Graham had a great score of 39 points but was not in the comp. thus, in 3rd. place was Heinz on 32 points in 2nd. was our birthday boy Randy on 34 points and our winner today was Kuzie on 35 points. Well done people. Even Frank joined us today for Randys birthday round. See you all again on Wednesday for our last 7.20 start. Friday we go back to 8 am starts for all our golf at Mae Jo.
North Hill, 26.02.18
6 members for today’s round. The round was pleasant — though I do believe some people would consider it slow. We had a group of 5 in front of us from hole #5 onwards and either tee-offs or approach shots were delayed on most holes sometimes both.
Speaking of slow play — in last Friday’s North Hill match report, complaints of slow play by me were made. Did the group in front get a hole or more ahead? — no — our group was occasionally delayed by them. Were the group behind delayed? — not that I can recall. So where is the slow play? By the way, nothing was mentioned to me during the round. In fact the first I knew about it was when I read the match report.
For those of you who don’t want to look at the pdf, or don’t have the technology, first on 38 was Curtis Nickel and second on 35 was Leon Smiler.
Over lunch I suggested that as it was getting hotter we should start earlier. Unfortunately, it is not possible for the next couple of weeks. There are still high season tourist groups around. See you next week for an 08:10 tee-off. We are sandwiched between tourist groups.
One of these days someone will remember to take a winners’ photo.
Lanna, 26.02.18
17 members for todays stableford on courses 1 and 2. We wish Yokio Doi safe travels as he returns to Japan for a few months. The birdie hole (pictured) again remains intact and will move to the 7th oncourse 3 next week. Strokeplay courses 3 and 1.
Some great scoring today. Third on 37 points was Kim Stogner. Second on 40 points was Gordon Langtry. Todays overall winner with 44 points and a massive handicap cut was Lawrence Nahlik. Congratulations all.
North Hill, 23.02.18
There were 15 members today, not bad after some played at Mae Moh Yesterday. Hot and mainly humid conditions today got the better of most. Welcome to Ron Howorth at this course and well done on coming in fourth place on the day. Also welcome back to Leon Smiler after his trip back home, unfortunately the break did not improve his golf. Soren played so well he knocked the head off his iron and still made par. A warning to all, it’s snake season, Yung came across a snake, big and ugly with a fish in its mouth at the water on left of hole two and another in a tree on hole five by the bunker. Be cool but be careful. No takers for the birdie hole. The winner today was Ian Fraser with 40 points although it has to be said there were complaints of slow play, runner-up was Don Bishop with 36 points, who once again shouted drinks after the game although I think he was hunting up players for the up coming piss heads tournament, and third was Garry Walker with 35 points and yes guys they were all off the red tees, time to step up and be counted you guys off the back tees.
Mae Jo, 23.02.18

Have a good weekend and I hope to see you all on Monday for our last noon tee time for winter.
Mae Moh, 22.02.18 – February 2018 Away Match
We had (18) members playing in a 2-person stableford best ball competition. Most everyone arrived on schedule with a few exceptions due to the long trek ( 2 hours +) from our home base in Chiang Mai. We kicked off the match a little after 10:00 am on what the majority of the players stated was a fantastic golf course. Relative to the weather, to everyone’s amazement, we had light showers and thunderous conditions for a few holes on the front nine. Other than this anomaly it was a great day weather-wise for golf! It should be noted that the pre-printed scores cards were totally erroneous as the information printed on the card taken from the course web page and were not the same as the course score cards. This little hick cup was easily resolved as we just used the course score cards.
Relative to the results:
First Place: Team of Ronny Peters and Jack Kuzina 48 Stableford points
Second Place: Team of Julian Wing and Lawrence Nahlik 44 Stableford points
Third Place: Shared by Adam Jackson and Graham Adams & Roscoe Butler and Tayakorn Butler
both teams scoring 43 points each.
The Winners Circle ( not the best picture )
Also, we would to take this opportunity to wish Roscoe and Tayakorn happiness forever as they were married last month.
In addition, today was Ronny Peters birthday – Happy birthday and thanks for getting that par 5 eagle today!
Lastly, in a few days we will be sending out the formal notice for next’s months “International Scramble” being held at North Hills. Start forming your country teams for this prestigious event!
