Away Game January 2018

Royal Chiang Mai Golf Resort

Thursday – February 1, 2018

Tee-off:   12 noon

Cost:  1,000 baht includes caddy fee, green fee, and golf cart

Format: Yellow Ball

“Yellow Ball” is the name of a popular golf format used by associations, charity and corporate tournaments, or just among several groups of friends. This format is popular enough that it goes by many different names, among them: Money Ball, Devil Ball, Pink Ball, Pink Lady and Lone Ranger. They are all the same game.

In Yellow Ball, golfers play in groups of four, and play as a team.  Of the four golf balls the team members are playing, one of them is yellow.

That yellow ball rotates among the team members, changing after each hole. For example, on the first hole Player A hits the yellow ball; on the second hole, Player B plays the yellow ball, and so on, rotating throughout the round.

Note:  Prior to teeing off each team must select the order of play of the yellow ball by each team member and the order of play is then maintained thru out the match.  Basically, the team member who is #1 and #2 in initial order of play subsequently is assigned the yellow ball on (5) holes and team member #3 and #4 in the initial rotation is assigned the yellow ball on (4) holes.

At the completion of each hole, the scores of two team members are added together to create one team score. One of those scores must be from the player who used the yellow ball. The other score is the low score among the other three team members.

The low score is the net score of the players based on their individual handicap and the index of the hole.

Example:

Hole 4 – Par 5 – Index 6

Yellow Ball players handicap is 18:     – Yellow balls scores a gross 5 (Par) so his net score is 4 as he gets a stroke per each hole

Team mate B:  Handicap 24:               –  B scores a gross 5 so his net for that hole is 3 as he gets (2) strokes

Team mate C: Handicap 8:                  – C scores a gross 6 so his net is 5

Team mate D: Handicap 5                   – D scores gross 6 so his net is 6

Team score: add the yellow ball score (net 4) and the next lowest score which is Player B (net 3) total score for hole 4 then is 7

At the end of 18 holes the total scores are added to determine the winning team!

To speed up play on holes where a player cannot score better than a team mate he should not put out!
