Mae Jo, 31.12.14
Nassau Stableford
This New Years Eve we had a record turn-out as (31) members and (1) guest played their last round of golf of 2014 at Maejo. All the groups commenced play on schedule from both the 1st and 10th tee boxes. Again, the weather was ideal for golf and we all completed our respective rounds in approx. (4) hours plus or minus a few minutes. Today, we also welcomed back Bart Hendricks after his extended stay in the US celebrating the birth of his grandson.
The winners of the competition were Dao Beece taking the overall honors by posting a score of (35) Stableford points. Keeping it in the family, her sister Ram, won the front nine with (19) points. The back nine went to Harry Nieuwland posting an impressive score of (22) points. Hats off to all of today’s winners!
Today’s Winners: Ram , Harry, Dao
Our next scheduled match is this Friday January 2, 2015 with another early start ( 7:00 AM) with the format being Stableford.
We wish all our illustrious members a Healthy and Happy New Year!
Lanna, 29.12.14
Another great day for golfing at Lanna, 22 members and 1 guest went out to test their skills. Todays Competition was a Stableford Nassau. As usual Lanna proved not to be easy. I must say scoring was on the low side. The weather was good and maybe that is why we had so many snow birds out on the course too but even they didn’t stop us from a fast round of golf, just over four hours for the first group to complete their round.
Today we had a closest to the Pin competition at the Par 3 hole # 10. Terry Redding was the closest to the pin with 15′ 9″ and he enjoyed his bottle of Jim Beam and so did most of us too, thank you Terry.
As for the Stableford Nassau side of the competition the scoring was on the low side or maybe not. Once again we had a three way tie on the front side at 19 points between Julian Wing, Berry Ochitwa and Gordon Langtry. Julian won the count back. The back side was taken by Ralph Hamilton with 18 points. Our overall high point winner for the 18 holes was Peter Haddon (Smiley) with 36 points, I think he’s still smiling too. Congratulations to all our winners.
For the first Lanna competition of the New Year we’ll be back on the 3-1 courses for stroke play, so come on out and test your golf stills.
From the Lanna group Happy New years and may it be better than the last one for you.
Ralph, Peter, Terry & Julian
Mae Jo, 26.12.14
Today we felt the morning after effect of the Christmas parties by having only 15 players making it to Mae Jo for another game in the nice cool weather. Additionally a contingency of a dozen members went to have a first hand experience at the rebuilt Gassan Legacy Golf Course.
The Scoring was on the low side probably an attribute to the late night out by everyone. Nevertheless first place with 32 points, and in no particular order was, Jeff Croswhaite, Stuart Leckie and Michael Kuzmich.
Congratulation to the Winners and for everyone else who managed to get to the course on time today despite the physical challenges.
Stuart, Jeff & Kuzie
See you all for the final game of the 2014 season at the usual time @ 07:00 hours. The format is Stableford Nassau.
Mae Jo, 24.12.14
We had (29) members and (1) guest playing another round of golf on Christmas Eve at Maejo. We teed off from both the front nine and back nine holes with the groups going off the back nine completing their round under 3-1/2 hours with those going off the front nine taking more than 4 hours to complete their respective round. Today, with our scheduled early morning tee off time, had to be one of the coldest starts of the year with both members and caddies shivering for the first hour or so of play. Eventually, it warmed up and we could take off our jackets- but burr it was a cold start!
Today was our “Monthly Stroke Play” competition with Jeff Crosthwaite having a great round and taking first place honors with a gross score of (80) and a net score of (68). 2nd place went to Young Beece with another good round: gross (84) net (70). Lennart Larrson took 3rd place honors with a gross 104 and a net (71). Last but not least 4th place went to Ric Camero finishing with a net 72. Hats off to all of today’s Christmas Eve winners!
Today’s Winner’s: Yung, Lennart, Jeff, & Ric)
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday ( for some Boxing Day) for another early tee- off at 7:00 am with the competition format being Stableford.
Lanna, 22.12.14
It is winter time here in Chiang Mai so it was a very cool or you might say cold morning at Lanna but that didn’t stop 21 CMSG and 3 guest from heading out for a fun game of Stableford Competition. The weather was cool but the scoring was on the warmer side. Lawrence Nahlik lead the way with 41 points to take the top points for the day with 41 points but wasn’t in the m—y competition so he didn’t get you know what. Peter Hadden (Smiley) was next with 36 points to take that honor. Once again we had a tied for second between Julian Wing and Keith Freeman at 33 points, Julian won on count back to take second leaving Keith in third place. Congratulation to the winners. We also welcome back John Orlebeck from sunny California.
