Heavy showers did not deter 12 golfers turning up for today’s Stableford event. There were 11 members and one prospective member, welcome to Ian Murray. One of our members DQ’ed herself when she found she had gone out with one too many clubs in her bag, well done. No rain after the first hole and we ended in sunshine. No takers for the ‘birdie hole’ yet again. The winner today was Lawrence Nahlik with 36 points, second was Peter ‘Smiley’ Haddon with 35 points and third was Brian Heuston with 34 points.

Lanna 1+2, 23.10.17
For the final leg of our 2017 Annual Tournament we had (43) members all arriving on schedule for our 8:20 tee-off time at Lanna. Due to the fact that only (2) of our groups were allowed to tee off of tee box 10 with the remaining (11) groups teeing off tee box 1 resulted in a longer than usual day on the course. Relative to the weather we had a sun shiny day with some cool breezes for most of our round.

Inthanon, 18.10.17 (2nd leg of 2017 Annual T
ournament)
We had (42) players all arriving on time under extremely wet conditions to kick off the 2nd leg of our 2017 Annual tournament at Inthanon. It should be noted that approximately 20-30 minutes prior to our 9:00 am scheduled start the rain continued while we all took cover under the driving range cover pondering if the match should be cancelled. At the 9:00 AM start time the rain diminished and we reluctantly proceeded to the assigned tee box and started the match. To all of us surprise and amazement the rain ended after (1) hole of play and we competed the remaining (17) holes of our round under cloudy skies but rain less conditions. In addition, even with the down pour of rain the course held up with no major negative effects on play accept of a few bunkers having water.
Relative to today’s winners we had some high if not record breaking scores for an Annual Tournament match.
The results are as follows:
Stable-ford Results
- 1st place Craig Morriss ( 43 points)
- 2nd place Tom Rowland (42 points)
- 3rd place Kenny Jones (41 points)
- 4th place with (40) points shared by Frank Schwarz, Gerry Brimacombe, Jack Kuzina

- Front Nine Ronny Peters (21) points
- Back Nine Ashley Kim Sing (21) points

Brian Heuston was a clear winner today on 38.
Lanna, 16.10.17
Deep joy as our ten members caught up with a Japanese six ball and a walking five ball extending the round to four and a half hours. the course was considerably drier than last week and hopefully will be even better for the annual tournament.
Leon Smiler took out the birdie hole, unfortunately on week one so no big bananas. in third on 31 points was Barry Ochitwa, second on 35 was Soren Neilson, but today’s big winner was Mark Morris with a great 39 points. congratulations to all.
Mae Jo,16.10.17

Geoffery Garrett:
With a saddened heart we are reporting that Geoff Garrett has passed away. Geoff was a long time member of the CMSG prior to him returning to New Zealand. Without question Geoff was extremely well liked and was always a pleasure having him play in our golf events. He will be surely missed by all whose life he touched!
We were informed of this sad news by the following e-mail sent out by his son Tom.
Hello

The details of Geoffrey Garrett’s funeral venue will be released on the Bay of Plenty Times on Monday 16th October 2017. However, I will give you a more advanced notice, so please see the detail below.

Royal Chiang Mai, 13.10.17
We had (49) members participating in the 1st leg of the 2017 annual tournament at the Royal Chiang Mai golf course. With everyone showing up on time we had an orderly and on schedule tee-off from both the #1 and #10 tee boxes. Due to the heavy rainfall the course was extremely wet resulting in implementing “Lift, clean, & place” rule.. Relative to the weather the round was played under extremely high temperatures but with no rain. All in all it was an enjoyable day with some cold refreshments afterwords.
The following is a summary of the results:
Closest to the Pin:
- Hole 3 – John De Jong (2 feet from the hole)
- Hole 17 – Joop Schillemans (5 feet from the hole)

