There were 16 members for todays stableford round in slightly overcast but pleasant conditions on a virtually empty course.  Two groups off front and back nines and no takers for the birdie hole #18.  Some good scores with Nigel Stubbs coming in third with 37 points,  very pretty to watch a good golfer in action, in second place, tiring 4 holes from home, was Don Bishop with 38 points but overall winner was Leon Smiler with 41 points even though he only managed to drive maybe a few fairways apparently his recovery shots to the green were spectacular.  Well done all and hope to see you again soon.

Inthanon – May Away Match, 23.05.18

This month’s away match we had (28) members and (2) guests teeing off at Inthanon for our May 2018 away match. After a hectic start trying to form the groups that was somewhat confusing based on the “Cart Sharing” we all still managed to tee off on the scheduled 9:00 am tee time. Typical for this time of the year we completed our round under sunny and extremely hot conditions but fortunately there was sporadic cloud cover which at times alleviated the hot conditions.

Relative to the course the fairway were all in excellent condition coupled with fast greens on most of the holes.  Today there was not much play at the course so most groups completed their respective rounds in less than (4) hours.

Relative to the winners we had some extremely good results:

  • 1st place with 40 points:          Gary Walker & Brian Hueston
  • 2nd place with 39 points:        John De Jong & Jack Cooper
  • 3rd place with 38 points:         Diane Mayo, Randy Teisl, & Bob Sheldrick

Today’s Happy Winners!

Special Notice:  CMSG & Chiang Rai Tournament

As reviewed during our post match luncheon we have scheduled a (2) day tournament with golfers from the Chiang Rai area.  The dates of the tournament are Wednesday May 30th @ Inthanon and Thursday May 31st at Royal Chiang Mai both with a 9:00 am scheduled tee off time.  As discussed,  this is  short notice due to another society from our area cancelling at the last minute as (10) golfers from Chiang Rai have completed their plans and reservations to golf in the Chiang Mai area.  At this juncture I have been contacted by the Chiang Rai group requesting the possibility of conducting  the above mentioned tournament. Presently,  we are looking for  ten (10) members from our society to complete in this tournament that is  scheduled for next week.  If interested please contact Milton Reynolds or myself to reserve a spot on the GMSG team.

Pricing and team composition to follow:

14 Golfers in today’s Stableford event, 12 Members, 1 prospective member Jon Green and one guest.  A big Thank You to Camilla and Yung for organizing in my absence.  No takers for the birdie hole #18, in fact, no birdies at all on the back nine and only five on the front nine.  The winner today was Camilla Dwyer with 37 points and in second place tied with 36 points were Leon Smiler and Milton Reynolds.  Whoops a bit of a mix up with handicaps not updated so Milton  2nd with 36 points and Leon 3rd with 35 points.  The course is in great condition with the greens running fast and true. Congratulations to all and see some of you on Wednesday at Inthanon.

Inthanon, 16.05.18

Thank you to those members who turned up at Inthanon for the first CMSG event. 9 members turned up and 7 played in the competition. Christian was the winner with 39 points and Brian Heuston was second with 37 points.

There was some confusion regarding starting time which is 8.30 am and not 9 am as some thought. We look forward to having an open day at Inthanon next week. A very hot day for golf and I think we all felt it.

Finally all sorted with caddies but many have different numbers so if you want to book your normal caddies you will have to check their new numbers.

It seems Nomads have actually changed their day at Inthanon to Tuesday, so there will be no overlap with CMSG and anyone who wants to play in either or both is free to do so.

Brian & Christian