Next Monday at Lanna we’ll be playing Stableford Nassau with a closes to the hole competition on hole number 10. The prize will be enjoyable, so come on out and enjoy the fun.
From the Lanna Captain and the Lanna Golfers we wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas.
Keith. Lawrence, Peter H. (Smiley) & Julian
Mae Jo, 19.12.14
This Friday we had (19) members and (1) guest teeing off at Maejo and playing in a “2-man best ball” competition. The weather continues to be ideal for golf as we had clear skies and with cool temperatures through out our round. Again, we all completed our respective rounds in approximately (4) hours and within the high season norm time frame.
Taking first place honors today was the team of Jim Hopkins and Steven Bjorge posting a net score of 66. Second place went to the team of Don Bishop and Jeff Crosthwaite with a net 67 followed by the team of Nigel Stubbs and Michael ( Kuzie) Kuzmich taking 3rd place with a net score of 68. Hats off to today’s winners!
Today’s winners: Don, Jim, Jeff, Steven, Nigel & Kuzie
Our next scheduled match is our “Monthly Stroke Play” on December 24, 2014 with another early start at 7:00 AM.
Mae Jo, 17.12.14
Another good turn out as (21) members and (4) guests participated in another Wednesday round of golf at Maejo. Everyone was on time so all the groups teed-off on schedule. Today the weather had to be one of the best days for golf over the past year as we played our entire round under cloudy skies and cool temperatures. Again, we all completed our respective rounds under 4.5 hours which as stated previously is the norm for the high season.
As far as the Stabledford Nassau competition today taking the front nine with (19) points was Gerry Brimacombe. The back nine winner was Ric Cameron posting a high score of (24) points. It should be noted that Ric fired a dismal (9) points on the front nine but not being discouraged he stormed back on the last (9) holes. The over all winner today was Captain Jack posting a score of (38) points. Congratulations to all of today’s winners!
No photo today as the captain forgot to bring his Camera.
In closing we look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday where we will have a 2-man best ball competition with the teams being formatted prior to tee-off of 7:00 AM.
Lanna, 15.12.14
Numbers were low this morning at Lanna, just 19 hardy CMSG showed up to play the Three Strike Stroke Competition and I’m sure it just might have something to do with stroke competition that some golfers don’t care for, for they say it’s to hard to win in stroke competition. But isn’t all golf competition stroke play? You still have to score good to win no matter what the competition is. With the weather being good and with a lot of golfers on the course due to High Season, we were still able to play the 18 holes in just over four hours which for Lanna isn’t all that bad. Once more the scoring was very good with lots of low nets scores. Mark Morris had a great round with a gross 97. After taking his three bad holes off his gross and using only 75% of his regular handicap Mark ended up with a low net of 53 to take first place. Allen Norris had a good round too but ended up shot with just a low net of 56 to take second. Third place went to Ralph Hamilton after a count back with Keith Freeman who also had a low net of 57. Congratulation to our winners.
Next Monday at Lanna it will be a Stableford Competition. No red ball this year. But there just might be a New Years surprise for the last tournament of the year at Lanna waiting for you.

This Friday we had a lower than usual turn-out for this time of the year as only (17) members and (2) guests turned up at Maejo for another early round of golf. For some unknown reason the starter only allowed (1) group to tee off the back nine with the balance ( 4- groups) starting on the front nine holes. Again we completed our respective rounds in a little less than 4.5 hours under ideal weather conditions. Relative to the competition today we had a tie for first place being shared by Harry Nieuwland and Adam Jackson both posting (36) points. We had a 3-way tie for second place with (35) points each by Jim Hopkins, Nigel Stubbs, and Jack Kuzina. Again, all the winners being in the buffer zone where no handicap changes are applicable.
Today’s winners: Jack, Jim , Harry, Adam, & Nigel
Our next scheduled match is December 17, 2014 where the competition format will be Stableford Nassau with a scheduled starting time of 7:12 AM. Again, we request that every member arrive at a minimum of (30) minutes prior to the starting time.
Mae Jo, 10.12.14
Matchplay against the course.
This Friday we had (26) members and (2 guests) teeing off at Maejo. Most members arrived on time subsequently making it a on-time tee-off from both the Front and back nine holes. Typical for this time of the year the weather was ideal for golf with cool mornings warming up considerably as our round progressed. Today it took approximately (4.5) hours to complete our round which could be categorized as the standard during this high season. Relative to the competition taking first honors today was Frank Schwarz with a score of +3. We had a 3-way tie for second place being shared by Jeff Crosthwaite, Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich and Gordon Langtry all posting a score of +2. Hats off to today’s winners!
