Mae Jo, 31.05.17
22 players for todays stroke round. Some close results, in a tie for 3rd was Nigel,Tom,Calvin and Craig on net 74 and our winners on net 73 were Rob,Ric and Jeff. Congrats to those people. Hope we have good numbers again on Friday for a stableford event.
North Hill, 29.05.17
For today’s round we had 9 members. Despite the recent rains the course was in excellent condition and playing conditions were pleasant.
In first place on 36 was Camilla Dwyer and second went to Denise Reynolds on 35.
Lanna, 29.05.17
Due to the popularity of the stand in captain only 6 members and one guest arrived today, or was it the weather early morning?
In second place was Gary Cook on 33 points with todays winner Julian Wing on 34. Next week is strokeplay on courses 3 and 1.
Mae Jo, 29.05.17
12 players for our 7 club event today in rather pleasent conditions. We had a tie for 3rd. on 35 points was Adam, Craig and Kuzie in 2nd was Frank on 36 and our runaway winner was Jeff with 40 points. Just proves you don’t need to carry all those clubs to score well!!! Wednesday will be Stroke, hope to see you all then.
North Hill, 26.05.17
There were 13 members in attendance today under cloudy skies threatening rain, but not a drop was felt and the light cool breeze was very welcome. Course still holding up very well after recent heavy rains but with water extending beyond the hazard markers at edges of fairways. The tenth hole is proving to be a very difficult choice for birdie hole and is still available. The winner today was Roger Mack with 38 points, runner-up was Milton Reynolds with 35 points, third place was tied with Terry Yuill and Denice Reynolds on 33 points.
Mae Jo, 26.05.17
19 players for todays stableford round. We had a little rain just over half way around but it did not last long. Some good scores were recorded, in a tie for 3rd was Craig and Ted on 38 points in 2nd was Tom on 39 points (a great back 9 finishing birdy, birdy, par.) and our winner today was Andy on 41 points. Well done to all, have a good week end and see you on Monday for our 7 club event.
Gold Canyon – Away Game 25.05.17
We had a great turn-out for this month’s away game as 38 members all arrived at the course on-time resulting in a on-schedule tee-off time. Low and behold the doom day forecasters predicting torrential rain had it wrong again as we played the entire round under sunny to partly sunny skies. Of course, for this time of the year, the sun shine subsequently resulted in extremely hot temperatures but still more favorable then wet conditions.
Relative to Gold Canyon the course was in excellent condition from the fairways thru to the greens. For some, including myself, the greens at times were most difficult to read but for other there was no problem (especially for today’s winners).
Relative to today’s winners:
3rd Place: 3-way tie being shared by Frank Schwarz, Fergal Barry-Murphy & Tayakorn Saenjuy (35 points)
2nd Place: Alone in 2nd place was Leon (the kiwi) Smiler posting a score of 36 points
1st Place: Taking top honors were Gary Cooke & Rob Grootenhujis both posting an impressive 39 points
Fergal, Rob, Gary, Tayakorn, Frank, Leon
As reviewed during our lunch our next scheduled away match will be on Tuesday June 27,2017 at Royal Chiang Mai golf course. This is our annual competition between Sanuck Sabai and the GMSG. This year the event is being organized by Sanuck Sabai. Please note that will be only (20) players from each golf society.
Inthanon, 24.05.17
12 members and 1 guest turned up for a pleasant morning of golf on a pretty much empty Inthanon course apart from a few visiting Koreans. The rain held off and we had Denise Reynolds playing a blinder with 3 birdies (on the front 9), several pars and even a few wiped holes to win with a very impressive 46 points leaving the rest of the pack well behind. Tied for second place were Kim Stogner and Leon Smiler with 36 points each with Kim taking honours on count back.
A few members who have kept the Wednesday Inthanon captaincy alive recently will be away for the next few weeks/months, so if any others are able to help out would they please contact the committee and offer their services.
Mae Jo, 24.05.17
19 members played todays stroke nassau round in what turned out to be very wet conditions. On the front we had 2 players on net 36 being Craig and Gary, the back was taken out by Tom with net 34 and todays winner was Adam with a net 70. Well played gents. Hope to see you all again on Friday for a stableford event.
North Hill, 22.05.17
9 members turned up for hot and humid round. Terry Yuill was the clear winner on 44 with Milton Reynolds and Gary Cooke tied for 2nd place on 33. The birdie hole #16 after 7 weeks is still waiting.
