STABLEFORD

30/4/16

24 members, including new member, Bob Scheldrick, came out to Mae Jo for the month’s final stableford comp. 5 of the 6 four balls completed play in just under 4 hours. Reportedly, the 6th group was just spending a little extra quality time with their birthday boy host, Julian Wing. Pretty thoughtful of them when you consider it!

No one made a 2 on #2 so it will remain the birdie hole for May for a while longer.

Tying for 4th place today was one of the birthday celebrants, Lawrence Nalik, and Anton Bujiis with 37 points.

One point out of 1st place and tying for 2nd place were Ken Nalder and Nigel Stubbs with 38 points.

But edging them out with an early birdie on #13 was Dao Beece with 39 points!!!

Congratulations to all and have great week’s end. May’s schedule will be up later this week end!

Cheers!

Inthanon, 27.04.16

Another very hot day so conseqently very few golfers on the course apart from our 9 CMSG players.
The greens were very good and with watering the fairways are improving every week.
We welcomed Jack Kuzina for his first NOMADS game with us and he rose to the occasion with the winning score.

IMG_1709Congratulations Jack.

Lanna, 25.o4.16

This Monday we had  (12) members participating in our weekly Stableford event.  Everyone arrived on time and we had an earlier than usual tee-off as the starter let us off a 8:00 am.   Today’s round was on the slow side as it took approximately 4-1/2 hours to complete our round.  It seemed longer due to the sweltering heat with temperatures hovering between 38-40 degrees C.

Relative to the winners Lawrence Nahlik took 1st place honors posting a score of 37 points.  We had a tie for 2nd place with 34 points being shared by Peter Brown and Ashley Kim Sing.  3rd place goes to Barry Ralston with 31 points.  Hats off to today’s winners!

Sorry for the extra tardy report. CRASH!!!  Freak’n DELL!! Can’t wait for my Mac Air book!!

Anyways, 20 members came out Friday even with some playing in Thursday’s away game. Nice turn out.

#2 survived so the pot doubles for this Friday’s final comp for April. NO PLAY THIS WEDNESDAY AT MAE JO ( INTHANON IS AVAILABLE, SEE WEEKLY EVENTS CALENDAR).

Taking 3rd place with 37 points right out of his sick bed was Gerry Brimacombe.

Finishing 2nd with 38 points was Anton Bujiis and the winner of the day’s comp was Ken Nalder with a solid 40 point performance.

See you all this coming Friday!

Cheers.

MISSING-KEN ( QUIETLY LEFT AFTER HALF FINISHING PEPSI!!)

Gassan Legacy, 21.04.16 Away Game (Scramble)

(31) members all arrived on schedule to kick off our first ever “Scramble Event” with teams being formed based on handicap flights comprising of A,B, C, and D handicaps members.  The main reason for this flight arrangement was to attempt to level the field where previously a team of low (long ball hitters) handicap players usually won  past scramble events..  Based on the results it appears that this format created a more even field of teams with the overall results confirming this concept.

Prior to listing the winners it should be noted that the course was in excellent condition with green fairways and fantastic, but sometimes difficult, greens.  In addition, and par for this course, the numerous water hazards consumed more than their fair share of golf balls.  Also, we teed off on schedule with most of the teams completing their respective rounds under (4) hours on a extremely hot day.

Relative to the results we had a (2) way tie for 1st place with a net score of 52 being shared by the following teams:

Team of –  Peter Hadden, Ralph Hamilton, Soren Neilsen, Barry Ralston  Gross 69 Net 52 (Handicap 17) This team had (5) birdies on the back nine posting  a score of net 30 on the finishing round.

Team of – Rob Grootenhuijs, Pranne A Buckley, Jim Catterson, Roengrudee Gross 69 Net 52 (Handicap 17) This team was considered the dark horse favorites as they all played off the forward tees and true to form they shared 1st place honors.

We also had a tie for 2nd place with a net score of 53 being shared by the following teams:

Team of Michael Kuzmich , Ric Cameron, Christian Friss, Diane Mayo Gross 70 net 53 (Handicap 17) This team had a great outcome posting  a 3 under par on the front nine and 1 over on the back nine.

