Match Report July 2018

North Hill, 30.07.18

There were 7 members in the Stableford event and Thank You to Milton & Denise for standing in for me today while I had my monthly round at Lanna to restock on balls and get the car washed, would rather not talk about my golf.  Anyway a busy day at NH with plenty of holiday makers but no problem for our group. The course is holding up fine a bit spongy on 1 and 12 but afraid more wet weather predicted for the week. We had one member  DNF.  The winner by far was Milton with 38 points and his nearest competitor was Leon Smiler with 30 points.  Well done all and good luck at Hariphunchai on Wednesday and see you all again on Friday back here at NH.

                                                                                 Milton Reynolds

Lanna, 30.07.18

20 members and 1 guest on a very wet Lanna course for today’s stableford. The scoring was not great with only one person in the buffer zone and one with a handicap cut. The birdie hole was taken by Jack Cooper on week 1! 2 retrospective players of the day today who left the restaurant without paying! You know who you are! Next week we return to our usual restaurant now that the refurbishment has taken place. There was a three way tie for second place on 31 points, Julian Wing, Lamyai Prasarm and Lawrence Nahlik. Way out in front with 41 points was Jay Jones, congratulations all. Next week it’s strokeplay on courses 3 and 1, handicap order. See you then.

There were 15 attending today which included one guest, Soren’s brother Steve, in a Stableford event under cloudy skies but with no rain.  The Course is finally showing signs of all the recent downpours though and is very wet under foot in places.  We had Lift, Clean & Place on the fairways and the birdie hole was the par 3 #17 which no one claimed although there were 7 birdies on the day.  The winner was Leon Smiler who came in with 36 points, second was Soren Nielson with 34 points and third was Frank Schwartz with 33 points.  Well done everyone.

Artitaya, 26.07.18   (July 2018 Away Match – Scramble)

A great turn-out as we had (36) members ( 9-teams) entering into this month’s away game.  Everyone arrived on schedule resulting in a orderly but delayed tee-off.  The delay was the result of having to wait for 3 groups of golfers making the turn from the 18 hole to the 1st hole.  Based on this the first nine holes of our competition was on the slow side but after our groups making the turn to the #10 hole we had the course to ourselves and the pace of play improved immensely!   Weather-wise it was a great day to be on the links as we played under cloudy conditions with no rain.   Most of our players stated they enjoyed the course and its conditions coupled with the most reasonable green fees.

Relative to the results we had some very impressive scores:

  • 1st place honors goes to the team of: Frank Schwarz, Tom Berger, Yung Beece & Ric Cameron posting a great score of gross 63 (Net 55.125).
  • 2nd place goes the the team of Jay Jones, Lamyai Prasarn, Kenny Jones & Serge Arnaud finishing with a gross score of 71 (Net 56.5).
  • 3rd place today goes to the team of Nigel Jones, Ian Carr, Ian Fraser & Ashley Kim Sing shooting a gross score of 72 (Net 60).  All pars and no bogies!

Congratulations to all of the above teams – extremely well played!

1st Place: Ric, Frank, Yung, & Tom

2nd Place: Kenny, Serge, Lamyai & Jay

3rd Place: Ashley, Ian, Nigel ( Mr Fraser absent)

We look forward to seeing all our members entering into next month’s August Away game – full details to be announced in the coming days!

Maejo, 25.07.18

Only (6) golfers teeing off today at Maejo under extremely wet conditions on a rain full day.  Another reason for this low turn-out could be attributed to the monthly away game scheduled tomorrow at Artitaya golf resort.

Today’s blistering results are attributed to the rainy conditions thru out the complete round!

  • 1st place – Rob Grootenhuijs                 27 points
  • Alex Stewart                                              26 points
  • Stuart Duncan                                          24 points

Hats off to all of today’s winners!

No photo today due to lack of interest!

Haripunchai, 25.07.18

Nigels first time at Haripunchai and he loved it, so if you have not played here it is a great test of golf on a very good course.

North Hill, 20.07.18

There were 20 members turn out for todays Stableford event even though the morning greeted us with dark threatening clouds, but as often happens in the wet season over here there was only a light sprinkle for the last couple of holes, the storms usually hit later in the day.  The course was very wet though from the previous nights downpour.  We did not play ‘lift clean and place’ today, we will always announce before the game if it is going to be ‘lift clean and place’.  The ‘birdie hole’ #4 only lasted one week again and was won by Christian Friis.  Todays overall winner was Nigel Stubbs with a great round of gross 78 nett 70 and 38 points and tied in second place were Yung Beece and Lawrence Nahlik with 36 points. Well done to all.

Groupings were messed up a little by a late arrival especially since it was our regular handicap order tee-off, so apologies to those affected, please give us a call if you are inadvertently delayed.  Also there was a no show who had booked a caddy which is very poor form.  Hot and overcast were the conditions.  The birdie hole #7 was taken out after only two weeks by Frank Schwarz.  The winner today was Russell Banks which was no surprise to us regulars, coming in with 43 points well done Russell.  In second place was Mike Roycroft with 39 points and in third place was Nigel Stubbs with 37 points.  Curtis and Yung celebrating birthdays Happy Birthday and Well done everyone.
