Match Reports November 2017

North Hill, 01.12.17

There were 18 members fronting up for todays Stableford Nassau event with 17 in the comp and one still going for handicap.  Mind you a couple of them had trouble finding the course, but in the end made it before tee off, just.  No one took out the birdie hole and life goes on.   there were two overall winners with 38 points being Allen Norris and Roger Mack.  It might be said that Allen played his pants off as his caddy insisted that he change after nine holes because it was getting embarrassing, and I do mean em.bar.arsing. The winner of the front nine was Leon Smiler with 19 points and the back nine was Robert Green with a nice even round of 18 points front and back.  lovely day, great camaraderie, great course.

Robert,, Leon, Allen, Roger

Six members turned up for an enjoyable day’s golf. Course was quiet with little sign of the tourists yet to come although the  Korean group in front slowed up and our two 3-balls turned in to a 6-ball at the 16th hole. Ralph Hamilton took honours.

Lanna, 27.11.17

The stand in Captain was very touched that 19 members came to witness his return today, or was it just coincidence!! The birdie hole again fell on week one to Jack Cooper.

Cloudy skies and a light breeze made todays golfing conditions perfect for some good scoring and all players finished in a little over 4 hours. Tied for third on 34 points were Lester Twigden and Inge Persson. Todays tied winners were Mark Morriss and Alan Norris on 35 points. Congraulations to all, next week strokeplay on courses 3 and 1.

Inge, Mark, Allen and Lester.

North Hill, 27.11.17

Seven members played today in a stableford event on a near empty course with overcast skies and light breezes.  Some of the greens have been lightly sanded and were a bit slower which made putting much easier, or so it seemed, hope they do the rest by Friday.  The staff have complied with our request for more “OB” marker pegs on holes 12 & 15 and we thank them for that.  No takers for the birdie hole.  The winner today was Garry Walker with 36 points and the runner-up was Brian Heuston with 33 points.  We farewelled Milton & Denise on their way to enjoy a Bollywood style wedding in India for a week.  Do come and join us on Mondays for a most enjoyable round of golf.

Mae Jo, 27.11.17

Only 8 players today in great weather for golf. The scores did not reflect the good conditions, a tie for 1st. on only 31 points were Jim and Barry. Happy days, win and go out. Hope to see a few more on Wednesday.

North Hill, 24.11.17

Friday golf has never looked so good, weather is fine and the course is in top condition, if anything the course  may be getting a little too popular with increasing numbers every day.  17 members present today for the usual stableford event.  No takers for the birdie hole again and just in case you’ve forgotten it is the par 5 hole #12.  The outright winner today was Brian Heuston with 42 points having torn the front nine apart and only faltering a little on the back nine.  Tied for second were Milton Reynolds and Don Bishop with 35 points each.  Well done everyone and just maybe we will see you again next week on either Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

Milton & Brian

For the final leg of the Chiang Rai we had (13) members vying for the Chiang Rai Cup.  As noted we played this event at Waterford or better known as the “Augusta of the North” with its beautiful entrance similar if not more impressive than “Magnolia Lane”.  Typical for this course the greens and fairways were in excellent condition resulting in some very impressive results.

1st Place:                       Graham Adams                         44 points

2nd Place:                     Lawrence Nahlik                       42 points

3rd Place                       Don Bishop                                39 points

4th Place:                     4-way tie being shared by Frank, Jack, Kuzie, & Iain

Based on the final days results the 2017 Chiang Rai cup winner is Graham Adams with a total score of 77 points.

Coming in 2nd place with 76 points was Lawrence Nahlik followed by Don Bishop & Frank Schwarz taking 3rd place with 73 points.

The Winner’s Circle:  Lawrence, Graham, Don

It should be noted that this is Graham’s fourth championship win this years as he won the Piss Heads Cup,the Lao championship last month, the CMSG golfers Annual tournament with a tie for 1st place and lastly this years 2017 Chiang Rai cup.  Graham’s confidence is growing leaps and bounds and he is predicting that in a few weeks or so he will be beating Ronny Peters off the stick on a regular basis!

North Hill, 20.11.17

A small group of three enthusiastic players today. Brian Heuston was the winner, but all were winners because we had the pleasure of playing on an immaculate course with few other groups to delay play.

Welcome to our new Canadian member, Richard Barron who is improving with every round. This was his second card and we look forward to him achieving his handicap.

The fairways and greens were perfect and with the removal of some of the heavy rough the course is beautiful. Once again the Staff and Caddies were very friendly, which makes for a most enjoyable day. Finishing the day with lunch in air-conditioned comfort made the day complete.

Look forward to seeing you all next week.

Brian

Lanna 1+2, 20.11.17

The posted scores were not that great as 10 out of the 11 players handicap index went up .1 strokes.

The following are today’s winners:

1st Place:              Lester Twigden                       32 points
