There were 11 Members in today’s Stableford competition. 10 in the comp and one going for final card for handicap, well done Staffan. The winner was Richard Baron with 38 points, runner-up was Garry Walker with 32 points.  Management from North Hill have advised me that there will be a North Hill Members Tournament very soon.  I have also been approached by the group playing on wednesday and Sunday at NH to organize an event  between CMSG and their group, not sure what they are called, more to follow..

This Friday as promulgated will be a STROKE event.  But with the New Golf Rules it is allowable for clubs to introduce in local rules, a Modified form of Stroke and this is what we will be playing on Friday.  That is, you are able to pick up after Double Par.  This Friday is the Eddie Miller Memorial Trophy event, last years winner was Yung Beece.

North Hill, 15.03.19

There were 59 scheduled players and 58 showed nice and early for our International Scramble and thank you all for that.  Where were you John?.  Drinks on arrival, courteousy of North Hill.  They did allow  us to go early but our groups were so keen that they we’re all at their tee boxes and so we couldn’t announce it, but NH staff went and informed all groups already at tee boxes that we would go 10 minutes early.  So away we went and all was looking good.  No hold ups that I am aware of and all cards in in good time but we had to wait for NH staff to go and retrieve the nearest the pin markers because our last group failed to do so (my fault for not informing them, I guess).  In the mean time food was served and it was more than we could eat and it was superb, thank you NH.  The overall winners were International Team 2, Lamyai Prasern, Tim Walker, Serge Arnaud & Richard Baron with a Gross 67 net 54.  In second place and winners of the International Trophy for 2019 were S.E. Asia, Mr Park, “Oil” Lachoe, Jay Jones  & You Byung Chai with gross 65 net 55.13 . In Third Place were Team NZ, Don Bishop, Leon Smiler, Mike Roycroft & Craig Morris with a gross 66 Net 56.  The nearest the pins were won by: Hole 2 – Chris Kendall, Hole 4 – Roger Mack, Hole 14 – David Ulwin Smith, Hole 17 – Mr. Park.  Longest drive near the line was won by Curtis Nickel at 268 yards. There was also an additional prize donated by NH of hats and umbrellas won by , dare I say it, the English team with shirts, hats and flags a flying in their home colors.  To the rest we have to say, pick up your game in future years and dress for the occasion.   I would like to thank North Hill for their prize donations and for their overall assistance in running the competition and for the excellent buffet provided by Mix and their staff.  The course, as usual, was in excellent condition.

Hariphunchai, 13.03.19

In a very hazy and humid Wednesday morning 8 golfers, 7 members and 1 guest, enjoyed a course in excellent condition that was more or less deserted apart from themselves. Both groups finished in just over 3 1/2 hours. Scores were very close but reflected the difficult pin positions at some holes. The winner was Mr Park with 35 points and he just pipped William Whitsett who scored 34

Best wishes to all teams for the International on Friday!

Mr Park and Bill

Maejo; 13.03.19

North Hill, 08.03.19

There were 25 golfers, 23 members and 2 guests, one of which was a prospective member. I might mention at this time that we have lost one of our original and senior members Phil Williams, a proud Welshman and a gentleman remembered by all who knew him, R.I.P Phil. Despite the good turnout no takers for the birdie hole #16. Some good scores on a busy course, we all had to go off the front as the club had a large group tournament coming in after us, still they looked after us very well. The winner was Leon Smiler who continues to improve with a gross 78 nett 66 and 42 points, well done to the kiwi (his first time under 80). In second place by one Stableford point, oh that missed put, was Tim Walker with 41 points. In third place was Denise Reynolds, recently recovered from a bout of Ghengie fever and showing some style coming in with 38 points. Gaining somewhat of a worthy mention and out of the prizes were Curtis Nickel and Don Bishop with 37 points. Welcome back to Haydn P who created quite a stir in after game celebrations both at the club at at the hut after. By the way there were no takers for the birdie hole, once again, now on hold until after the International tournament.
Speaking of which I must remind you all that tee-off time is 9am shotgun start. Please be there and have your team paid up and registered by no later than 8:30am as I will be closing it off at this time so that I can be ready and at my designated tee-off position for the shotgun start. North Hill have us going off holes 16,17, 18 and 1 – 6 so some of you will have to be transported out to your tee-off hole. Don’t be late! Have you booked your caddies? might be a good idea. The NH club are donating prizes for nearest the pin at Par 3’s and also a closest to the line drive. The buffet will be held in the usual place and you will pay for it on arrival with your green fees. You will be welcomed on arrival with a drink and after your round with cold towels. What a good club this is, really. Thank you Khun Sompak and Khun Oo.

Tim, Denise and Leon

There were 24 golfers today, 22 members and 2 guests in a Stableford Nassau event.  There were no takers for the birdie hole #16.  The winner was Leon Smiler with 36 points, the front nine winner was Mr.Park with 22 points and the back nine winner was Tim Walker with 18 points.  Looks like high season is on the decline with fewer on the course today and the club giving out 100 baht vouchers to be spent on the day at the drinks stops around the course.  Beautiful weather and an enjoyable day on a slightly overwatered course with fast greens.