Today’s Winner Circle: Kuzie, Jeff, Frank & Gordon
Also we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Dennis and Pan Byrne on the birth of their newborn son Dennis. Pan is doing great after a long and tiring 9-months and of course Dennis is also enjoying this wonderful occasion. We will request that father Dennis pay up his son’s membership initiation dues this week!
It appears the young Dennis has the same head of hair as Dad.
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday December 12, 2014 with another early start at 7:00 AM
Lanna, 08.12.14
Another good turnout at Lanna on Monday 21 CMSG and 1 new member again making our total 22 out on the course for Stableford Nassau Competition. Nothing can really be said about the weather it was great with a little breeze to keep things a little cool on the latter part of the round. Our new member is Raymond (Ray) Harper from Scotland, so welcome him to our Society when you meet him. The scoring was good once more proving that Lanna isn’t all that hard for the most part, if you just hit the ball in the short grass. Since we were playing Stableford Nassau, with high front and back and high total for the 18 holes, Mark Morris took the front nine with 19 points, edging out Gary Lyon’s on the count back. The back went to Gerry Brimacombe with also 19 points. Our total overall winner for the 18 holes was Barry Ochitwa with 38 points. With that said we must mention that Barry had a very high front nine of 24 points, we won’t mention the back nine you can do the math yourself. Congratulation to all the winners. Week at Lanna the competition will be Strike 3 Stroke play, using 75% of the players handicap. So come on out and enjoy the fun.

Mae Jo, 05.12.14
Stableford Nassau
This Friday we had a respectable turn-out as (26) members showed up at Maejo for an early 7:12 tee-off. Surprisingly everyone was on time and there were no stragglers to upset the allotted groups subsequently resulting in an on schedule start off the both the front and back nine holes. Typical for this time of the year it was an ideal day for golf with mostly cool temperatures and overcast skies. Also, we all completed our respective rounds in approx. 4.5 hours as we were held up by groups who teed off prior to out start. As stated above today the competition was “Stableford Nassau” with Ric Cameron posting a most impressive score of (40) points to take first place honours. For the front nine we had a tie today being shared by Kazuo Mitsunaga and Dizzy Reeve both scoring (20) points. We had a solo winner on the back nine with Jeff Crosthwaite also posting a score of (20) points. Hats off to all of today’s winners! It also should be mentioned the Frank Schwarz made an Eagle on the par (5) 16th hole- well done Frank. Nothing much new to report today as we all meandered down to the Caddy Shack for some cold ones.
The Winners Circle: Kazuo, Ric, Jeff
We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday December 10, 2014 where the competition will be “Match Play Against the Course” complete with another early start of 7:00 AM.
Mae Jo, 03.12.14
Another good turn-out as (28) members turned-up for another round of golf at Maejo. Today was our initial 7:00 AM (High Season) tee-off time with everyone except (2) of our members showing up on time. Luckily, the (2) late members were able to get paired with golfers outside of our society and therefore completed a round of golf and later joined our group at the “Caddy” shack. It should be noted that with the new early starting times both the front and back nine tee-times have been reserved for our groups resulting in eliminating any long delays to tee-off. Relative to the Stableford competition Mike Pattavina took first place honors by posting (36) Stableford points. Second places today goes to Harry Nieuwland with a score of (35). Third place today was shared by Adam Jackson and Pranee A. Buckley both scoring (34) points. Again, all of today’s winners were in the buffer zone subsequently resulting in no handicap reductions and/or increases. Congratulation’s goes out to all of today’s winners!
Todays Winners: Harry, Pranee, Mike, & Adam
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday December 5th where our scheduled tee off time is 7:00 AM
Lanna, 01.12.14
With the weather being so great for golfing we had a very good turnout at Lanna for the first Monday of the month Stroke play competition on their 3-1 courses. 26 CMSG plus one new member making it 27 in all tested their golf skills at stroke play and most did very well with scores in the high 60’s and low 70’s. By the way our new member is Graham Jones from England, so welcome him to the CMSG when you meet him. With that all said and done we had a three way tie for first place with a low net of 69 and a four way tie at net 73 with many more close behind. The three at 69 were Howard Aspin, Gary Burke and Richard Roehl. Sorry to say Richard didn’t get into the money end of the competition and I won’t say why. Using our count back system that we use at Lanna we had to go all the way to the end and use the number one handicap hole as a tie breaker and Howard came out on top by one stroke to take first leaving Gary in second. The four who tied at 73 were Ralph Hamilton, Lester Twigden, Mike Mason and Frank Schwarz. Frank won out on count back to take third only because he had a very good round at Lanna and I think one of his best. So Congratulation to all our winners. Next week at Lanna we’ll be back to Stableford Nassau Competition so come on out and have some fun.
