Edging out Barry to take first place was Terry Redding with 40 points. Congratulation to our winners.

There will be NO golf at Lanna next week or the week after that because of Thai Holidays. That’s the first two Mondays in April. Some of the Lanna golfers will be getting together at Sand Creek on the 6th of April for a fun Stableford Match. Tee time 8:30, so if you would like to join them be at Sand Creek by 8:00 am.

STABLEFORD

Alright, I’ll hang around a little while longer since no one has formally called for my resignation. But you ALL are on probation! Ha!

A hardy 16 members posted today at Mae Jo on a beautiful, crystal clear morning. Downtown Chiang Mai was completely visible form #14 tee today. Even 2 of yesterdays’ winning International team joined us.

The last round of March found no birdies on #2 or #12 so the prize pot continues to build. Next month holes #5 and #15 will be the designated birdie holes. Should get interesting.

So, pictured below finishing in 3rd place alone was Adam Jackson with 38 points.

Tied for 1st with 40 points, also pictured below were Nigel Stubbs and our own President, Frank Schwarz, with 40 points.

Well done, guys! Congrats to all. April’s events schedule will be posted this week end.

Cheers!

2 MAN BEST BALL COMBINED BLIND DRAW

Again, FIRE THE CAPTAIN!!! WHY DOESN’T ANYONE RESPOND?

A light turnout for above referenced competition. 15 members posted. Was it The International the following day or perhaps a premonition that this format would prove to be unpopular? I now believe it was the latter. Rest assured this format will be permanently retired under my watch.

Now to the results:

Finishing in 2nd place with a combined stableford total of 68 points were Adam Jackson and Roger Mack. Adam’s eagle on #16 certainly helped.

Taking 1st place with a total of 70 points were Nigel Stubbs and Lennart Larsen.

No birdies on #2 or #12 so the prize grows for Friday’s Straight Stableford comp.

The winners are pictured below along with Ulrich who played his last round with us. He heads back to Vancouver for the next several months.

Congratulations to the lucky teams.

See you Friday?

The numbers where low this morning at Lanna just ten golfers showed up to play. Why the low numbers? Who knows, maybe the weather or maybe the away game later in the week. You know cost is always a factor when it come to playing golf. Our ten CMSG all had fun I think with two person best ball Stableford format of the day. Because of the low numbers it was decided to give out only two prizes, first and second. Second place went to the team of Ralph Hamilton and Barry Ochitwa with 43 points. First place went to the team of Keith Freeman and Lawrence Nahlik with 44 points. Congratulation to our winners.

If you think that’s all there is your wrong!! We had an ACE today a HOLE IN ONE on the ten hole. Ralph Hamilton using his trusty nine iron nailed it for his first ever HOLE IN ONE. Way to go Ralph and congratulations.

Next week at Lanna we’ll be back to just plan old Stableford Competition so come on out and see if you can match Ralphs HOLE IN HOLE on number ten.

STABLEFORD NASSAU

Sh*t can the Captain! It’s Saturday evening the 21st as I post the above referenced match results.

Other than not being able to see the mountain or even see past the Mae Jo property again we had 25 members come out.

Also, we say good bye to Tom Berger for at least 8 months as he’s off to East Africa on another project. Good Luck, Tom!

Now for the results:

Taking the prize for the front 9 with 21 points were Calvin Davis and Jeffrey Himel.

Winning the back 9 with 25 points was Noi Taylor.

Overall winner, Adam Jackson with 39 points.

We had 2 birdies today on #2 and #12 by Adam, Graham Adams.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends and hope to see most of you next Wednesday for a 2 man blind draw stableford comp.

STROKE PLAY NET COMPETITION

Oh well! Couldn’t quite make it 3 in row for same day match report. Fire the captain!

Today saw 25 members and 1 guest post for the above referenced comp.

Taking 3rd place with a very respectable net 71 was Ric Cameron.

2nd place with an even better net 69 was Mike Mason ( camera shy? ).

All alone in 1st place and with a birdie on #12 to boot was Yung Beece with a blistering net 67.

Pranee Buckley also birdied #2 to split that prize with Yung.

2 members, Jeff Crosthwaite and Kazuo Mitsunaga, played their last rounds for a while. Bon Voyage to Jeff as he heads over to the Philippines and Sayonara to Kazuo who is returning to Japan for 30 days of consecutive golf in his homeland. Whew!!! That’s a lot of total caddie hours to book!!