Mae Jo, 11.10.17
What a top day for golf. A light drizzle to start with after a heavy shower for 6 hardy golfers thank’s to Ric Cameron with a birthday group off number 10 as it was empty. The rain started in on the last 2 holes where 1 player pulled out and the others waited it out to finish with Nigel taking out 1st. with a great 37 and Ric trailing in 2nd on 21. Well done Nigel. See you all at Royal on Friday.
Mae Jo, 09.10.17
8 members attended today’s Stableford Nassau with overcast conditions for the first half an hour. Then it was a hot, sunny and wet under foot round. Lift, clean and place was the order of the day after much rain yesterday. Scores were a bit average with the back nine being taken out by Barry Ralstone with 18 points, with Stuart Duncan taking the front with 17 points. Jim Hopkins took the overall with 33 points. Well done boys, hope to see a few more on Wednesday with the Lao boys back in town.
North Hill, 09.10.17
Don Bishop won today with 34 and Denise Reynolds second with 32. Don had to leave after the game so only a photo of Denise.
Lanna, 09.10.17
Firtsly the eight members present today want to wish Keith Freeman every good wish and hope he returns to the fold shortly.
The course conditions for a Stableford event on course 1&2 were to say the least very testing with thick rough and a lot of standing water. However, the long standing birdie hole fell at last, to Nigel Stubbs. The Stableford results reflected the course conditions! In second place on 29 points was Allan Gariano. I first place with a totally unimpressive 30 points was Nigel Stubbs.
Stableford on courses 1&2 again next week, and the birdie hole starts again on hole 1, course 2.
North Hill, 06.10.17
There were 17 members present for todays stableford Nassau event on a day which threatened rain but which resulted in over cast to sunny conditions. Random draw resulted in three groups off tee 1 and two groups off tee ten. Lift clean and place on fairways was introduced due to all the recent rains, but to be honest was not required as the course held uo pretty well. All I might add finishing on time. Once again the birdie hole escaped all and sundry but apparently today Leon shaved the hole. The winner today was Jack Cooper with 37 points,, the front nine went to Don Bishop with 22 points and the back nine went to Leon Smiler with 20 points.
Mae Jo, 06.10.17
Mud Balls!!! Whilst twelve members were living the high life in Laos, 13 members were slumming it at Mae Jo in today’s Stableford. Bizarrely carts were allowed on fairways in probably the wettest conditions this year, so no lift and clean. Tied for second place were John de Jong and Nigel Stubbs on 33 points. Today’s runaway winner was Stuart Duncan with 38 points. Congratulations.
as Stuart has featured in many photographs of late we took the photo after he had departed! Join us on Monday for Stableford Nassau.
Mae Jo,04.10.17
13 members played stroke today , and we just beat the rain. In 3rd. on net 78 was Gary in 2nd. on net 75 was John and our clear winner was Ronny on net 69. Well done to guys. Happy travels to Gary who heads back to work for 6 months and also our team going to Laos to play our friends in Vienteine.
North Hill, 02.10.17
Only 5 members today with Curtis Nickel being the winner on 31.
Mae Jo, 02.10.17
A good roll up for todays event, 18 members played stableford and the scores were a lot better for a change. In 3rd. on 35 points was Stuart in 2nd on 36 was Frank and todays winner on 39 points was Kuzie (been a long time coming) . The weather still sucks but winter is just around the corner. Hope to see a good roll up on Wednesday as well.
Lanna, 02.10.17
Another hot and humid day at Lanna saw 10 members struggle around courses 3+1. Too much long grass meant that there were some awful stroke scores. The course crucified some of us including the recently returned Mark Morris so there were no downward handicap adjustments. Tied for second place were Ashley Kim-Sing and Nigel Stubbs with Net 76, but the winner was Leon Smiler with Net 73.
I had to go to the office to confirm the cost of carts for the Annual Tournament – 600 baht I was told. So, if Green Fee (550) + Caddie Fee (300) = 850 baht, then Green Fee + Caddie Fee + Cart = 1450 baht right? WRONG: Green Fee + Caddie Fee + Cart = 1300 baht which is what I thought it usually was anyway. So the cart is 450 baht, right? Apparently not – the cart is still 600 baht but you get a 150 baht discount on your Green Fee. Ah – it is so much clearer now – the only way you would pay 600 baht for a cart would be if you didn’t play golf!!!! Go figure!