FRANK, GARY, HOWARD
Mae Jo, 28.11.14
Another good turn-out as (28) members showed up at Maejo for a Friday round of golf. We all teed off on time off the front and back nine holes under clear skies and cool temperatures. For those interested the starters consider the going of the front nine as going “Out” and going off the back nine as going “In”. So don’t be confused if a starter advises you to start on the “Out” holes. Getting back to the golf it took most of our groups a little over 4 hours to complete their respective rounds. This time seemed longer to some groups for we had (3) of our four-somes waiting to tee off on the par 3 17th hole. Regardless, is was another great day for golf coupled with some interesting and varied conversations over few cold ones at the Caddy Shack. Relative to the results taking first place honors with an impressive score of (41) points was John Noyes. Jeff Crosthwaite also posted a good score of (38) points placing him alone in 2nd place. We had a 3-way tie for 3rd place with 37 points being shared by Frank Schwarz, Robert Green, and Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich. For a change all of today’s winners will have an handicap index reduction. Hats off to all of today’s winners!
The Winners Circle: Robert, Kuzie, John, Jeff, & Frank
We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday December 3, 2014 for a Stableford Nassau competition with a new scheduled tee-off time of 7:10 AM.

Another large turn-out as we had (27) members and (2) guests participating in a Wednesday round of golf at Maejo. Today (3) groups started off the back nine and the balance teed-off the front nine. Also, our tee-times were pushed back (30) minutes as according to the starter Tum, Maejo made an error in scheduling other groups to our reserved tee-times. Regardless, we all teed off in an orderly fashion with each group completing their respective round in (4) hours or less. Again, the weather was perfect for golf as we enjoyed some cool breezes thru out the round with temperature raising, but not unbearable, as our round progressed. Today the competition was our “Monthly Stroke Play” with Mike Mason taking first place honors with a net score of (64). We had a tie for 2nd place today being shared by Keith Taylor and Iain Craig both ending up with a net score of (73). Of special interest it was Iain Craig’s ( alias Eye On ) first time in the winners circle after playing with us for more than (2) years. 3rd place today goes to Jack Cooper who had a net score of (74). Hats off to today’s winners!
Today’s Winners: Iain, Jack, Mike & Keith
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday, November 28th , for a Stableford competition with a scheduled tee-off time of 8:00 am.

Lanna, 24.11.14
23 golfers which 20 were CMSG had a fun day of Stableford Golf at Lanna today under perfect golfing condition. Fairways nice and conducive for long drives. Greens were nice too but as always you had to be careful hitting onto them. With condition being so good there were some good high Stableford points in the mid to high thirties with one exception and that was Allen Norris that let us all know that he can really play golf with a high of 47 points. So who says you can’t score high at Lanna. Robert (Bob) Green came in a distant second with 38 points to take second. Barry Ochitwa coming in with a good round of 36 points to take third. Congratulation to all the winners and to those who came close. Next Monday at Lanna we’ll be back to stroke play on Lanna’s 3 & 1 courses since it’s the 1st of December. Boy where has this year gone, December already.

Stableford Nassau
Another large turn out this Friday at Maejo as (31) members and (1) guest participated in a Stableford Nassau competition. The Maejo started only allowed (2) groups to tee off the back nine with the remaining (6) groups teeing off the front nine holes. It’s that time of the year when we will experience slower rounds and also longer waits to tee-off as the high season is upon us. Even the (2) groups that started on the back nine were slowed substantially by a foursome in front of them that resulted in these groups taking more than (4) hours to complete their respective rounds. Again, we ask for patience as our numbers are increasing subsequently resulting in longer delays to tee-off. It appears the only trade off to the slow play is that the weather is much cooler minus the unbearable humidity making it ideal golf weather. Back to the results today winners are as follows:
Kuzie ( Overall Winner 36 points)
Shaun (Front Nine Winner 22 Points )
Steven ( Back nine Winner 19 Points )
The photos above were from other events as our photographer failed to take any photos for some unknown reason other than being intrigued listening to all the BS stories from the gathered members at the Caddy Shack. Hats off to today’s Winners! Our next scheduled match will be our Monthly Stroke Competition with a scheduled tee-off time of 8:00 AM
MaeJo, 19.11.14
2-ball, best ball. Another good turn-out as we had (26) members and (1) guest teeing off at Maejo this Wednesday. Weather-wise it was an ideal day for golf will cool temperatures in the morning followed by warmer temperature but with light breezes later on during the finishing holes of your round. High season must almost be in full swing as it took most of our groups more than 4.5 hours to complete their respective rounds. Another reason was that our (7) groups all had to tee-off from Hole #1 tee box somewhat delaying the start for the later scheduled groups. Today we also welcomed back Tom Berger who will be joining us again for only the next (2) weeks. The following are the results of today’s competition ( 2 man best ball teams ): First Place: Net 64 Ron Hill and Jack Kuzina Second Place: Tie Net 66 Jeff Crosthwaite / Kim Anderson Dennis Byrne / Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich Third Place Net 67 Graham Adams / Yung Beece Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners!