Congratulations to our winners pictured below and see you Friday for Stableford Nassau.

Lanna, 16.03.15

On a very hazy morning at Lanna  20 CMSG where out on the course for a round of Stableford Nassau Competition. Most group made it around in about four hours, not bad for Lanna. Fairways where good and the greens are coming around after being air rated a few weeks ago and by next week they should be back to top form once more.

Lots of good scores on the front and back nine and a three way tie for the total high point score. Mark Morris, Julian Wing and Lawrence Nahlik all had 38 points. Lawrence won out on count back with his very high score of 24 points on the back nine to take the overall high point score. Since only one prize per person can be awarded the back nine went to Mike Mason who manage to get 20 points. Once again Mark and Julian found themselves in a count back situation for the front nine both having 19 points. This time Mark won out to take the front nine which was only fitting since this was his last Monday golf game before heading back to England later in the week. Also heading home to Canada is Gary Burke. have a safe trip home guys and we’ll see you later in the year when you return to Chiang Mai. By the way Congratulation to our winners.

Next week at Lanna it’ll be Two person best ball Stableford Competition so pick your partner or they’ll be picked for you.

Sorry no photos of the winners this week, camera is in Bali.

You asked for it, you got it. Same day match reports now twice in sonrow.

25 members posted today for straight stableford competition and overall scoring was pretty good.

Finishing in a tie for 4th with 36 points were Nigel Stubbs and Jim Hopkins.

Tied for 2nd with 37 points were Pung Bacchi ( not pictured ) and Graham Adams with 37 points.

Finishing 1st alone with the aid of an eagle on #16 was Bob Green with a strong 39 points.

We had 2 birdies on #2 today and that prize was split between Pung and Nigel.

New pot begins with next Wednesday’s stroke play comp.

MATCH PLAY NET VS. PAR

25 Members and 3 guests ( John, Mike & Tom ) arrived on a nice sunny/hazy morning to take on old man par today at Mae Jo.

After the smoke cleared ( pardon the pun ), 4 golfers managed to beat par and they were:

Jeff Crosthwaite and Nigel Stubbs with +1 good for a tie 3rd

Craig Morriss at +2 for 2nd all alone and in 1st place with +3 was Tom Berger. Congrats to all the winners.

No birdies on #2 or #12, however, several were made today on non designated holes so the prize will carry over to Friday’s stableford competition.

One of our regulars, Gordon Langtry, departs with his family for Vancouver tomorrow and played his last round until late September. Bon Voyage, Gordon, and best of luck with the store.

See the rest of you Friday!

Lanna  09.03.15

On a very hazy morning and that just might be an understatement. You couldn’t even see the jets that had just taken off from the airport, you could hear them but couldn’t see them. As for your golf ball they were hard to see too past a hundred years at least for me but then what else is new.

25 CMSG didn’t let the haze stop them from heading out at Lanna for our Monday morning Stableford Competition. The haze didn’t stop the good scoring ether. Keith Taylor took third place with 39 points, which might have been good enough for first place, but not today.  Ralph Hamilton came in with a very 41 points to take second. But that still wasn’t good enough to beat Gary Lyon who had a very good round taking first place with 43 points. Congratulation to our winners.

Next week at Lanna at Lanna the competition will be Stableford Nassau so come on out and see if you can top Gary’s 43 points.

STABLEFORD NASSAU

Well after not having to fly solo today, the results at the caddie shack were calculated accurately. Whew!!!

Anyway, today saw 25 members and 4 guests join the fray for a stableford nassau competition.

After the round was complete 23 cards were returned out of 25 and the winners were as follows:

Winning the front 9 with 19 points- Ric Cameron

Taking the back 9 with the same score- Craig Morris

Winning the overall after getting used to his new green’s speed was Nigel Stubbs with a solid 40 points.

The winners are pictured below and congrats to all!

Oh and the birdie pool carryover from February 25th went to Adam Jackson who birdied #12. Well done. ( Tom Rowand birdied #2 but was not present ).

BLACK WEDNESDAY II

Although the scoring this Wednesday was back to CMSG standards it was still a bit of a challenge for your captain as he had failed to update his drop box prior to creating today’s scoring results spreadsheet. If you weren’t there today, you missed quite a show!!! LOL!

