Maejo, 28.06.17

Today we had (13) members and (1) guest teeing off at Maejo for our monthly Stroke competition. We all completed our rounds in less than (4) hours with the groups going off the back nine holes finishing approx. 20 minutes ahead of those going off the front nine holes.   Again, no rain as we played our round under cloudy skies but somewhat on the hot side as the sun came out for the last couple of holes.

After somewhat of a mix up concerning the finishing scores we got it straightened out with today’s winners as follows:

  • 1st place:                               Adam Jackson – Net 70
  • 2nd place:                             Craig Morriss – Net 72
  • 3rd place tie:
    • Michael Kuzmich   –  net 73
    • John De Jong           –  net 73

Congratulations to today’s winners!

                                                                                 John, Craig, Adam, & Kuzie

Prior to announcing the results we would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Dimella for coordinating all aspects of today’s match and also thanks to Frank Schwarz for supplying the team score cards coupled with logging  in all the team scores and compiling the results.

Relative to the results there was a total of (39) points up for grabs with the final tally being the CMSG scoring (25) points to the (14) points scored by SSSG resulting in the CMSG winning and retaining the cup in 2017.

Only 4 members for today’s round. In first place was Camilla Dwyer 0n 36.

I hope to see more players next week.

Camilla

Lanna, 26.06.17

Only 8 members and 1 guest for today’s Lanna round. The previous night’s rain had been well absorbed so carts were allowed on fairways and our 3 groups started as usual around 8:10am. Welcome back to Gary Cooke and Yukio Doi who have both been absent for a long period, but our reduced number today was probably due to the match being played tomorrow at Royal Chiang Mai.

Today we only had 2 placings: Lawrence Nahlik was Runner-Up with 33 points, but the Winner’s Cup went to Kim Stogner who impressed his playing partners with a 40 point score – even getting 18 points in the first 5 holes of the back-9.

Next week is Stroke Play around Courses 3 & 1, so hope to see you all then.

Kim & Lawrence

North Hill, 23.06.17

There were 18 members in today’s stableford round after a random draw of five groups but having to all go off the first as the back nine was already booked.  Clear skies and gentle breezes made for great conditions for golf.  Unfortunately slow play is still a bit of a problem, please remember to clear the greens as quickly as possible and be mindful of the groups behind you at all times.  The winner today was Brian Heuston with 39 points even suffering the frustrations of playing in the last group, in second place playing to his handicap with 36 points was Yung Beece and third was Milton Reynolds with 34 points.

Milton, Brian, Yung

Lanna, 19.06.17

It was a nice day for golf at Lanna today with some dew on the fairways and not too much sun. The expected influx of masses of Mae Jo players did not eventuate, leaving only 15 members to form 4 groups all of which finished in around 4 hours. Lanna was playing tough today so even the third placed winner ended up having a handicap increase.

In that third place was Lawrence Nahlik with 30 points. Runner-up was Julian Wing with 33 points, but first place went to Tom Berger with 35 points who also took out the Birdie Hole #6 which had been accumulating for 9 weeks – a nice little earner for Tom.

See you all next week for more of the same and hopefully some better scores.

Lawrence, Tom, & Julian

North Hill, 19.06.17

A great roll up with 3 members playing stableford. With the course being essentially empty we were able to complete the round in less than 3.5 hours. Today’s winner on 35 was Ian Fraser. For a change it was decided not to award 2nd and 3rd place.

Ian Fraser

Mae Jo, 16.06.17

A great roll up with 25 members playing stableford comp. today. In a tye for 2nd was Nigel and Frank on 37 points and our winner today 1 point better was Andy on 38 points. Well done guys. There will be no golf at Mae Jo on Monday the 19th. as it is the caddy tournament. Have a good weekend and see you all on Wednesday for a stableford comp.

Nigel,Andy and Frank.

North Hill, 16.06.17

There were 17 members present for today’s stableford round with three threes going off the front nine and two fours going off the back nine all finishing in good time under cloudy skies which provided relief from both sun and humidity.  No takers for the birdie hole #10 again although there were plenty of birdies scored in todays round.  Some good scores with Leon Smiler claiming the win with 40 points and a tie for second between Christian Friis and Brian Heuston with 38 points.

Christian, Leon, Brian.

Inthanon, 14.06.17

Today at Inthanon there was 9 players. It was nice to see Terry back and got him to win. With the rain they have had it looking a lot greener.

Leon & Terry

Mae Jo, 14.06.17

21 members for todays stroke nassau event in very humid conditions. Taking out the front was Calvin with net 33 and the back also on net 33 was Steve and our winner today was Jeff on net 68 just piping Tom by 1 shot. Well done people. Hope to see you all on Friday for our stableford event.