Team of Jerry Buckley, Darrell Pinney, Andrew Galway, Jack Kuzina Gross 68 Net 53 (Handicap 15) Some members of the above team wanted the rules revised to base the winners on overall gross scores but their argument carried little to no weight!

Hat off to all of today’s winners in addition to all the members who supported this event.

Prior to ending this report all the members would like to extend best wishes and a speedy recovery to Roscoe Butler who severely injured his neck as a result of a fall. Roscoe  is now recovering at home after surgery, to repair the damage. On the bright side it is being reported that Roscoe should have a full recovery and be able to play golf again in approx. (6) months time. Again take care and get well soon!

In closing, thank you again to all the members who supported this event!

MaeJo, 20.04.16

STABLEFORD NASSAU

20 members came out to Mae Jo for an under 40 degree round of golf. We welcome back Harry Nieuwland from his Philippines sojourn!

#2 fell to Thomas Rowand, however, he failed to drop by the caddie shack so the prize was rolled into the days regular event. Sorry, Tom. Prize starts over this Friday.

Winning the front nine with an impressive 22 points was Jeff Crosthwaite.

There was a 3 way tie for back nine honors and with the pot being bolstered by Tom’s absence, Jim Hopkins, Lennart Larsen and Graham Adams posted 19 points each to offset their caddie shack check bins.

And once again with great handicap management, Andy Galwey took the overall comp with 37 points.

See most of you again tomorrow for this month’s away game at Gassan Legacy.

If not, then come on out Friday for a straight stableford.

Cheers!

8 PLAYERS CAME OUT TODAY UNDER THE WATCHFUL EYES OF ACTING CAPTAINS, NIGEL STUBBS AND RIC CAMERON. DESPITE THE HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS, IT WAS REPORTED THAT PLAY WAS COMPLETED IN 4 HOURS.

NO PLAYER OF THE YEAR POINTS COULD BE AWARDED DUE TO THE DARTH OF MEMBERS PRESENT BUT , CURRENT POY LEADER, JULIAN WING, LED THE WAY WITH 34 POINTS CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY NIGEL WITH 33 POINTS.

STABLEFORD

12/4/16

13 members came out to Lanna as Songkran week kicks off here in Chiang Mai and I am here to tell you that it is freak’n hot!

But with 3 three balls and 1 four ball the boys and girls ( Joy and Noi ) all got around in just under 4 hours as the heat & holiday week saw an overall low turnout for Sports Day.

Tying for 3rd place with 35 points were the taxi twins, Barry Ralston & Jeff Dwyer.

Alone in 2nd place with an even 36 points was Lennart Larsen and taking 1st place by a comfortable margin with a consistent 20 points a side for a total of 40 was Peter Brown.

We also say goodbye to Howard Aspin this week. Bon Voyage, Howard!

Enjoy your Songkran celebrations this week and play at Lanna will resume next Monday with a stableford nassau comp. managed by acting captain, Prince Harry Nieuwland, who returns from his adopted home of the Philipines on Sunday.

Cheers.

North Hill, 08.04.16

Another hot steamy day at North Hill but a good turnout of 19 players (15 CMSG members and 4 guests – 3 of whom are in the process of joining and submitting cards for handicaps. We were allowed to use 1st and 10th tees to start.

No high scores today because we were all putting like Ernie Els at Auguster (for those who are not watching the Masters, he 6-putted to card a 9 on a par-4).

Anyway, there was a 3-way tie for first place with 35 points (Rob Grootenhuijs, Roengrudee Chumarom, and Kim Anderson), and Christian Friis narrowly missed out to come second with 34 points.

AS FAR AS THE DAY’S COMP IS CONCERNED, THERE WERE SOME PRETTY STRONG PERFORMANCES AMONG THE DAY’S 22 PARTICIPANTS.

PLACING 4TH WITH AN EVEN 36 POINTS WAS BARRY RALSTON.

COMING IN 2ND PLACE WE HAD A TIE AT 37 POINTS BY MICHAEL KUZMICH AND JEFF DWYER WHO HAS BEEN ON A RECENT TEAR.