So, after there being 2 different winners prior to the official results, below are the final official results in today’s Stableford Competition.

Finishing in 3rd place with 36 points- Yours’ Truly ( would have traded it for an updated score sheet any day! )

2nd place was Ric Cameron with  37 points.

And in 1st place alone after being tied for 2nd in the prior 2 tries at results was Jim Hopkins with 38 points.

Congratulations to the 1st and 2nd place finishers and shame on the guy in 3rd.

A birdie was made on #12 by Jeff Crosthwaite, however, that money rolled over to Friday as you must be at the caddie shack to collect.

*One bright spot to report. The greens are now being cut .5 cm higher and the difference was night and day. A special note of thanks to Nigel Stubbs who played with Khun Chalermpol last Friday and suggested to him by demonstration the severity and harshness the greens had attained these last few months. Kudos, Nigel, from all of us!!

Lanna 02.03.15

On a very smoggy or was it smoky morning, which isn’t anything new for this time of year in Chiang Mai. One of our golfer said it was all caused by an inversion layer in the valley and we all know what that is, right. Anyway at Lanna today for our first of the month stroke play competition we had 18 CMSG that weren’t afraid of stroke play competition or the Lanna number three course. The format of the day was Strike 3 Stroke competition and as always it take a little longer at the end of competition to come up with the winners. But all had fun  while waiting for the results. In the end of it all there was some very good scores, most in the fifties that’s net fifties and a few in the sixties. Mike Mason took third with a low net of 55 just edging out Mark M. and Allan G. who both had a low net of 56, but just not low enough to beat Mike. Robert McPhee who we hadn’t seen for some time came in second with a low net of 53. And who says that our CMSG ladies can’t play golf, for J J Walker showed us all that Lanna isn’t all that hard by taking first place with a low net of 51, way to go J J.  Congratulation to our winners.

Next week at Lanna we’ll be back to just plan old Stableford competition, so come on out and see how many points you can score against the Lanna Golf Course.

NET MATCH PLAY VS. PAR

Considering today’s round followed an away game, we still had 21 golfers show up, 3 of whom were guests. Thanks to Beau, John and Philby for joining us and we hope to see you again in the near future.

It must have been in the air or water all week because, again, scoring was particularly mediocre group wise.

Finishing in a 3 way tie for 2nd today with old man par winning at -1 was Jack Kuzina, Keith Taylor and Gordon Langtry.

Taking 1st place all alone at all square was Graham Adams.

Congratulations to all the war of attrition winners.

NO Birdies on #8 or #17 so the pool is growing.

See you next Wednesday for straight stableford competition.

BLACK WEDNESDAY STABLEFORD

30 members and one guest, Graham Adams’ brother, Beau, began today’s format @ Mae Jo. Considering that we have an away game tomorrow at Gold Canyon, today’s turnout was particularly strong. The golf, however, was NOT!!! Was everyone saving up their A games for tomorrow?

Tied for 3rd place with a resounding 31 points were: Ric Cameron, Yung Beece and Adam Jackson.

Tied for 1st with a blistering 32 points were Jeff Crosthwaite and Natee Chantaravirod.

Lennart Larson also had 31 points but had enough sense to go straight home ( Just Kidding, Lennart! ).

On a day that will be known forever as Black Wednesday one would not have expected the field to make birdies at either #8 or #17 and the field did not disappoint. That prize appropriately carries over to Friday.

Come on out Friday for net match play vs. par and try this golf thing one more time.

Even the winner’s photo came out dark.

15 members joint today’s Stableford format. With almost 5 hours the course played rather slow today. Even though there where less groups on the tee today than in recent weeks before. I guess the neighbors from Japan were taking their time. On hole # 14 all our four groups where together again.

Scoring was well for some of us. The first place with 41 Stabelford points was taken by Keith Freeman, in second place with a respectable 39 points was Julian Wing and with 37 points in third place was Gordon Langtry.

Congratulations to all winners.

With 26 members and three guests we teed off on # 1 and # 10 in blind drawn teams to day for a Stableford Nassau. It was another cool start into the day which warmed up a lot by the time we finished. Most of the groups finished in about 4 1/2 hours with the usual quicker front nine and than a dramatically slowed back. However we all know that the high season is coming to an end soon.

