Match Reports December 2017

North Hill, 29.12.17

There were 12 Members front up today in cool but perfect conditions for golf.  While it seems that colds/flu abound and a few stayed away but a few made of sterner stuff fronted and played anyway.  Busy course again but to be expected in the high season.  We had a couple who DNF.  For those who completed the round the winner was Denise Reynolds  who conquered her fear of the seventh with a birdie and managed 37 points. Tied in second place were Leon Smiler and Roger Mack with 35 points, but much to Leon’s disgust he hit the green on the birdie hole par 5 for two but could only manage a par, Bugger. Tied in third with no prize were Don Bishop and Garry Walker with 32 points.  After the game we welcomed Haydn patterson and family back in country for a few weeks who will be playing next week with a few non-regulars in the North Hill members Birthday deal.  cheers everybody and a Happy New Year to all, Sawadee Pei mai.

Roger, Denise, Leon

Mae Jo, 29.12.17

11 members and an ex-member (Stuart Leckie) played today in what could only be classified as perfect conditions for golf. We had a 2 way tie for 2nd. on 36 points were Jack and Kuzie and todays winner 72 off the stick 41 points was Ronny, well done people. Golf as usual on Monday at 12.00. Have a good weekend and Happy New Year to all!

Kuzie , Ronny and Jack.

29.12.2017 – Stableford Maejo

Maejo 25.27.17

This Wednesday we had (9) members teeing off at Maejo under rainy and cold conditions.  To say the least the consensus of most of the players was that it was one of the worst weather conditions  in all their years playing golf in Thailand.   One of our smarter members Keith Taylor picked up after (5) holes with most of the remainder of players stating that if the rain continued while on the (9) hole they would also pack it in.  As usual the rain stopped on the (9) hold so everyone continued onto the back nine holes but after the (12) hole that rain re-appeared but under colder conditions.  As an understatement most  of the players wished they stayed home!

Relative to the results we had a 4-way tie for First Place with a fantastic score of (29) points!

  • Stuart Duncan
  • Jan Jumelet
  • Nigel Stubbs
  • Ric Cameron

We thank Stuart and Jan for donating their winning to our Charity as they did not join the group at the “Caddy Shack”.

Nigel & Ric

27.12.2017 – Stableford Maejo

Lanna 25.12.17

Merry Christmas. Today we had Rudolph the Red Tee Stableford, all off the red tees with 11 members and one guest. Welcome back for a brief visit to Jefferey Dwyer. Hopefully the scores would improve off the red tees but for most it was an epic fail!! The birdie hole did go to David Urlwin Smith, congratulations. Today’s star performers were John Orlebeck in third with 32 points. Second was Yokio Doi with 33 points and todays winner was Barry Ralston with 35 points. Congratulations to all todays winners. I have to say I have never seen the course in better shape. Fairways cut tight and quick greens (really!!) Next week stroke play on course 3 and 1 for those of you without a hangover.

Yokio, Barry and John.

Mae Jo, 22.12.17

This Friday we had (7) members arriving at Maejo under extreme frigid conditions.   It was hard to believe we were in Thailand but eventually as the sun rose it warmed up.  Basically, we player in ideal conditions except for the first 3 to 4 holes prior to the sun rise.

The scoring today was fantastic with some extremely excellent results:

1st Place :        Nigel Stubbs  with 34 points

2nd Place:       Stuart Duncan with an impressive (30) points

3rd Place:        Alex Stewart with (29) points

It should be noted that due to these players enthusiastic attitude, based on their excellent results, they graciously   donated (500) baht to our charity.

Please note that for those interested in playing a morning round of golf at Maejo on Christmas day Stuart Duncan has reserved (8) tee times for 7:30 am.  Please note that the normal 12 noon round had been cancelled.

North Hill, 22.12.17

There were 13 members turn out for today’s Stableford event in cool conditions on a busy course.  I guess the high season is now in full swing as we had a slow round today on a busy course even though we went off both tees.  No takers for the birdie hole and in fact only one birdie scored in todays round.  The winner today was Don Bishop with 34 points, runner-up was Jim Lockhart with 33 points and third was Garry Walker with 32 points.  Well done  and a Merry Christmas to one and all.

JIM, DON, GARRY

*****NOTE : TEE-OFF TIME FOR MONDAY 25/12 AT NORTH HILL IS 8am*****

Hariphunchai – December 2017 Away Match – Scramble

35 members all arrived on time resulting in an on-time start for our December away game.  It should be noted that for those members who never played this course previously were highly impressed with all aspects of the facility from the free coffee prior to our start, the friendly staff, on to the impeccable tee boxes, fairways and greens.  As mentioned by a few of our members some of our local Chiang Mai courses should travel to Lamphun and  witness how a course should be operated.