As you can see the boys were in quite good spirit.                 Steve,Jeff and Calvin.

I must apoligise to Dennis for a oversight on my part, he also had a net 33 on the back 9. Thus Steve and Dennis won the back 9. I’ll buy you a beer Dennis.

North Hill, 12.06.17

We had 7 members playing today — we would have had eight but one retired hurt before the game. At the start some people thought we not get around without rain — fortunately that didn’t happen.

Today’s winner on 37, without the loss of a ball for the entire round, was Milton Reynolds. Garry Walker, our Friday Captain, came in second on 36.

Hopefully a bigger group next week — See you then.

Garry & Milton

Lanna, 12.06.17

Many members are obviously missing Captain Keith as only six arrived today for a stableford in great golfing conditions. Keith returns next week, and with Mae Jo being closed a couple of extra tee times have been secured to accomodate any migrants. As far as todays results are concerned, the scoring was, to say the least, poor!

In third place on 29 points was Peter Brown, second on 30 points was Nigel Stubbs. First place honours go to David Urlwin with 32 points. This was Davids last game for a while as he begins his international travels. We wish you bon voyage David.

Nigel and David

Mae Jo, 12.06.17

Maejo, 9.6.17

This Friday we had 20 members for our Stableford competition.   Again, for a change, we did not experience any precipitation, but luckily had some cloud cover as it was extremely hot when the sun was out.

Today’s winners are as follows:

1st Place:                          Frank Schwarz        (37) points

2nd Place:                        Tom Berger             (36) points

Hats off to today’s winner!  Tom, Frank, & Rob

Also, do not forget that there will be not golf at Maejo on June, 19, 2017.  Most are planning to play at Lanna that Monday.

North Hill, 9.6.17

Today 18 members turned up for a stableford round in overcast and Humid conditions. The birdie hole #10 goes unclaimed once again but Jack, who got it in the Festival event which did not count and putted for it this week and missed, swears that it is his for sure next week.  The winner today was Leon Smiler who for once kept it on the straight and narrow almost driving the par 4’s and came home with 38 points. Runner-up was Lawrence Nahlick who is showing some form again with 34 points, Third was a family affair with Brian & Camilla coming in with 32 points.  Well done everyone although the last group was a bit on the slow side and should keep that in mind next time out.  See you all next week if not sooner.

Lawrence, Leon, Camilla, Brian

Inthanon, 07.06.17

Hope to see everyone this coming Wednesday for a Stableford Nassau competition.

North Hill, 05.06.17

Nine members played today in pleasant conditions, perhaps a little bit humid, but after all this is Thailand.

The Birdie Hole after 8 weeks was finally conquered by Milton Reynolds who, perhaps fittingly, was today’s winner on 36. A close second on 35 was Christian Friis.

Christian & Milton

Lanna, 05.06.17

Twelve members and one guest for todays strokeplay event over courses 3 and 1. The perseverance award went to an unnamed player who recorded a 15 on a par 3!

In third today was Jack Cooper with a nett 75, second was Tom Berger with a nett 72. Todays overall winner was Kim Stogner with a nett 71. Congratulations to all and we will see you next week for a stableford on courses 1 and 2. The birdie hole, number 6, rolls over for yet another week.

Tom, Kim & Jack

North Hill, 02.06.17

There were 18 golfers today for a Stableford Nassau event.  The course is still holding up well after all the torrential rain for the past week but I am sure like most courses it is close to its saturation point. Overcast and humid conditions for todays event.  Some good scores with Smiley winning the overall with 41 points much to Yung’s regret as he had 40 points after missing his putt on the 18th. Front nine winner was Tayakorn with 22 points and back nine went to Soren with 20 points.

Tayakorn, Smiley & Soren

Slow play:  Today we had one of our groups fall two holes behind (this is not the first time).  Come on guys it’s not rocket science.  If there is one clear hole ahead of you the proper etiquette is to call the group behind through.  With the exception of par 3’s if you step on the tee box and the group in front of you has already left the green then that should be enough warning that you are playing slow.  If your on the fairway or the green and the group behind you are waiting to play a shot then you know you are playing slow.

Mae Jo, 02.06.17

A big roll up for todays stableford round,26 members in very humid conditions. In 3rd was Steve on 38 points in 2nd on 39 was Tom and our winner today was Gary on 41 points, good scoring people. It was discussed today after the round amongst the members what we should do about the 15th. hole in regards to the rubber tree area, it was by unanimous vote that the ball will now be played where it lyes, no free drop into the waste area. This will take effect as of Monday the 7th. Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday for a stroke event.

Steve, Gary and Tom.