The Scoring was okay today with a total of 15 Birdies between all players. The important once for the Birdie Holes were made on Hole # 17 by Lennart Larsson and Kazuo Mitsunaga. Well done guys, we all know it is not an easy one. No Birdie on # 8 today.

The Overall Winner was Noi Taylor with 38 Stableford points, the front 9 winner was Michael Kuzmich (Kuzie) with a very good 24 Stableford points and the back nine was won by Lennart Larsson with a respectable 20 points.

Congratulations to all Winners and thanks for all the members who came out today.

It was very cold at Lanna this morning but that didn’t stop 24 CMSG and 5 guest from heading out on the course for Stableford Nassau competition. As always it warmed up as we knew it would. With the sun coming out from behind the clouds and warming the morning up so was the scoring warming up. By days end we had a lot of points in the mid to high thirties. Since it was Nassau competition, you know high front nine and high back nine with a total overall for the eighteen hole.

Mike Mason took the front nine with 21 points. Gordon Langtry did even better on the back nine with 23 points to take the back nine. Bob Green prove that being consistent with 20 points on the front and back nine for a total of 40 points to take the high total for the eighteen holes.  Congratulation to our winners.

Next week at Lanna we’ll be back to just Stablrford Competition just to keep things easy since I’ll be gone, so have fun and I’ll see you all in two weeks.

2 Man Best Ball Net Nassau Blind Draw

Perhaps the busiest format we have attempted to date but I think everyone had fun with it.

We started with 28 golfers today including one guest of Jim Hopkins. 26 ended up in the blind draw at days’ end as one of Wednesday’s winners, Stuart Duncan, had to w/d with back issues. Feel better soon, Stuart.

So, winning the front nine with a best ball net 30 was Kim Anderson and Gerry Brimacombe. Winning the back, also with a best ball net 30 was Ric Cameron and Richard Brown. Taking the overall prize with a net 56 was Anton Buijs and in his last round with us for while, Somsak Hendricks. FYI, you will see that this score translates to 52 points under our Stableford scoring. Pretty strong, guys!!! And to think you didn’t even know it was happening until you had 30+ minutes to visit with your fellow golfers at the shack!

The birdie pool was also claimed today by Frank Schwarz and Somsak with 3’s at #8. Pool starts over next week.

Another highlight included Gerry making eagle 2 on #5!!! Obviously helped in securing the front. Good job, Gerry.

Congratulations to all the winners pictured below.

Have a great weekend, guys, and hope to see most of you next Wednesday for another straight stableford event.

Oh and bon voyage, Harry! He will be returning to Thailand late March.

Sorry to all for tardy report but lost internet last night. Back on line now so let’s get to it.

Straight Stableford was the format and 4 of the 25 participants finished the day 35 points or better.

Tied for 3rd with 35 points- Jim Hopkins and Yung Beece

Coming in 2nd with 36 points- Stuart Duncan and alone in 1st place with 38 points was Rob Grootenhuijs.

Congratulations to all the winners pictured below.

* No birdies were recorded on #8 or #17 so the pool is finally growing.*

Join us on Friday for the 2 man net blind draw format. Should be interesting!

Note: Guys, we are almost through the high season and the occasional delays that happen on our crossovers should diminish going forward. In any case, please refrain from directly approaching the starters during play. It is disrespectful and counter productive. Let a committee member know of the circumstances after that day’s round has been completed and we can address the issue through proper channels. Thanking all in advance for your understanding and co operation.

Lanna, 09.02.15

We had a good turnout at Lanna once more with 22 golfers headed out for a fun game of Stableford competition. Once more it was on the slow side because of the high season golfers that come to Chiang Mai because of the good golfing weather. So much so that our two lead three ball group decided to become a six ball group. It made no different playing as a six ball for they still had to wait at every tee box for the seasonal players to move on.  Enough said!!

Even with the slow play we had some good scores. Lots of mid-thirties with only one golfer running away to win with a high of 39 points. At 36 points we had a try once more for second place between David US and Gordon Langtry. With our count back system working well David took second by two strokes, leaving Gordon to take third place. Our run away first place winner with 39 points was Barry Ochitwa, way to go Barry. Congratulation to the winners.

