Lanna, 30.05.16
Under rain threatening clouds 13 members came out today for a Stableford competition. We were able to start at 08:00 am and all groups finished under or around 4 hours without any rain with an overall nice temperature.
In 3rd place with 34 points came in Yukio Doi and tied for the Win with 36 Stableford points were Steve Bjorge and Garry Walker.
Congrats to all Winners, next week we have our monthly Stroke Event on Course 3 and 1.
North Hill, 27.05.16
Only 7 members and 1 guest today for a Stableford round Once again it was very hot 4+ hours on the golf course and most suffered where it counts the most, in their score.
The winners today were Ashley and Keith Freeman with 33 points each.

Stubby’s Stableford
26/5/16
Under overcast skies, 25 members came out to Mae Jo for the always interesting modified Stableford event that Nigel Stubbs suggested over a year ago. In fact, Mr Stubby was also the day’s official score recorder post round and his findings were as follows:
Tying for 4th place with 43 points were Adam Jackson (pulling 6 clubs) and Yung Beece (pulling 9 ).
Also in a tie for 2nd place and pictured below were Lennart Larsen (pulling 11 clubs, WOW!) and Iain Craig (pulling 8 clubs) with 45 points each.
But proving that less is sometimes more, Andy Galwey took 1st place with 46 points and pulling a modest 7 clubs!!
The new birdie hole is now #17 after Jack Cooper took down #2 last week and it survived it’s first day so come on out tomorrow for the month’s last POY comp.
Cheers!
P.S. PLEASE RECORD YOUR SCORES PROMPTLY AFTER EACH HOLE PERSONALLY!! NO CADDIE SCRIBES! YOUR CO OPERATION IN THE MATTER IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Lanna, 23.05.16
With much better weather condition 10 CMSG members joined today the Stableford format. Everyone arrived in time and we started 10 minutes ahead of our scheduled Tee time. Due to a rather slow 4 Thai four ball playing in front of us all three groups stayed close together and finished in around 4 1/2 hours.
Regarding the scoring we had in 2nd place Lennart Larsson with 32 points and todays Winner with a respectable 41 points was Lawrence Nahlik.
North Hill, 20.05.16
Not sure if I am glad to be back in country or what, Bloody hot that is all I can say. Anyway not a bad turnout today after the big day out at Royal yesterday. We had just 8 members show up, one lady who was going fine until she threw a shoe and was out of the race and 7 guys most of whom started well but tired after the first nine holes. I think it is something to do with the heat, but no excuses as the course put on a special deal of 1300 baht for green fee/caddy fee/cart and 200 baht voucher. Why walk when you can ride in style, but I put on so much weight while away I need the exercise, I have to keep telling myself that anyway. Have I said it before, gee its hot. The course is in surprisingly good condition and a credit to the North Hill staff in these dry conditions. Anyway the course favourite was beaten today by Christian Friis with 34 points and Smiley Haddon had to settle for the runner up position. I would like to thank Keith for being the stand in captain while I was away and I am sure that everyone will agree that he did a fine job, so much so, that I think he will be lost without the captaincy and therefore should nominate to be captain out at Lanna, if not I will be glad to share the captaincy at NH with him. See some of you at Gymkhana Friends tomorrow or Lanna on Monday.
Maejo, 20.05.16
We had 18 players today and 17 finished their rounds. Unfortunately Andrew Galway dropped out because of back-pain.
First place with 40 points came Jack Cooper. Tied for second were
Young and Kuzie with each 36 points and third with 35 points came Ken.
The second hole was birdied by Jack Cooper who took the kitty-box with 1100 Baht in it.
Next week wednesday the format is Stubby Stableford.

35 degrees Clesius today so the course was quiet again today. Six fearless stalwarts braved the heat but even the excitement of Ashley Kim’s win paled into insignificance when the caddy shack caught fire! Caddies running around like headless chickens and marshalls on it’s roof fighting the fire with buckets and hoses.