Inthanon, 06.04.16

A pathetic turnout today, just 3 players, due mainly  to Songkran. Lennart Larrsen outscored Ralph Hamilton and Terry Redding in a battle that went to the wire. The course was still dry but not as difficult to score as it appeared. Lennart and Terry played of the Yellow tees.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE SCORER’S ABSENSE NEXT WEDS,13th, THERE WILL BE NO NOMADS COMPETITION UNTIL THE 20th.

NET STROKE PLAY

7/4/16

23 PLAYERS CAME OUT TO MAE JO INCLUDING GRAHAM ADAM’S MATES, JOHN AND JIM, WHO ARE IN TOWN FOR THE ANNUAL GYMKANNA CRICKET MATCHES BEING HELD THIS WEEK. GO OUT FOR THE AFTERNOON IF YOU HAVE THE TIME. WELL WORTH IT!

STILL NO BIRDIES ON #9. 14TH CHANCE COMING UP THIS FRIDAY!

THERE WAS SOME PRETTY GOOD SCORING UNDER INCREASINGLY WARMER CONDITIONS.

TYING FOR 4TH PLACE WITH NET 72’S WERE GRAHAM AND DIANE MAYO.

PLACING 2ND ALSO IN A TIE WERE GERRY BRIMACOMBE AND THE RELUCTANT BUT AFFABLE STUART DUNCAN.

AND CONTINUING HIS TORRID PACE  FOR POY HONORS ALTHOUGH THERE’S STILL A LONG WAYS TO GO, JULIAN WING SHOT 2 UNDER NET 70 FOR 1ST PLACE.

HOPE TO SEE YOU FRIDAY FOR A STRAIGHT STABLEFORD COMP AND YET ANOTHER SHOT AT #9.

STROKE PLAY

5/4/16

16 members and 1 guest came out to Lanna for net stroke play on the racetrack nine and course #1. But at the end only 14 cards were presented to yours’ truly. Perhaps Loy Kroh Road flu played a part!

Conditions on the racetrack nine were quite nice but course#1 continues to dry up even further with this continuing drought.

Scoring was reasonable and tying for 4th today with net 76’s were Gary Lyon and Nachaya (Wi) Suwannakat.

Finishing 2nd alone with a net 72 was last week’s Inthanon Dapper Dan, Terry Redding.

But the round of the day was turned in by Jeff Dwyer who shot a blistering net 64 to take top honors.

See you next Monday as I complete my hat trick as acting captain when a straight stableford comp will be held on runways 1 & 2.

Cheers!

North Hill, 01.04.16

Great day at North Hill today. Nine CMSG members on a pretty empty course so it was a quick round for the 3 groups. Scoring was a bit on the low side probably because of the hardened state of the greens and as usual lots of balls found water. Runner up was Keith Freeman with 31 points and the winner was Rob Grootenhuijs with 36 points.

For the month of April, North Hill has a promotion called “April Splash” (perhaps something to do with the number of balls we lose?). Members pay only 600 baht (green fee + caddie fee), and guests 800 baht. If anyone is interested in playing on Wednesday 6thApril at 8:30am please contact Keith Freeman.

STABLEFORD

Exactly 16 members showed up for today’s comp. A captain’s dream with 4-four balls off #1 at 7:55 a.m.

The first round of the month and still #9 remains unclaimed with a birdie!! You guys suck!!!

The prize now is the largest since we initiated this last year. Come on out next Wednesday for net stroke play and take another shot.

Some good scoring happened again and tying for 3rd place with strong 38 point performances were Steve Bjorge and Julian Wing.

Taking 1st place honors, also in a tie were Craig Morriss and our illustrious president, Jack Kuzina, with 40 points apiece.

Jack shot 40 off the stick on the back nine for 26 points to boot!

We also welcome Gino Wernikoff back after a 2 year lay off from CMSG!!

Have a great week end and see you next week either at Lanna or Mae Jo.

Cheers!

P.S. See weekly events calendar for April 13th. Play has been rescheduled as Ric Cameron and Nigel Stubbbs have stepped up to be Captains that day!