Next week at Lanna our competition will be Stableford Nassau so come on out and see if you can beat 39 points for your total high points for eighteen holes of fun golf.

MATCH PLAY against the course/ Net vs. Par

Well old man par wore most of us down today at Mae Jo. 28 golfers teed off this morning under partly cloudy skies with 25 of those in the competition. Carts  were relegated to 90 degrees so lift clean and place was implemented for today’s match.

Only 5 players bested par and they are all pictured below.

In a 4th place tie with +1 were Richard Brown & Michael Kuzmich

Tied for 2nd place with +2 were Bart Kendricks and Harry Nieuwland

All alone in 1st with +3 was Jim Hopkins.

Congratulations to all the winners!

*No birdies were made today on #8 or #17 so the pool carries over to next Wednesday where the format returns to straight Stableford.*

**** Note:

Please communicate the lift clean and place decision to your fellow players when you are informed with your cards at the staging area. Despite our 3 announcements today, some players were not aware of the decision until well into their rounds. No one has ever accused me of having an inaudible voice but a couple of players were still uninformed. Thanks!

Number of golfers where on the low side this morning at Lanna and I sure it was because of something called the Super Bowl on the tube this morning.  That didn’t stop 19 CMSG from coming out and having some fun at stroke competition, but this time it didn’t start out on the race track course, effect we never saw that course today instead we play our competition on the number 1 & 2 courses which made some of the golfers happy. I’ll be checking with the office to get our schedule back on track. Scoring was on the low side for the most part the one was under par with their net score. We did have a three way try for first place. Julian Wing, Allan Gariano and Inge Billman all came in with a even par net 72. Julian won out on count back to take first place out right. Inge took second and Allan took third after all the count back was over. Congratulation to our winners.

Lanna, 26.01.15

Monday morning saw 28, 24 of them CMSG take advantage of some great golfing weather to have a little fun at Lanna. Competition was changed at the last minute  to just plain old Stableford Competition rather than 2 person best ball just to make it easier for the old Lanna Captain. Play was a little slow but not like last week but that’s just the way it  goes during the high season.

Scoring was back in the mid-thirties once more. We did have a four way try at third place with Allen Norris, Mike Pattavina ( Mae Jo new Captain), Gordon Langtry and Lawrence Nahlik all with 33 points. With the count back system working well Allen beat out all the rest by one point to take third place. Sorry to say we won’t be hearing Allen’s name for a while since he’s headed back to the states for some snow skiing, sounds cold to me. Have a safe trip back home my friend and we’ll see you later in the year. Second place went to Allan Gariano with 35 points, now that’s a name we haven’t heard for some time in the winner’s circle. First place with 37 points went to Ralph Hamilton a name that seem to be in the top three quite often. Congratulation to our winners.

Next week it’ll be back to stroke play at Lanna, playing on the race track course and the number one course as always so come on out and test your golf skills.

Today we had 26 players of whom 25 were in the competition because Bart Hendricks had to pick up his better half from the airport and played only 9 holes. Weather was fine and we tee-off with 4 groups off the front and 3 off the back.

We had two rules issues : Keith Taylor teed-off with 16 clubs in his bag and was penalized 2 strokes for the first two holes he played (maximum of 4 strokes overall, rule 4-4 ). The committee would like to express her gratitude to Kuzie for bringing it to the attention of the committee otherwise the Welsh man would have won it again including all the money. Stuart Duncan picked up a moving ball on the green played by Harry Nieuwland from outside the green and got penalized 1 stroke under rule 19-1. The committee made a mistake by doing so because actually there is a 2 stroke penalty under rule 1-2. Now we can disqualify the committee or Stuart. Any suggestions are welcome.

Today’s winner was Lennart Larsson with 39 Stableford points. Second came Keith Taylor and Stuart Duncan both with 38 points. Well done guys!!

The committee and all the members wish Mike Reeve a quick recovery from his minor attack and hope to see him soon on the course again! Thanks Ted for keeping us informed.

Stuart Duncan, Lennart Larsson, Keith Taylor.

These are today’s winners of the competition. If you can guess right who is who seen from the backside, there is an extra price put at the disposal by the committee .

Next Friday 23-01-2015 there is a two ball better ball (Stableford) assigned by the committee.