Today’s motley crew: Kim, Ron , Jeff, Jack, Kuzie, & Dennis
Today we also had the opportunity to crown our 2014 Chiang Mai Social Golfer of the year Jeff Crosthwaite!
Trophy Presenters Harry and Christian and the winner Jeff
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday November 21, 2014 where the competition will be Stableford Nassau – tee-off 8:00 am
Lanna, 17.11.14
A wonderful morning golf and a good turn-out 19 CMSG and 1 guest and maybe new member headed out on the Lanna Golf course for a fun competition of 2 Person Best Ball Stableford golf. Being a 2 person best ball competition the Stableford points were on the high side for the most part. The team of Howard Aspin and a little help from Julian Wing took first place with 47 points. Second place went to two members that we hadn’t seen for sometime and that was Geoff Garrett and Ralph Hamilton who had 44 points. Good to see you again and hope to see you guys out with us more often. Third place went to Gary Burke and Kim Stogner with 42 points. Congratulation to our winners. We welcome back Mike Kason whose back in town and ready to play some golf. Next week at Lanna we’ll be back to just plain old Stabeford Golf so come on out and see just how many points you can score on the Lanna Course.

Another good turn-out as (23) members and (1) guest arrived on schedule at Maejo this Friday. As usual, we teed off both the front nine and back nine holes under sunny skies. As the round progressed the temperature became somewhat on the hot side especially for those who teed off the back nine and were slowed by a foursome ahead of them. As stated above the format was Stableford. Today we had a 3-way tie for first place being shared by Joop Schillemans, Keith Taylor, and Steve Metcalf who all posted a great score of (39) points. Today Steve Metcalf was not in the competition so the first place funds were share by Joop and Keith. We had a 2-way for second place between Harry Nieuwland and Dennis Byrne both scoring (35) points. Hats off to today’s winners!
Today’s Winners less Keith: Dennis, Joop, & Harry
In addition to the winners today, Ted Taylor donated (2) VIP passes for the 2014 Chiang Mai Golf Classic being held at Alpine. The recipients were John Noyes and Graham Adams. Thanks goes out to Thailand Teddy.

With a number of members playing up in Chiang Rai we had a good turn-out of (20) members and (1) guest this Wednesday at Maejo. Filling in as captain today was Ric Camerson who as usual takes charge and does a great job. Good work Ric. Relative to the Stableford Nassau results who else would win accept for acting Captain Ric with a great score of (38) points. Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich took the 1st nine hold title with a score of (21) points. The back nine with (18) points each was shared by Ram Taylor and Graham Adams. Congratulations to all of today’s winners!
Todays Winners: Ram, Ric, Graham, & Kuzie

Lanna 10.11.14
What a great day for golf at Lanna. Weather was warm, sky’s blue and the course was in great shape. As usual the greens were hard and fast, but that’s just Lanna. We had 21 CMSG and 2 guest out on the course for Stableford Nassau Competition With condition being so good we had some good scores in the upper 30 for total high points. The front nine went to Kim Stogner with 19 points. Richard Massey took the back nine with 20 points. The total 18 hole points went to Howard Aspen with 39 points. Congratulation to our winners. With the Northern Thai winter season coming on we welcomed two of our season golfers back. Allen Norris from the States and Gary Burke from Canada. Sorry Gary for not welcoming you back after the game, somehow you just got by me. Sorry to say we’ll be losing Ashley Kim Sing for a for two months but he say’s he’ll be back in January and with a little luck he’ll stay around for a while. Next week at Lanna the competition will be two person Stableford best ball competition. So come on out and have some fun.

Matchplay against the course
This Friday we had (17) members and (3) guests teeing off at Maejo. Possibly, the low numbers could be attributed to the steady early morning rain that finally ended 20 minutes prior to our scheduled 8:00 am Tee-off. We all teed-off on schedule and again off the front and back nine holes under cloudy skies and relatively cool conditions. Upon completing our round it finally cleared up after more than (2) days of steady rain. As stated above today our competition format was “Match play against the Course” with Calvin Davis taking first place honors with a fantastic score of +4. It should be noted that Calvin also registered (40) stableford points today. Taking 2nd place honors was Ric Cameron with of score of +1. 3rd place today goes to Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich with a (0) all square score. Also, we want to thank Calvin Davis for donating his winnings today into the CMSG kitty.