Lanna, 22.05.17
Today saw 14 members and our recent regular Swedish guest (Tore) turn up for what can only be described as a “4-hour sauna” around a steamy hot Lanna Golf course. Members were soaked to the skin after 2 holes as the water evaporated from the fairways and the somewhat tardy greens.
Good to see our Thai ladies join in again and score quite well, but only one of them made it to the winner’s podium this time. Today we had a 4-way tie for first place with Julian Wing, Kim Stogner, Nigel Stubbs, and Prajat Bacchi all getting 33 points. Again there was no winner of the Birdie Hole #6.
Nigel Stubbs will be your Lanna captain for the next 3 weeks when hopefully there won’t be so much rain around, so please come and give him plenty of work to do.
Mae Jo, 22.05.17
16 members and 1 guest today in very, very humid conditions. We had a tie for 2nd on 38 points were Jack and Keith and our winner today on 40 points was Dianne. Well played people ! Wednesday will be stroke nassau, hope the weather improves, see you all then.
North Hill, 19.05.17
18 players today, 14 members and four guests. Unbelievable considering the rain all night and early morning, I was not expecting many at all. We had a later start as the golf course thought they needed a half hour for the water to drain away, but the course was in great shape. Very nice to have the guys from Sanuck Sabai join us today and socially after the game. Very good scores in today especially the winner Milton Reynolds with 46 points, runner up Soren Nielsen with 38 and Leon Smiley with 36 points. well done everyone and see you again soon.
Mae Jo, 19.05.17
15 players today in much better conditions than Wednesday although it still caught some off guard thinking it was still raining. In 3rd place on 36 points was Adam, in 2nd on 38 points was Kuzie and our winner today was Kenny with 39 points (he drained some very looong puts). Well done to all, sorry no picture as I forgot to take one. Monday will be stableford, have a good weekend see you all next week.
Mae Jo, 17.05.17
Well 7 members turned up for todays event in very wet conditions, only 4 played and 1 droped out after 9 holes which left 3. So in 3rd was Jomo on 25 in a tie for 1st was Steve and Calvin on 36 points. Sorry no photo of our drowned golfers, I must admit you guys are much keener than most !!! We can only hope that the rain holds off for our game on Friday.
North Hill, 15.05.17
7 members played in today’s round. Due to the recent rain and also excellent maintenance the course was looking particularly good. The greens are still a little slower than to what we have become accustomed these last few months.
However Milton Reynolds overcame this, most probably because he is relatively new to the course, and finished a clear winner on 41. In second place, doing a Blues Brothers impersonation, was Brian Hueston on 32.
Jack Cooper is back from a couple of months in England and noticed the difference in heat and humidity. Even after showering he still took a while to recover.
Maybe a few more players will turn up next week.
Lanna, 15.05.17
Not many takers for today’s Lanna game – only 9 members and 1 guest. The course was looking a bit scrappy, particularly in and around the bunkers, and the greens were slow. Anyway the pace was good and rounds only took about 4 hours.
Today was supposed to be a Stableford Nassau, but there were too few players so it reverted to Stableford, which didn’t matter because the same people would have been on the winner’s podium anyway.
There was a tie for runner-up between Kim Stogner and Peter Brown who had 37 points each, but the overall winner was Jomo Mac Dermott with 38 points. The rest of us didn’t do too well.
Stableford again next week – Ladies welcome!
Mae Jo, 15.05.17
13 players for todays 2 man scramble event an odd number of players so we had to regig a little. 3 x 3 man and 2 x 2 man. In second with a net 64.5 off 11.5 handicap was Jack,Calvin and Kenny and our winners today with a net 61.2 off 6.8 handicap was Adam, Jeff and Kuzie. Well done to those people. Wednesday will be a stableford event, hope to see you all then.
North Hill, 12.05.17
There were 17 members present today for a stableford round all going off in handicap order. Not one solitary birdie was scored in todays round. Extremely high humidity today had every one scrambling for extra fluids. The winner today was Roger Mack who had 36 points and three tied for second, Leon Smiler, Keith Freeman and Terry Yuill all with 34 points. Well done everyone, come back again soon.