Lanna, 19.01.15

At Lanna today we had 26 golfers 23 members and 3 guest and with a little luck the 3 will become members of our golfing Sociality. It was a little slow today or let’s say a lot slower than normal. The front nine went okay but at the turn it was all down hill from there. Who’s fault was it who knows but at the turn there must have been 4 groups of Northern Islanders (Japanese) or whoever they were waiting to tee off.  Five and a half hours after teeing off we all made it in and glad it was over with too.

The day’s competition was Stableford Nassau and even with the slow play we had some good scores. Gary Lyon and Richard Roehl lead the way with the high scoring on both the front and back nine and the overall high score as well. With our count back system took the front nine with 20 points. Prajat Bacchi took the back nine with 18 points. Like I said Gary and Richard lead the way on high scoring with 37 points for the both of them but Richard won out on the count back to take the overall point total. Richard had 23 points on the back side but can only receive one prize and that’s why Prajat got the back nine. Congratulation to our winners.

Next week at Lanna it’ll be two person best ball Stableford, so come on out and prove your worth.

Stableford Nassau

Under a covered sky with nice moderated temperatures with a pretty big turnout of 29 players in the competition, 1 guest and 1 member (Somsak) playing for his 4th Handicap card, we had 4 groups playing of hole 1 and 4 playing of hole 10. In about 4 hours or a little bit more we all finished and arrived at about the same time at the caddy schack.

Mike Pattavina was elected yesterday at the AGM as captain of the MaeJo competition and he went very smooth through all the duties, great job Mike!

Dizzy Reeve was the overall winner. Mike Reeve was the winner of the front 9 with 23 points and Kazu Mitsunaga the winner of the back with 22 points.

Congratulations to all of today’s winners.

Jack Kuzina was second on the front but first in the money. Gerry Brimacome and Jeff Crosswaithe were second on the back but first in the money.

This Wednesday at Maejo we had (25) members teeing off on a somewhat cool morning and competing in a Stableford competition. The weather remained cool through out our round under overcast skies coupled with a few rays of sunshine. We teed-off from  both the front nine and the back nine with Maejo Starter asking us not to play too fast or we would all be held up at the turn after (9) holes. Seems strange when golfers are requested to play slow. However  the groups starting off the front nine made the turn without any delays with most groups completing their respective rounds under 4-1/2 hours.

As far as the Stableford competition results Adam Jackson took 1st place honors with (39) points. Ken Nalder came in 2nd place with (38) points followed by Dao Beece taking 3rd place with (36) points. Congratulations to all of today’s winners!

Today’s Winners:  Ken , Dao, & Adam

As a notice to the Maejo golfers I was informed by Kun Tum that for the next (2) months call holes are in effect for all of the Par 3 holes.  I realize that the majority of our members do not prefer to play call holes and also are under the opinion that it does not speed up play but, by not abiding by this high season policy the caddies may be given a weeks holiday without pay.  Hard to comprehend that we are told to play slow at tee-off time, then asked to abide by the call hole policy, in order  to speed up play. Go figure. Regardless, we should abide by the course policy and not risk any of our caddies getting penalized!

In closing we ask that all members who are in the area attend Thursday’s (January 15, 2015) AGM meeting starting at 6:00 pm at Gymkhana golf course.

Lanna, 12.01.15

On what turned  out to be cool or should I say cold and windy morning at Lanna 16 CMSG and 3 guest went out on Lanna to brave the cold wind to play a fun round of Stableford Competition Golf. Even though it warmed up a little and just a little all golfers made it around in good time in spite of a slow group in front of the our first group of golfers. With the weather being on the cold side so was the scoring. Don’t know if it was the wind or just being cold but no one really had a good round of golf as you can see by the scores. David U-S and Ralph Hamilton both had 32 points to tie for third. David for ones won out on count back to take third. We also had a tie for first at 33 points between Mark Morris and Bob Green. Bob won that count back so Mark ended up in seconded leaving Bob to take first place. Congratulation to our winners and to all our hardly golfers that don’t let a little cold weather stop them from enjoying a fun round of golf.