Today winners: Ric, Calvin, & Kuzie
Lastly, we all wish Ted Taylor a speedy recovery from his recent “Hip” operation. We hear Ted is doing fine and is on the way back to recovery which will take approximately 12-14 weeks of physical therapy and patience. It is anticipated that he will be back to his full golfing form in time for the annual “Piss Heads” tournament.
As always we look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday November 12, 2014 for a Stableford Nassau competition with a start time of 8:00 AM. Also on this date Ric Camerson will be the acting captain.

Stableford
This Wednesday we had (25) members and (2) guests teeing off at Maejo on our first day back after the “Annual Tournament”. We all commenced play on schedule off both the front and back nine holes. It was another ideal day for golf weather wise as we played all of our round under overcast skies with some light sprinkles of rain. It should be noted that after our round the skies opened up with steady rain over the next 4-5 hours. In addition, and for a change those groups starting off the back nine holes completed their respective rounds approximately 15 to 20 minutes ahead of those off the front nine. Relative to the scores Keith Taylor took 1st place honors today with (37) Stableford points. We had a tie today for 2nd place being shared by Nigel Stubbs and Graham Adams both registering (36) points each. Last but not least, Jim Hopkins took 3rd place with (35) points.

Lanna, 03.11.14
19 CMSG came out to Lanna for a fun game of Strike 3 Stroke Play golf, starting on the course 3 and ending on course 1 which makes for a long walk between the front and back nine. Even with blue sky’s we had a very light rain which was hard to figure out just what cloud it was coming from with all the blue sky’s over head. Scoring was good, for most golfers where in the low fifties after subtracting their handicap and three holes of their choice to get their net score. One golfer actually made it into the high forties (49) to take first place and that was Kim Stogner who just came back from the U.S.. There’s talk that he spent some time with Butch Harmon but that’s just talk. We had a try at net score 50 between Gary Lyon and Barry Oshitwa. Barry won out on count back to take second place leaving Gary to take third . Congratulation to our winners.
Next week at Lanna it’ll be Stableford Nassau, so come out and have some fun with the Lanna gang.

LANNA, 27.10.14
Just a small group of 13 CMSG went out on the Lanna course today and I’m sure it was because of the on going clubs annual tournament. The format of the day was Stableford Mates. Teams of two and alternating their shorts after teeing off until the hole is holed out. Like Stableford golf each golfer put down his Stableford points for the score he had. At the end of the round the two team members would add their Stableford points together for the teams Stableford points and the team with the highest points As it was, out of the 10 competitors (5 teams) only 3 finished the round still in the competition. I might add that play was very, very slow taking over 5 hours to play the round. Maybe that was because of the format. The format was simple, will maybe not some of the golfers said it was too confusing and maybe it was so I guess we’ll just put this format back in the file box way in the back. . The team of Steve Bjorge and Barry Ochitwa came in with a team high of 68 points to take first. Close behind them was the team of Gary Lyon and mark Morris with 66 points to take second. The team of Julian Wing and Lester Twigden came in a distant third with 47 points. Congratulation to the winning teams. Next week at Lanna and since it’s the first Monday of the month again we’ll be back to stroke competition. Strike 3 Stroke play will be the format of the day.

Maejo, 24.10
We had (10) members and (1) guest teeing off this Friday at Maejo. Again, the low turn-out is attributed to yesterday’s annual tournament match at Highlands. . Based on the limited numbers we all teed off on the #1 tee box under cool and cloudy conditions. After approximately (30) minutes we encountered light rain that turned into a heavy rain but it only lasted around (15) minutes at the most. As the round progressed the clouds dissipated whereby we finished the round under clear skies. The competition today was Stableford and taking first place honors with a blistering score of (32) points was Jack Kuzina. 2nd place went to Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich with (30) points and Harry Nieuwland taking 3rd place with (28) points.
Today’s Winners: Harry, Jack, Kuzie
Our next match at Maejo is scheduled for next Wednesday October 29, 2014 and is the 3rd leg of the 2014 Annual Tournament.