Very entertaining but we can’t guarantee this every week.
Maejo, 18.05.16
Today’s Stableford-Nassau game was attented by 15 members and 1 Guest (Ian). Welcome back Jack Cooper who has been back to England and brexited back to Chiang Mai 2 weeks ago after having survived the English food and the NHS.
The overall winner was Nigel Stubbs with 37 points. The front was won by Graham Adams with 20 points and we had a three way tied for Ric Cameron, Adrew Galway and Steve Bjorge. Well done guys.
Tomorrow we have our Away Game at Royal Chaing Mai. The format is Stableford. Please be there on time (8:15)
Lanna, 16.05.16
After tonight’s rain it slightly cooled down and hopefully we will gradually see from now on the transition to the rainy season. Today’s format was Stableford/Nassau and we were pleased to have a turnout of 14 members. The front nine was shared by Allan, Joy, (Julian) and Gary Lyon with 18 points. The back nine was won by Lennart with 26 Points and the overall winner was Julian Wing with a stunning 42 points ( Kuzie en Nigel 😀 ). Another 2 members joined the Away game on Thursday, welcome Soren en Renee.
North Hill, 13.05.16
Some found today hot and some didn’t. Those that didn’t were the ones who availed themselves of the 1100 Baht special (Green fee + Caddie Fee + Cart + 200 Baht voucher for Mix).
I now wish that I had – hopefully they will have the same deal next week.
There were 12 members today and 1 guest so there were 4 groups and it was a quick round – for the first 3 groups anyway. Lennart and Soron shared 3rd place with 34 points. Ralph was 2nd with 38 points and the winner was Christian with 41 points.
See you all next week, when captain Garry should be back.
Maejo, 13.05.16
Another good turn out as we had (19) members coming to Maejo to test their skills in a Stableford competition. This Friday was similar to the last 25 or so days with extremely high temperatures hovering around the 40 degree C range. Luckily, we had some light breezes that resulted in making the torrid temperatures more bearable.
Relative to the results we had a tie for 3rd place being shared by Yung Beece and Anton Buijs both scoring (31) points. 2nd place today goes to Frank Schwarz posting a score of (33) points. Taking sole position of 1st place with (37) points was Robert (Rob) Green. Hats off to today’s winners!
At this juncture I would like to ask everyone to possibly have a little more patience with other members during these extremely hot conditions. These temperatures will result in a little slower play than the norm and subsequently when waiting for a group in front to put out may seem like an eternity. Today some of the groups completed their respective rounds in (4) hour or less and in these conditions is quite fast. Lets not forget the high season when it takes us more than 4-1/2 hours to complete our round.
Lastly, we welcome back Gary Cooke who will again be playing with us on a regular basis.
Inthanon, 11.05.16
Another ferociously hot day on the course but due to watering it’s improving every week.
Just 7 keen players today and almost all gave the course a run for for the money.
Had to have a recount when it was discovered Smiley hadn’t won but eventually Ashley Kim Sing and Terry Redding
received the nod. As soon as the heatwave breaks I recommend members come back to enjoy this excellent layout and the friendliest staff of any course in Chiang Mai.

Lanna, 09.05.16
Only 10 members joined the Stableford competition today. All groups made it around in good times as the Golf Course was rather empty. It may be the fact that it is pretty warm or that members are just taking a break but numbers are down on all venues.
Remember to make your participation known for next weeks Away Game @ Royal Chiang Mai. Only Baht 900 including Caddy.
So for todays Winners, in second place with a good 35 points was Gary Lyon and yet again and seemingly in good form in first place with 40 points was Lawrence Nahlik.
North Hill, 06.05.16
Another hot and sticky day at North Hill where 11 members and 1 guest played in 3 groups. The course was empty as usual so there were no hold-ups and most people finished in just over 4 hours.