Next week at Lanna it’ll be Stableford Nassau so come on out and with a little luck it’ll be warmer.DSCF5225

Mae Jo, 09.01.2015

This Friday we had one of the lowest turn-outs of the year as the start of a 2-3 days monsoon hit the Chiang Mai area the previous evening.   We did have (12) brave heart members and (1) guest that ignored the rainy and wet conditions to participate in a Stableford competition.   At tee-off time the rain diminished to a light drizzle and over the first few holes  at various times completely stopped for 5-10 minutes before starting again.  As the round progressed the off and on drizzle conditions changed to a steady increasing rain for our final few holes.  Needless to state we played “Lift-Clean & Place” as the fairways were completely saturated with water.  Also, due to groups ahead of us it took more than 4-1/2 hours to complete our respective rounds under less than ideal weather for golf.  Regardless, all the players survived the conditions and made it down to the “Caddy Shack” for lunch and various drinks.

Relative to the results Shanes James is getting back in the groove and took first place honors with (35) points.  2nd place today went to Michael ( Kuzie) Kuzmich posting a score of (33) points.  Third place today was shared by Ric Cameron and Frank Schwarz both scoring (30) points.  Hats off to today’s winners!

Today’s Winners:  Frank, Kuzie, Ric & Shane

We also would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest member Somsak Hendricks who joined our society today.  Somsak should be a steady and positive influence for his dad Bart.

We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday January 14, 2015 for another Stableford competition and another early morning 7:00 am tee-off.

Mae Jo, 07.01.2015

Nassau Stableford

Another large turn out as (31) members participated in a Nassau Stableford competition this Wednesday at Maejo.  Due to the number of golfers today we had (9) groups teeing off from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes which is (1) group more than our allotment.  As usual the weather was ideal with cool temperatures in the morning and slowly warming up throughout our respective round.   Again, most of the groups completed their round of golf in 4.5 hours or less.  Also, because of  this high season the starters at Maejo are putting groups out off the back nine holes regardless if we are making the turn from the ninth hole to the tenth.  Essentially, we have to grin and bear these types of delays for the next month or so.

Relative to the competition taking “Overall” honors with a fantastic score of (42) points was Big Mike Pattavina.  The front nine winner today with (22) points was Ram Taylor with Jack Kuzina winning the back nine with (19) points.  Congratulations goes out to today’s winners!

Also while some of the members were enjoying a few beers the Caddy Shack were undertaking some improvements by extending the existing floor as shown in the following photo:

Continual Improvements to make our luncheons more enjoyable!

We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday, January 9, 2015 where the format will be “Match Play against the Course” with another early 7:00 AM start.

Lanna, 05.01.2015

19 CMSG and 1 brand new member making it 20 CMSG where out on the Lanna courses for a good game of Stroke Competition this Monday morning with a new twist. We had to tee off on the number 1 courses instead of the number 3 like always, that started changed it on us but no big deal so off we went.

Scoring was good lots of low net scores in the 70’s. Berry O took first place with a good net score of 70. Ralph Hamilton was close behind with a net 72 to take second. Once again we had a three way try for third at 73 which Mike Mason won out on the count back to take third. Congratulation to our winners.

We welcome back Shane James after a long absent, good to have you back Shane. Our new member is Benjamin Cunningham for the great state of Texas. That’s in the U.S. of A. for you that don’t know.

Next week at Lanna it’ll be Stableford Competition once more.

Stableford

This Friday for the first match in 2015 we had 25 members teeing off at Maejo.  Everyone arrived on time so we had a smooth start  from both the front and back nine holes.  The early morning chill was soon  replaced by warmer temperatures and light breezes throughout our round making it another ideal day for golf.   Most groups completed their respective rounds in approximately 4 1/2 hour and upon finishing traveled down to the “Caddy Shack” for a few cold ones. As listed above, today’s competition was straight Stableford where we had a 2-way tie for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.  Taking first place honors were Mike Pattavina and Michael ( Kuzie) Kuzmich both posting a score of (36) points.  2nd place was shared by Dizzy  Reeve and Stuart Duncan both finishing with (35) points.  Coming in 3rd place was Gerry Brimacombe and Adam Jackson both scoring (34) points.  Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners! ???????????????????????????????

Today’ Winners:  Stuart, Kuzie, Mike, Gerry, & Adam

We look forward to seeing everyone on  Wednesday, January 7, 2015 where the competition will be Stableford Nassau with a scheduled tee-off time of 7:00 AM.