Maejo, 22.10.14
This Wednesday we only had (13) members and (1) guest teeing off at Maejo for our monthly stroke competition. This low turn-out is attributed to the Annual tournament played at Lanna last Monday coupled with the Highlands match scheduled tomorrow. We all started off the front nine today under overcast skies. The weather changed from being extremely humid to heavy rains right after we all completed our respective round. Relative to the winners taking first place honors today was John Noyes posting a net score of 72 strokes. Alone in 2nd place was Jeff Crosthwaite with a net score of 75. 3rd place results in a 3-way tie being shared by Harry Nieuwland, Kazuo Mitsunaga, and Nigel Stubbs all posting a net score of 76. Hats off to today’s winners!
Today’s Winner: The Bandit
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday where the competition will be Stableford: Tee off at 8:00 am
Maejo, 17.10.14
Another extremely large turn-out for a Friday round of golf at Maejo as (32) members and (2) guests participated in a Stableford Nassau competition. The Maejo Starter allowed (4) groups to tee-off the back nine and the remaining (5) groups off the front nine. Luckily today, none of the groups starting off the back nine were held up when making the turn from the 18th hole to the 1st hole. Subsequently, most of the groups completed their respective rounds in (4) hours or less. Relative to the weather we started the round under hazy conditions that, as usual for this time of the year, changed to clearer skies and hotter temperatures. Concerning the results we welcomed back John Noyes after his long absence who then posted a fantastic score of (22) points on both the front and back nine for a total of (44) points. We are also happy to report that John’s handicap dropped (4) strokes and he is now playing at (13). Taking the front nine holes was Dizzy Reeves posting a front nine total of 21 points. Dizzy was not in the competition money so Ric Camerson took the prize money with a score of (19) points. It should be noted that Ram Taylor also posted a score of (19) but was not present during the awards ceremony. The winner of the Back nine with (21) points was Heinz Olscher. Hats off to all of today’s winners!
Today’s prize money winners: Bandit John, Ric, and Heinz
Our next scheduled match at Maejo on Wednesday October 22, 2014 will be our “Monthly Stroke Play” format with a scheduled tee-off at 8:00 AM.
We don’t expect a large turn-out as the annual tournament is being played the preceding Monday at Lanna and the following Thursday at Higlands.
Maejo, 15.10.14
Today we had a good good turn-out as the most of the members, who traveled to Lao, returned Monday evening and participated in another Wednesday round of golf at Maejo. In total we had (24) members competing in a “Two Man Best Ball” competition with (4) groups going off the Front Nine and (2) groups teeing off the Back Nine holes. The round commenced under somewhat hazy conditions followed by clearer skies with tepmperatures relatively cooler than the past few weeks. The results of the competition are ass follows: First Place – net score of 63 Ron Hill and Jack Kuzina ( It should be noted that Ron Hill’s net score was used on 11 of the 18 holes) Second Place – net score of 66 Jeff Crosthwaite and Kim Anderson ( Mike and Dizzy Reeve also had a net score of 66 but did not enter the competition) Third Place – net score of 68 Ram Taylor and Dao Beece Hats off to all of today’s Winners!
Today’s Winners: Ron, Jack, Kim, Jeff ( Ram was not present for Photo )
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday where the competition will be Stableford Nassau – Tee off at 8:00 AM
Lanna, 13.10.14
Everyone most be resting up for the clubs Annual Tournament for only 12 CMSG where at Lanna this morning and one of those was a brand new members from New Zealand, Howard Aspin and his a good golfer too shorting a 38 on the front side but had a little trouble on the back side ending up with a round of 84. Welcome to the CMSG Howard. The competition for the day at Lanna was Stableford Nassau and I’m not sure if that was a good format to play since we had tie’s in all three areas of the competition. The front nine had a two way tie. The back nine had a three way tie too with all three golfers tieing for the overall high points as well. Since we had 11 golfers in the competition and 5 winners all winners got 200THB. The extra 100THB went to the overall high point winner which was decided by count back, The front nine was won by Keith Freeman and Gary Lyon with 20 points. The back nine went to mark Morris, Richard Massey and Allan Gariano with 19 points and all three had 35 points for the overall high total. Allan Gariano took the overall high points on count back. Congratulation to all the winners. Next Monday at Lanna will be the first round of the clubs Annual Tournament so show up early because we have over fifty players to get organized.
Richard, Keith Gary, Allan and Mack in the back
Mae Jo, 10.10.14
Today we had a Assistant Captain (Ric Cameron) leading a small group of 13 members with a large contingent in Lao. We started with a light fog but this cleared quite quickly giving us a clear but fairly warm round, all finishing under the 4 hours as there were few others out. Winning the day with 37 points was Bob Green followed tying for second place with 35 points was Ken Nalder and Ric Cameron. Congratulations to the winners. Captain Jack will be back on deck on Wednesday.