Mae Jo, 21.02.18

Mae Jo, 19.02.18
10 menbers joined us for our 2nd last noon tee off in perfect golf weather. We had a 3 way tie for 2nd. on 31 points were Jack, Bob and Randy but our runaway winner today was Jay who had a great score of 39 points. Well done to todays winners.
North Hill, 19.02.18
8 members today in perfect weather on a perfect course. Today’s winner was Rob Grootenhuijs with 37 and second went to Don Bishop with 35. Next Monday tee-off time is 08:30. See you then.
Lanna, 19.02.18
18 members today in perfect weather for a stableford on courses 3 and 1. Welcome back to Lester Twigden and bon voyage to Gerald Greba. The birdie hole again remains unclaimed so off to hole ten next week for a stableford on courses 1 and 2. The moral of today is ‘you have to be in it to win it’! Gordon Langtry would have taken second prize with 37 points! However, tied for second on 32 points were 4 players, Julian Wing, Lawrence Nahlik, J J Walker and Garry Walker. Todays overall winner was Jim Lockhart with 38 points. Congratulations all.
North Hill, 16.02.18
There were 18 members turn out for today’s Stableford Round in the best weather Thailand has produced this year so far. After a random draw three groups went off 1st tee and two groups went off 10th tee with most completing their rounds in just over four hours. No takers for the birdie hole #6 yet again. Overall the scores were pretty ordinary with no one playing to handicap. The winners were tied on 33 points: Don Bishop and Milton Reynolds, and the runners-up were tied on 32 points: Mr Park and Chanitapha (Oil), I also need to mention that Mr Park had three birdies in his round today so promising much better scores to come. Roscoe and Nok joined us today and announced that they had been married during his break (hip that is) from golf. Also a big thank you to Don for shouting the beers for all after his horse won today in NZ. For those who asked about the North Hill members tournament the manager informs me that now they have over three hundred members so they will wait until after the high season and that it will most likely be in April so stand by for more information.
Mae Jo, 16.02.18
16 members for todays stableford round, which should have been 4×4 balls but after some confusion we had 1×4 ball and 4×3 balls. Sorry guys. In a tie for 3rd. today was Joop and Rob on 34 points, in 2nd. was Craig on 36 points and our winner was Ed on 38 points. Well done to our winners. As of the 1st. of March if your card has not been signed by yourself and the marker you will be excluded from any placings. This also means that once your card is handed in that is the score that will be recorded, no if’s and’s or butt’s. Thanking you in advance. Sorry there is no picture today.
Mae Jo, 14.02.18
A better roll up for todays game of stableford, 17 members and 1 guest. The weather again was very plesant and we all got around in close to 4 hours. In 3rd. place on 34 points was Rob in 2nd. on 35 was Ronny and our winner today was Gerald. Well done to our winners. See you all again on Friday.
Mae Jo, 12.02.18
A small field of 7 members played today in perfect conditions, although the scores did not reflect that. In 2nd. on 32 points was Joop and our winner on 34 points was Adam. See you all again on Wednesday (and a few more one would hope).
North Hill, 12.02.18
8 members played today on a really nice looking course. A total of 9 birdies were scored and these were spread among nearly all players. Soren Nielson had an excellent game and was today’s winner with 41. Brian Heuston came second with 37. See you next week for a 08:20 Tee off.
Lanna, 12.02.18
16 members for todays stableford on courses 1 and 2. The birdie hole remains unclaimed and moves to hole 7 on the racecourse nine for next weeks stableford on 3 and 1.
In third on 34 points was Barry Ochitwa, Second was Gerald Greba on 36 but todays runaway winner was Jim Lockhart on 39 points. Congratulations all.
North Hill, 09.02.18
Perfect weather, great course, where else would you want to be? There were 20 members present and in the stableford competition. No takers for the birdie hole, but plenty of birdies and an eagle from Yung Beece on the 11th hole, well done. Tied in third place were Milton Reynolds, Yung Beece, Curtis Nickel with 33 points. In Second place was Jack Cooper with 34 points having had vision restored. The overall winner on the day was current captain Garry Walker with 39 points. It has to be said that all players off the white tees were at a bit of a disadvantage today as they are returfing the usual white tees and as a consequence they were relegated to the back tees. No complaints, all happy that the course is being maintained properly. Well done to all concerned, see you all soon.