Mae Jo, 12.05.17
20 members rolled up for todays stableford event in very humid conditions. In 3rd. place on 34 points was Gary ( welcome back ) in 2nd spot was Stuart on 35 points and our winner today (even though he screwed up 18) was Jack on 36 points. Well done to all. Inthanon, 10.05.17
A very pleasant start to the day. Eleven members turned up to an virtually empty course once again. Scoring seems to have improved over previous weeks and today’s winner was Brian Heuston on 38 points with Kieran Savage second on 37.
Mae Jo, 10.05.17
21 players for our stableford nassau event today. Taking out the front with 20 points was Tayakorn the back was split between Andy and Steve on 21 points, but our winner was Craig with 37 points. Well done to our winners today, see you all again on Friday.
10.05.2017 – Stableford Nassau Maejo
North Hill, 08.05.17
Excellent weather for today’s Stableford round at North Hill for the 6 members playing. Because of the overnight rain the greens were marginally slower and took a few holes to become accustomed to.
Today’s winner was Camilla Dwyer scoring 34 without the loss of a ball. In fact she used the same ball for the entire round. Second place on 32 went to Milton Reynolds. Unfortunately Milton didn’t finish the round with the same ball.
Lanna, 08.05.17
Lovely weather for today’s Stableford round at Lanna where 14 members and 1 guest tried once again to outdo the course. Because of the wind and rain the previous night the course was littered with moveable objects such as branches and leaves but was otherwise in good shape. Today the greens were also in good condition and very predictable.
No Lennart Larsson this week because he has fallen off his motorcycle (nothing too serious apparently) – so we wish him a speedy recovery. Now, we are not sure what performance enhancing material the recently returned Kim Stogner found after playing 12 holes but we would all like to have some of it – he scored 19 points on the last 6 holes (do the maths) to take 3rd place with a total of 32 points. Runner-up was Peter Brown with 33 points, and 1st place went to David Urlwin-Smith with 34 points. See you all next week for Stableford Nassau.
Mae Jo, 08.05.17
Only 10 players forour comp. today. In 3rd on 33 points was Ted in 2nd on 34 was Adam but our runaway winner today was Jack with a round on 43 points. Well done to all our winners. Stableford Nassau on Wednesday, see you then.
North Hill, 05.05.17
A nice even 16 members turned out for our Stableford Nassau event today. It has to be said that after the heavy rain in the early hours this morning that the course has no drainage problems at all as the whole course was in perfect shape. No doubt the reason for all the good scores today. The front nine was tied between Camilla Dwyer and Milton Reynolds with 21 points, the back nine went to Ralph Hamilton with 20 points and the overall winner on the day was Tayakorn Saenjuy with 41 points.
Mae Jo, 05.05.17

Todays winners were, in 3rd place on 35 points Andy, in 2nd on 36 was Kuzie and todays winner was Tom on 37 points. Congrats to all the winners, have a good weekend see you on Monday.

Inthanon, 03.05.17
Twelve members turned up today and the heat was already upon us at the start. As usual we had the course to ourselves. Inthanon welcomed back Terry Redding from his walkabout, and Denise and Milton Reynolds also showed up for the very first time. There was some good scoring despite the heat with Darrell taking first place on 38 points and continuing his rich vein of form was Leon in second place with 37 points.
Mae Jo, 03.05.17
Todays format was 2 BBB. 18 menbers attended in very warm conditions. In second place with 43 points was Ric and Stuart and todays winners were Calvin and Nigel on 45 points. Calvin had 38 on his own. Congrats to todays winners. Stableford on Friday see you all then.
North Hill, 01.05.17
For today’s Stableford game we had 7 members. The winner on 36 was Ralph Hamilton and second on 34 was Terry Yuill.
Lanna, 01.05.17
Another warm and sunny day for 13 members and 1 guest to traipse around Lanna courses 3 & 1 in Stroke-play format. Some of us found the actual racecourse sand too many times and there were also q x 3 balls uite a few occurrences of double figure scores on some holes. Obviously some of us need to practice more.
There was a tie for Runner-up position with Ashley Kim-Sing and Steven Bjorge both achieving net scores of 73, but the overall winner was Leon Smiler (who must have finally decided that it is better to stay on the correct fairway) with net 71.
Mae Jo, 01.05.17
Only 11 players today for our stroke round in very warm conditions. We had a tye for 2nd. place between Adam and John with net 77 and our winner for today was Jim with a net 75. The scores were no where near that of Friday. Wednesday will be a 2 BBB. Hope to see you all then.