- Detail results will be posted next wednesday when Harry is back
Mae Jo, 08.10.14
Today we had a total of 18 members playing. For the first nine Holes the temperature was cool but it warmed up quickly on the back after the sun came out. Todays format was Stableford Nassau. Even though a contingency of our members are leaving today to play a tournament in Lao over the next few days we had some of those players coming out today for a last minute prep game. The scoring was rather on the low side except for Pung which had a great 42 Stableford points but was not in the money. Maybe at this point it is time to explain the difference between winning and not being in the money. The wager of Baht 100 is to the sole discretion of the Player and is by no means obligatory and has no influence on the order of Winners. In other words if a player decides not to pay a wager he/she still can win the competition just not receive his/her corresponded share of the total wager. We should refer in the future to members which do not take part of the wager as “not in the money” rather than “not in the competition”. So todays Winner by Score for the Stableford Nassau format was in first place and the Overall place Prajat (Pung) Bacchi with 41 points, Winner on the front 9 holes was Dizzy Reeve with 20 Stableford points and the Winner on the back 9 holes was Nigel Stubbs with 22 Stableford points. Congratulations to all Winners.
Competition Winner: Ron, Kim, and Nigel
The Captain at Mae Jo on Friday will be Ric Cameron. Please be there no later than 07:30 am for another Stableford competition.
Lanna, 06.10.14
After an early morning shower 21 CMSG and 1 guest took on the Pony side of Lanna and the number 1 course for the usual first Monday of the month stroke competition. With a little breeze for most of the day that kept the weather on the cool side and great for golfing. It was good to see a few members from the Mae Jo group testing their golf skills at Lanna before the Annual Tournament. Adam Jackson a new member at Mae Jo found Lanna to be on the easier side scoring a gross 82, no net score since he doesn’t have a handicap as yet but I’m sure it’ll be on the low side. Also adding to the CMSG rooster we pick up two new members. Richard Roehl and Kris Bell from the U.S. Welcome to the CMSG and to Chiang Mai. Now back to the competition. Scoring was good and once again we had a three way tri for second place. Graham Best, Darrell Pinney and Peter Haddon all coming in with a net 72. After having to use the count back system twice Peter came in second with Graham taking third, sorry Darrell you missed out by one point. As for first place Ric Cameron took it with a net 70. Congratulation to the winner. Next week at Lanna it’ll be Stableford Nassau Competition so come on out to get ready for the Annual Tournament by testing your golf skills at Lanna..

Mae Joe, 03.10.14net
We had a record turn-out today for a Friday as (31) members and (1) guest participated in a round of golf at Maejo. We also had (4) of our long standing members from Lanna join us today in celebration of Ric Cameron’s birthday. Happy belated birthday Ric. Luckily, the Maejo started allowed us to again tee off from the front nine and back nine holes as we had (8) flights going out today. Again, the round was played under extremely hot conditions as we had cloudless skies throughout our round. Even with all the flights most of the groups completed their respective rounds under (4) hours. Today the competition was “Match Play Against the Course” with our birthday boy Ric Cameron taking first place honors with a score of Plus 3. Second place honors went to Nigel Stubbs who posted a Plus 2 score. Finishing off in third place was Michael (Kuzie) Kuzmich with a Plus 1 score. Congratulations goes out to all of today’s winners!
Todays distinguished Winners: Kuzie, Ric, and Nigel
We look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday at Maejo where the competition will be “Stableford Nassau” with a tee-off time of 8:00 AM
Mae Jo, 01.10.14
Another great turn-out as we had (28) members and (1) guest teeing off for another round of Wednesday Golf at Maejo. Thankfully, but somewhat hesitantly, the starters agreed to let us tee off from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes. We all teed off on schedule under clear skies with the temperature rising though-out the morning and at the later stages of our round it became extremely hot. The groups that teed-off the back nine all completed their respective rounds approximately 30-45 minutes before those who teed-off the front nine. The reason being that a 4-some of Thai ladies teed off right before us which subsequently slowed our play. Regardless, it was another great day on the links coupled with most completing their rounds in (4) hours or less. Today we say good bye to Gary Cooke who is going back to work to make sure that Alonso gets a perfect car next year. See you again in April Gary, we wish you save travels and we are looking forward to see you next year. Today’s competition was Stableford with Nigel Stubbs taking first place honors with (37) points followed by Robert McPhee taking 2nd place with (36) points. Third place today was shared between Gary Cooke and Harry Nieuwland both posting a score of (35) points each.
Today’s Winners: Harry, Gary, Nigel & Robert
We look forward to seeing everyone this coming Friday where the competition will be “Match Play Against the Course” – Tee off 8:00 AM so lets all be at the club house a minimum of 30 minutes prior to tee-off.
