Lanna, 25.06.18

17 members for today’s stableford on courses 1 and 2 where perfect golf weather prevailed. The player of the day mention goes to Haydn Patterson for a birdie on the 7th off a 39 handicap. The birdie hole again rolls over to hole 1 on the racecourse for next weeks strokeplay event. Yet again Ted Taylor was in the winners circle in third with 35 points, but today’s joint winners were Barry Ochitwa and Haydn Patterson with 36 points. A couple of parish notices. It is strongly rumored that the price next month will be 950 baht, green fee caddy and cart. Additionally our normal restaurant is closed for refurbishment for the whole of July. We have a reservation for this time at the Hole In One restaurant above the driving range.

Ted (yet again!), Barry and Haydn.

North Hill, 22.06.18

There were 22 members at North Hill today playing in a Stableford competition under cloudy skies and a few sprinkles of rain but that was all it was, a good day for golf under cloudy skies with a little humidity and no rain. Two new members  Jon & Russell were playing their fourth round for handicap soon to join us in  the regular weekly competition, well done guys.   There was a tie for third place on 36 points between Leon Smiler and Christian Friis, in second place with 37 points was Curtis Nickel and the winner on the day was Garry Walker with 44 points and four birdies on the back nine including the ‘birdie hole’ on #18.  Cheers everyone and I expect the handicap reduction will keep me out of the limelight for the rest of the year.

Christian, Garry, Leon, Curtis

Hariphunchai, 20.06.18

There were 8 members in todays Stableford round on a  course which has to be said is kept in ideal golfing condition.  Hot and Humid conditions as usual at this time of year and after heavy rains the previous evening there was some discussion prior to the game regarding  lift clean and place but all agree it was not necessary at the end of the day.  Camilla Dwyer is carrying on her good form and won the day with 35 points and in second place was Mr Park with 30 points.  All enjoyed the good food and drink after the round at what all agreed were very reasonable prices.  With everyone arriving at the course in good time we all need to be aware that we do have a scheduled tee-off time and we should not go to the tee-off area too early unless directed to do so by the course captain or the starter.

Maejo, 20.06.18

  • 2nd Place (33) points                   Jan Jumelet

Hats off to today’s winner!

16 members for todays stableford round, 15 in the competition 1 for handicap.  No takers for the birdie hole  but there were at least three with a chance in group one, but only one give it a good shot, well done Nigel, but no prize.  Soren today provided a bit of a display which embarrassed the caddies and some fellow players with some air conditioned shorts, hmmm very embarrassing, but a bit of a giggle for the caddies. The winner on the day was Camilla Dwyer with 36 points who was in the same group as Soren proving absolutely nothing could put her off.  In second place was a group of three tied on 35 points with Leon Smiler, Garry Walker and Christian Friies.  Hayden Patterson joined us after the game and has assured us he will join us next week.  A few drinks were had at the bar down the road and it was good to see Les and Norm back in their usual form with a visitor who expects to join us while he is here.

Lanna, 11.06.18

10 members for today’s stableford on courses 1 and 2. Light and intermittent rain made conditions very pleasant for golf, although it was heavy for the last three holes. The player of the day mention goes to Barry Ralston who quietly handed his card in from the second group having chipped in on the birdie hole. Only later did he find out that both Julian Wing and Nigel Stubbs had also birdied the hole in the group before! The birdie hole will be hole number 1 on the racecourse for next weeks stableford on 3 and 1. Tied for third today were Julian Wing and Ted Taylor on 33 points. Second was Barry Ralston on 34. Todays winner was Nigel Stubbs with 37 points. Congratulations all.

Ted, Nigel, Julian and Barry

North Hill, 11.06.18

Leon & Garry

There were 19 golfers turn out for the Stableford event today.  18 in the competition, 17 in the prize contention, 1 going for handicap.  No takers for the birdie hole on #18, hard hole admittedly, but the last one before we start to play all the holes again at North Hill.   Good round for the winner with 40 points, well done Milton Reynolds.  In second place was Camilla Dwyer with 38 points and in third place was our regular contender Leon Smiler with 35 points.  Plenty of potential contenders with three tied for fourth but OH for those missed putts.  Course still in great shape and relativeyly quiet allowing us to go off both tees. Congratulations to all and see you soon.

Maejo, 06.06.18

Today (9) members all arrived on schedule to compete in a Stableford competition under extremely hot conditions. We all teed off on schedule but caught up with a slow 4-some on the 4th hole.  Luckily they let (1) of our groups play thru but the remaining (2) groups were continually being bogged down by there slow play.  Fortunately, the course Marshall told them to repeat the front nine subsequently opening up the back nine for our groups.

Relative to the scores Jack Kuzina took 1st place honors with (39) points with 2nd place going to Alex Steward with (34) points.

Jack and Alex

For those interested in mother nature we had an extraordinary full circle rainbow surrounding the sun as we finished our round.

Hariphunchai, 06.06.18

First day at Haripunchai and we were happy to have 6 turn up. It was very hot and humid and those who walked and a couple carting felt the effects. Well done to Brian Heuston winning with 35 points and second was Leon Smiler with 31 points. Very good when Leon only had 2 points after 6 holes. Great recovery.

The single card indexing for both nine holes threw up a couple of annomalies in the scores, but we will get it sorted. We may have to look at indexing the holes 1 to 18 rather than 2 lots of 1 to 9.

The course is quite tiring to walk, but fortunately a cart will only add 300 Bart to your outlay for the day. Members walking is 600 Baht and carting 900 baht. Non members walking is 700 baht and carting is 1000 baht. Very reasonable. After finishing saturated and exhausted we will be taking advantage of carts next week.

While the course is quite difficult it is in very good condition. Greens and fairways very good, although rough a little long and sticky in places. Food and drink very reasonably priced with many meals 60 to 100 baht and a large Singha is 75 baht.

North Hill, 04.06.18

There were 8 members for todays Stableford round in hot and sticky conditions.  The winner today was Leon Smiler getting 4 birdies in the round, 3 on the front nine, and coming home with 38 points.  In second place having had a good front nine but fading on the back was Milton Reynolds with 35 points. In third place and unrewarded were the Ladies Camilla Dwyer and Denise Reynolds.  Congratulations to all and thank you to my stand in for the days activities.  See some of you at bowls tomorrow,  also some at Haripunchai on Wednesday, and the rest at North Hill on Friday.  Be good and if not be careful.

++++Leon Smiler+++++

Lanna, 04.06.18

The player of the day mention goes to Garry Walker for his birdie on the hole after the birdie hole! It carries over to hole 10 next week for our stableford on courses 1 and 2.