Maejo, 09.03.18
Another beautiful day to be on the links as (12) members and (1) guest teed-off on our early morning high season time of 7:20 am. Most groups completed their respective round under (4) hours under cool and slightly overcast conditions. Seeing that the Chinese New Year is only a week away hopefully it is the signal that our high season is ending. Today we had some impressive scores with (11) member increasing their handicap and the winner in the Buffer zone!

1st Place: Keith Taylor 34 points
2nd Place: being shared by Joop Schillemans & Nigel Stubbs 31 points

The Winner’s Circle: Nigel, Keith, Craig, Joop
North Hill, 05.02.18
Today we had 7 members at our normal time of 08:20 — on the front nine not as expected on the back. We started behind two groups of 3 and 2 but by the 3rd hole this had become one group of 5. This slowed played a little for our following group of 3 but only the occasional delay was experienced by our group of 4. The winners today were Brian Heuston and Camilla Dwyer on 34 and 32 respectively.
See you next Monday for 08:20 tee-off.
Maejo, 05.02.18
This Monday we had (8) members teeing off at our high season 12:oo PM noon time start. The weather was again great for golf as we played under sunny skies but with cool breezes. The course today was relatively quiet and the only groups slowing play was attributed to ourselves.
Today’s results are as follows:
1st Place: Andy Galwey 38 points
2nd Place: Iain Craig 32 points
3rd Place: Joop Schillemans 29 points
Today’s Happy Winners!
Lanna, 05.02.18
16 members for todays strokeplay event on courses 3 and 1. Just over 5 hours as we had to wait at the turn for half an hour, we were 15 minutes early and they were running 15 minutes late! We wish bon voyage to Allen Norris, see you in October. The local rules for Lanna are now posted on the website under the news section. The birdie hole again carries over to next week thanks to inch short Ken Nalder!
Third place went to Julian Wing with a nett 76, First tied were Peter Brown and Yokio Doi on nett 74. Congratulations. See you next week for a stableford on courses 1 and 2,
Maejo, 02.02.18
We had (12) members arriving in the early morning hours under again somewhat cool if not cold conditions. Based on the low attendance numbers over the past few weeks is attributed to our early (7:26 AM) high season start.
For some unknown reason two groups teed off in front of us so our start was somewhat delayed but we all completed our respective round of golf in approximately (4) hours.
Relative to the results:
1st Place 39 points Nigel Stubbs
2nd Place 36 points Ted Taylor
3rd Place 32 points Keith Taylor
North Hill, 02.02.18
After the monthly away yesterday it was obvious that some were going to struggle to turn up or for that matter play well today. There were 16 golfers today and not one played to handicap, two were not in the competition and one did not finish. It was Stableford Nassau and the winners tied with 34 points were Camilla Dwyer and Jim Lockhart. The front nine went to Victor Schneeweiss and the back nine went to Roger Mack. No takers for the birdie hole #6 in it’s first week. The course was busy yet again but well managed and all finished in reasonable time.
Royal Chiang Mai, 01.02.18 (February Away Match)
This Thursday we had (36) members and (2) guests forming (4) person teams for our first “Yellow Ball” competition. At this time we would like to thank Milton and Denise Reynolds and Peter Hadden for their suggestion to play the “Yellow Ball” format. As discussed, during our recent AGM meeting the majority of members suggested that we play other formats not just the Stableford events. Also, I would like to again thank all the participants of today’s match for arriving on time subsequently resulting in an orderly and on-time tee-off.
The course today was extremely busy but we managed to tee off on schedule off both the #1 and #10 tee boxes. It also should be noted that most groups completed their respective round in under 4-1/2 hours. For reference the course conditions were good with the fairways being somewhat dry and the greens were running on the slow side.
Relative to the results:
First Place with a team score of 122 strokes goes to:
- Peter Hadden, Jay Jones, Kenny Jones, Jim Lockart
Second Place tie with 138 strokes goes to:
- Joop, John,Jan, & Rob our Dutch contingent
- Don, Gordon, Gerry, Inge
As stated by the scores the first place team ran away from the field with an impressive (16) strokes better than the next place finishers – Well Done!