Relative to the results we had some great scores:

1st Place

Team “Speedy Gonzales” finishing 40 minutes behind the group in from of them but posting a gross score of 68 (Net 58.25) comprised of John Noyes, Jim Lockhart, Darrell Pinney and Ian Car.

There will be no orginized golf at Mae Jo next Monday being Christmas Day. We still have tee times should somewon wish to play. Remember Noon on Mondays. Hope to see a few more on Wednesday.

 Lanna 18.12.17

16 members at Lanna for todays stableford on course 1 and 2. Some were away getting some sneaky practice at Haripunchai ready for thursday! Perfect weather prevailed but the scoring did not match the perfect conditions in most cases. In third was Barry Ochitwa with 32 points, tied for first were Jim Lockhart and John Orlebeck with 36 points. Congratulations to the winners. Next week will be Rudolph the Red Tee stableford on course 1 and 2. Everybody playing off the red tees. See you all on Christmas Day.

North Hill, 15.12.17

There were 22 golfers roll up today’s Stableford round, 18 members and 4 visitors.  Milton and Denise elected to just play a social round with their family at the back of the field and the rest of us went off front and back in what would have to be considered perfect weather for golf.  No takers for the birdie hole, in fact only one birdie on the day.  The winner today was Soren Nielsen with 35 points, runner up was Jack Cooper with 32 points and third was Lawrence Nahlick with 31 points.

Lawrence, Jack, Soren

North Hill, 11.12.17

There were 5 members for today’s event.  The winner was Brian Heuston with 30. The course, in all aspects, is looking particularly good. Perhaps the low Stableford scores were the result of loss of concentration due to an unusually slow round of 4.5 hours.

Maejo, 11.12.17

This Monday for our noon tee off time we had (8) members showing up to complete in a Stable-ford Nassau competition.   The weather today was on the hot side but some late afternoon clouds made it more bearable.  We also completed our round in under (4) hours resulting in another great day to be on the links.

Relative to the Scoring:

1st place with (39) points goes to Ronny Peters

Front nine with (19) points goes to Jim Hopkins

Back nine with (19) points went to Randy Teisl

The Winner’s Circle:  Jim, Ronny, & Randy

In closing it was nice to see Randy back playing and also a fond farewell to Frank Schwarz whose golfing career at Maejo comes to a close.   Please note that this does not equate to Frank’s golfing career has ended- only at Maejo for the near future.

Lanna, 11.12.17

A very slow day as 21 members and one guest followed two slow six balls for todays stableford event on course one and two. We welcome back David Urlwin-Smith in a playing capacity today. The birdie hole on hole ten was re-started and the very small pot taken by the stand in Captain Mr Stubbs!

The scoring was very average and tied for third was Inge Persson and Nigel Stubbs on 33 Points. Second place went to Allen Norris on 34 points and the only person playing to his handicap in first place on 36 points was Yokio Doi.

Next week is stableford again, start times in order of arrival, so if you dont want to play with the  Captain or Allan arrive later!!!

Inge, Allen, Yokio and Nigel

North Hill, 08.12.17

Today’s stableford event had 17 starters, 15 members, 1 previous member requalifying for handicap welcome back Jim, and one kiwi visitor here to keep an eye on Leon.  We all went off a bit early on both tees in handicap order.  Cloud cover kept sun and temps down for all the round in most enjoyable conditions.  No takers for the birdie hole, but as always a few close shaves.  The winner today was Leon Smiler obviously trying to impress his guest with 37 points.  In second place was Milton Reynolds  with 35 points and a tie for third between Don Bishop and John Noyes with 33 points.

Don, John, Leon, Milton.

Maejo, 08.12.17

This Friday for our early 7:20 AM start we had 15 members all arriving on time and assigned into groups by our illustrious temporary captain Ric Cameron.  As per our reserved tee off times we had (2) groups going off #1 tee box and (2) groups going off of #10 tee box.

Relative to the weather we played under ideal conditions with all group completing their respective round in (4) hour or less.

North Hill, 04.12.17

There were 4 members for today’s event with 3 in the comp and one putting in his fifth card for handicap.  The winner was Don Bishop on 35.

North Hill, 01.12.17

There were 18 members fronting up for todays Stableford Nassau event with 17 in the comp and one still going for handicap.  Mind you a couple of them had trouble finding the course, but in the end made it before tee off, just.  No one took out the birdie hole and life goes on.   there were two overall winners with 38 points being Allen Norris and Roger Mack.  It might be said that Allen played his pants off as his caddy insisted that he change after nine holes because it was getting embarrassing, and I do mean em.bar.arsing. The winner of the front nine was Leon Smiler with 19 points and the back nine was Robert Green with a nice even round of 18 points front and back.  lovely day, great camaraderie, great course.

Robert,, Leon, Allen, Roger