Third place was awarded to Lawrence Nahlik with 33 points, and second place went to Smiley with 37 points.Overall winner was Keith Freeman who surprisingly needed only one golf ball for the round to score 38 points.

WITH SOME DEBRIS FROM YESTERDAY’S HAIL STORM STILL ON SOME OF THE FAIRWAYS, LIFT, CLEAN AND PLACE WAS INSTITUTED BY YOURS’ TRULY. SO, 23 MEMBERS WITH BALLS IN HAND MADE IT AROUND MAE JO IN TIMES VARYING FROM 3.5 HOURS TO 4.5 HOURS. APPARENTLY CARRYING YOUR BALLS HAS DIFFERENT EFFECTS ON DIFFERENT FOLKS AND WE WILL LEAVE IT AT THAT.
WE HAD A 3 WAY TIE FOR 4TH PLACE AT 37 POINTS- JEFF CROSTHWAITE, KEITH TAYLOR & STEVE BORGE.
TYING FOR 2ND PLACE WAS JOOP SCHILLEMANNS AND KEN NALDER (74 OFF THE STICK) WITH 38 POINTS.
AND TODAY’S VICTOR WITH 39 POINTS WAS BIG RIC CAMERON! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!!
ALSO, THE BIRDIE PRIZE DOUBLED TO 6 AS JEFF AND STEVE MADE GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY.
IN ADDITION, WE SAY GOODBYE TO GERRY BRIMACOMBE AS HE AGAIN RETURNS TO THE FROZEN NORTH OF EDMONTON, ALBERTA.
CHEERS AND ENJOY YOUR WEEK’S END!
Inthanon, 04.05.16
The course is 100 percent improved over last week following extensive watering. Not only the greens were green but fairways too.
Only 6 players this week but all enjoyed the day and scores were very similar. The Smiley fund went as usual to Smiley who must be well on the way to replacing his house.
Hope to see more members and guests next week now the course is nearly back to normal.
Mae Jo, 04.05.16
NET STROKE PLAY
5/5/16
22 members came out to Mae Jo for individual net stroke play. Remember, you have to finish every hole in this format to be considered for this comp. KUZIE!
Thank goodness no one birdied #2 as I forgot my envelope. So that prize grows for tomorrow’s stableford comp.
Play took just over 4 hours as this format, despite Kuzie’s attempts to speed up the pace, generally take a few minutes extra to complete.
Taking 3rd place with net 73 was Bob Green.
Shooting a one under net 71 and good for 2nd was Nigel Stubbs.
And coming in with a solid 3 under net 69 was Kenny Jones including a great bogey save of what should have been a disaster on #5. Well done!
Congrats to the days victors!
Lanna 02.05.16
Today we had (8) members participating in a stroke play competition on course (3) racetrack and course 1. We all were under the impression that the low numbers today was the result of many members thinking the course was closed based on it being a Thai holiday (Labor Day). Concerning Monday closing dates, I requested from the Office staff at Lanna what days will the course be closed for the remainder of the year (2016). I was advised that they did not know at this time but stated the course we be open for each Monday in May 2016. Upon hopefully getting official and additional information on what Mondays the course will be closed will then be posted on our web site.
Getting back to the results it was announced that there was a 4-way tie for 1st place with a Net score of (75) being shared by Barry Ochitwa, Barry Ralston, Lawrence Nahlik & Kim Stogner. This announcement was based on actual score cards submitted as acting captain Jack computer had a low battery. Upon updating the scores into our handicap system it was revealed that Barry Ochitwa scored a net 74 therefore resulting in Barry taking 1st place honors. The error was the result Barry’s handicap being (27) not the (26) noted on his score card. Another confirmation on how well our system works. Sorry about that Barry – I will ask Lawrence, Kim, and Barry Ralston to give you 100 baht each. Good luck in getting the money back as one might state you will get your money when “Hell Freezes Over”!
In closing, congratulations to today’s winners especially Barry Ochitwa! I will personally buy Barry a cold beer for this inadvertent result.
